    black markers work on keyboards as well as cds

    This is sillier than the clear lighted keyboard i bought for my clear lighted computer. hehe, half the letter are above a post and don't get lit so alot of the same functionallity tho.

    our office:

    2 old IBM keyboards, dual purpose for self defense
    4 old WANG keyboards, virtually identical to ibm
    2 MS ergo kb
    several throw-away OEM for the peons.

    If only i could figure out how to mod the old keyboards from the Wang minicomputer terminals. I love the enter key where the arrows are now(pinky while typing, thumb from keypad, all alone with nothing to hit by mistake) not to mention they double as car ramps...

    I got distracted trying to figure out if a programming competition was nerdier than math or not ;)

    Too bad i'm old enough to have been out of school before programming anything was common :(

    On the other hand we did win one of the earliest regional math competitions.

    Aye, I didn't see much of anything about players of profit. It mentioned one's growth slowed to 4% per MONTH. The other companies were only mentioned as per stock prices dropping quite a bit. I don't know what 4 bil pounds (it was pounds,no?) comes to, but it sounds like alot and a correction doesnt seem unreasonable.

    Nowhere did i see they were losing money or even customers, only that new people weren't joining in droves as before. Not like some astronomical growth rate is gonna go on forever. Pretty sure the number of internet users doesn't grow at 50%/year so at the rates they had (over 50%/year apparently) aren't you gonna run out of internet users at some point even if we all played and kept playing?

    IF that happened and IF i found out it didnt get there (how i would prove that to Paypal is beyond me), does ANYONE think Paypal would actually be responsible for a penny?

    Everyone that gets scammed like that gets there money back from paypal?!? ROFL it took a month to get back a double payment* that had the same auction number on both entries for full amount, takes about 2 secs to 'investigate' and 3-1/2 weeks to press the key on the computer to refund :/

    * i think this is their little scam, ebay doesnt seem to update stuff when paid very well even when all done thru their systems. Wonder what they make in fees and interest from dups.

    True to some extent. But certainly not because of just WoW.

    This has been true for me for five years now. Since i started Asherons Call (and Motor City online when it existed) i bought 75% fewer games. Just this last year has my purchasing starting going back up somewhat.

    But there are still fewer subscription-based MMORPG gamers than not i would think thus limiting the effect a lot. Not to mention it not affecting some genres at all.

    Melting some ice into the ocean could in fact cool it.
    Nonetheless, if earth heats up overall, so will the water. The cooler water from ice could bring ocean back close as an average.

    Except that may leave colder water than normal in poles and warmer water than normal in middle. Bigger temperature variations are rarely a good thing :(

    How on earth is a using a menu system to find something at all original anymore?

    How about the patent for using a hierarchy of menus to find a program or program segment to run? Maybe i can get some of the outrageous license fees for our accounting system back!

    If it applies to mp3 (creative) and xxx (apples format slipped mind at moment) why not txt, com, and etc? In which case prior art would seem applicable.

    It is going on a CD?, couldn't find where it said what they do with the names. Why not add a memory card, a cassette tape and some keypunch cards and REALLY drive those aliens/earthlings nuts someday :)

    Hopefully the aliens have been watching enough TV to realize we like little shiny things for data now :)

    Figured it would be even more useless than it sounded. I'd rather they printed em out and used it for packing the satelite ;)

    Kinda like how the last couple orders of magnitude changed the way we interface...well except for the same mouse,keyboard and monitor. Maybe he is gonna make the pins on the mouse in a square instead of a row or a circle :)

    and Voice doesn't work much better on my 3000 MHz machine than it did on my 100 MHz box (which came with voice activation as the next great freature, hehe), not gonna hold my breath here.

    It could start by flagging the one i got the other day: filename.jpg (25 blanks) .pif

    Hehe, slashdot won't display that with 25 blanks between extensions why does outlook need to ?!?

    It did a nice job of pushing the real extension off the edge of the window. Nasty little trick that shouldn't work :(

    I imagine the time and place has a big effect.

    I simply don't do theaters. Twice in a bazillion years, althouhg both were awesome for diferent reasons.

    Just last month went to see a cinecast at the mall megacomplex. 5-1/2 hours and not one phone or anything. But being as it was $18 a ticket and a niche target noone dared cause trouble :) Don't quite get why the cinecast ticket is same price as live show but the 3000 miles between it and me were a problem. Quality was ok, nothing spectacular though and my vintage stereo system could match sound quality. Was cool with people treating as in person and clapping and stuff.

    The only other experiance was ages ago after a snowstorm, roomie and i walked up to the local 2nd run theater and the movie was held over cause new one stuck in transit. No trouble there either...there were no other patrons! Grand total of 6 people in theater :)

    Maybe wait til last show to go :)

    Movies have never been that important for the hassle and $$. Of course i spend $70/month on online games, kinda like a movie i can manipulate :)

    yikes, i couldn't read it at all some columns are pushed off the LEFT side of screen after the 1st one !?!?

    I hope innovative movies and games work better than innovative web design.

    If the web designer can't spend more than 60 sec making his page work i am NOT spending more than 60 sec trying to figure it out.

    Slashdot finally links to a story with more than one paragraph and you cant read past the 1st paragraph.....

    All of my cassettes are merely copies i borrowed from a friend and time-shifted a couple decades :)

    Actually i am glad i own practically all the music i'll ever need already. 100+ 8-tracks, 100+ cassttes, 200+ albums, 100 CDs (yes, the home stereo is kinda large), 27 itunes tracks :)

    No new music from the evil empire in years and years :)

    One thing i want to know is:
    Who is gonna replace my old media?
    My 8-tracks are wearing out and i have no desire to pay for them again. Even if i did they won't sell me a new one. One of these days i will HAVE TO download the best quality i can find and rerecord my own if i can find em :/

    No one said when i bought them that the license was for X number of years or X number of times no matter how careful i am!

    So far only downloaded free stuff, but one of these days i'll get around to downloading MY old music thats bad. RIAA doesn't like it they can swap tapes with me ;)

    Anyone seen anything that will unrip to a Quad without synthesizing it? laugh --> cry

    Don't know about this case but i modded one with a reverse board and haven't seen any problems with heat simply due to turning it upside down. A video card with a fan seems enough to push the air around and avoid a stagnent spot.

    ( 1 clear case on each side of table, i reversed one during building for symetry and to see all the pretty lights from my seat :) )

    All the vents do seem like it might be prone too pulling in air before it cools much tho.

    Would be nice for my car simulator especially with casters builtin but too pricey. I didnt pay that much for my plexiglass when they were only sold by one company!

    Someone with a grudge could rack up a zillion support cases in days :(

    Then a few days later thousands of competing players get crippled.

    At least it sounds like YOU actually have to do it now instead of someone else and the cripple all the others. Still sounds like trouble.

    Other than the fact its BNSF so they are wrong :) hehe minor prejudice, their new state of the art refueling facility with an infintesimal chance of leaking leaked twice in 1st year, real trustworthy group there folks :(

    I see real problems with worker comp, especially carpal tunnel. Was it caused by typing all day or playing video games all night. Perhaps you spend 6 hours each night putting stamps into a book or it was the awkward latch on the cabinet you use all day. Maybe you where so predisposed it wouldn't have mattered or maybe you wouldn't have gotten it if you hadn't done all of the above. So whose fault is it and who pays?

    Just a thought, no good answers :(

    Remembering that this was about pre-college kids. They already conceded the college-age ones.

    What i haven't seen is the issue of actually carrying it around.

    Haven't many schools discontined issuing lockers?
    Would your kid really want to lug this around along with the 25lb of textbooks ?!? How do physically carry it if your backpack is full? Carrying it seperately won't cause an issue with the kid banging it into things?

    All that, plus the obvious issues of theft and oversight of use, seems a questionable idea to me. Get them a desktop. Put it next to yours if trust is an issue.

    If they completely replaced books with computers, great. But that's not what is addressed here. I am guessing the textbook companies would charge you full price for an ebook and DRM it to death anyways.

    Linux sites probably have less security minded ppl than someone that paid big $$ for thier system.

    Could be true, not that it means anything. They probably hacked some poor linux server with 100 sites that nobody has been to. That could generate said statistic since i hear so little about 'manual hacker attack' lately, hehe.
    Those without security know-how are a greater security risk, duh.

    hehe, i'd be the last one to ask why old sells but it does. /e hides the $200 8-track deck and the 20MB HD he just bought :) /e quickly shoves the DVDs back into the netflix envelopes before anyone notices they where older than they are themselves.
