Find and support your local/country's heritage seed organization.

    It's simple:
Buy seeds from them that result in plants with fruit that tastes great and they can afford to stay in business.

Today's supermarkets dictate to farmers what they can grow, or they simply don't buy from them.

For example, your typical supermarket strawberries have a good shelf life, look great, and taste like flavored chalk. If you grow your own from heritage seed they taste great but couldn't get to the market in one piece because they aren't tolerant to todays distribution methods.

Get into back-yard gardening or hydroponics (yes you can grow legal stuff with it lol) and save the world a garden at a time.

A little space can go a long way towards reducing your food bills with better product and a makes for a great hobby. You don't need lots of testers and pumps for hydroponics with auto-pots makes for the perfect geek gardening solution in my opinion.

    Easy hydroponics: http://www.autopot.com.au/

Have a hunt around and support your local outfit.

  2. Go linux, go wiki on The Palm OS Ends With a Whimper · · Score: 2, Insightful

I'm a palm user of over 10 years as well and happily keep my phone and PDA separate for a variety of reasons.

The biggest problem I've had with it is the lack of a Linux Palm Desktop. I really miss it having moved to Ubuntu and while I'm getting by with Jpilot I have lost a lot of functionality (specific to my behavior) having switched. Not to much joy with wine (due to a lack of knowledge on my part no doubt) either.

I hope that if/when they finally (2nd/3rd time lucky?) go linux we'll see a desktop released for that OS, or at least enough published to enable Jpilot and others to jump on board better.

While they're at it, perhaps they'll realize that wiki-fying their base menu system (address/memo/to-do/calendar) apps will make for a simple and enormously useful improvement in functionality.

You need to be able to recover from something being deleted (intentionally or otherwise) and often the ability to roll-back in time to older iterations of a document is useful.

While not asked for by the original post, backing up this data is (hopefully) on his to-do list and is probably an entire post all by itself.

TSM handles all the underlying work, you just tell it to "move that data from LTO2 to LTO3 storage mediums please" and it chugs away in the background doing it.
