Well the NFL is far from a broken business. One of the reasons that cities pay so much to help build stadiums is because the stadium brings so many people to the area it creates a somewhat massive economic boom in the area, which over time can be worth more money than the cost to build the stadium.
As a University of Southern California student, I am pretty outraged that I am forced to pay for a service that I don't support. I think if they offered it as an option to the student for the reduced rate, that is fine, but the fact that I am giving napster and the RIAA between 50 and 200 dollars of my own money is a travesty.
The last two paragraphs are a great example of putting in a worthless interview that has nothing to do with an article, solely to defend an undefendable topic.
If best buy is sick of people using rebates, then stop offering them. Rebates work by the majority of people not using them, while thinking they are buying it at a great price. If people are going to use rebates without actually buying the item, Best Buy is going to have to live with that. If they think they can get it both ways, they are wrong. It is just another example of horrible customer service and deception backfiring, and then the company having such a great monopoly that they can somehow blame it on the customers, the very people they rely on to make money. Just absurd.
Well this should be interesting. I am a resident of fairfax county, and on election day I will keep my laptop in the front seat and packet sniff for the time I am inside voting.
Then we can see how secure this voting stuff really is.
Well sports players salaries come from people who willingly decide to attend a sporting event.
In this case, the lawyer set his own price which microsoft is paying for, which is apparently unwillingly going to be charged to the people. Although not his fault, this isn't an excuse to blame athletes.
Well you have to remember that it is a lot easier to create an uncontrolled release of energy (bomb), than a controlled release (power plant, battery, etc).
So while a bomb is the natural first step (or proof of concept if you will), the power plants and other uses will definetly come afterwards.
I am as anti-RIAA as the next guy, but this doesn't seem all that bad.
The RIAA is going out of there way to correct a royalty problem that may/may not have entirely been their fault. And the article makes it seem that it was the idea of an RIAA lawyer.
The article is really more for shock value than anything else. This has gone on for a long time, but when you see something like this "Man sues red cross for trying to accept donations" it jumps out at you. I don't think the fact that it is a charity matters, The main issue is how stupid it makes the patent system out to be.
However, my grandfather used to work at the patent office, and still is a practicing patent attorney (at age 90), and will defend to the death the needs of patents. He is incredibly conservative and an old engineer who was in the army during WW2 and then went to a steady job at GE. The main issue is that people like him are controlling the importance of patents, and from prior experience debating with him, he has no understanding of the new type of intellectual property and the new needs of the patent system. Sadly, since people like him are the ones making the decisions, I doubt the patent system will change in the near future.
When I used linux, I used gentoo. If I had a choice now, I would probably use debian, but the "emerge" command and portage tree in gentoo was just awesome and really made linux a lot easier, which for me was nice because I was using linux soley as a development environment.
Searching for Bobby Fischer.... on the internet?
This is basically a 5% discount on all iTunes music?
Lets nuke it and sell the video on PPV.
That e-voting isn't the only topic which hackers and the general public disagree.

Disgusting.

I hope they use a little more discression in hiring the operator than the springfield monorail.
Actually the ACC is a sports conference known for its great basketball (with teams Duke, UNC, Maryland, Ga Tech and Wake forest).
AAC is an audio codec.

Wait, I thought west springfield was 3 times the size of texas?
Do you check up with the news at all? Google has already announced their IPO. Funding isn't going to be an issue with google for a while...

For some reason I don't think it is a coincidence that intel basically stole BMWs numbering scheme...

Just my 2 cents...
that certified actually doesn't mean certified completely. I'm sure this will instill a lot of confidence in non-linux users going to linux.
MyLastEmail offers a service somewhat similar to this.
I always thought this process was over some sort of fiber, I had no idea it was through the air.

I'm not sure if I like the idea that anything between me and these 4 walls is now between me and some sort of ubiquitous building-computer.
Robots in space? What's next, a computer that can beat a human in chess?
The one thing tivo does have is the best remote control of any DVR. It is just beautifully engineered.
I wonder what color the laser is...
I hear the green ones burn out your eyes.
