When reading the reviews, I just can't resist saying this:
Star Wreck is a fan movie. It's basically zero-budget. There is simply no other fan movie coming even close to it. I think it is quite interesting to notice that unlike on most fan films, people always start (intentionally or intentionally) comparing SW to real movies like Hollywood stuff. That never happens on discussions about fan films.
Somebody below this even said 'this shows that Hollywood still rules' and 'at least George Lucas can direct professional actors'. Yeah, and does he do that in his bedroom?:D
Hollywood never produces anything like this, because a term Hollywood movie means at least some $$$ put into it by default. Even the worst of the worst have some budget. The reviews which compare SW to Hollywood stuff are a massive victory to the makers of this movie.
They just show that the flick is so neat for a fan flick that people can't treat it as such anymore:D
Well, the guy might know his stuff but I hate it when every other MP3 review is done by somebody who starts by saying 'I love iPod very much and this..' Then, after this they always remember to do at least the following comparisons in the main article:
iPod's design "is so sleek" vs. the poor device on review "doesn't come even close to iPod design"
iPod's interface "is so sleek" vs. the poor device on review "which has some interface problems when compared to iPod"
.. and just go on with the list. Oh gee, so now we know that you love iPod and seem to be therefore totally uneligible to write reviews for other MP3 players.
I have an IRiver myself and I like it's metallic design. Still, I read every now and then reviews like 'the design is nothing like iPod's' - and always from people who should bring in a neutral point of view. Give me a break on this!
You don't have to try to simply find a better device than iPod, but nice alternatives for people who want and need different things from their player.
Excuse ME, but as an active Slashdot reader I must point out that even planning to use such a baby 'monitor' as you offensively call it is against his/her privacy.
I demand a new topic to be immediately made under 'Your rights online' section so we can discuss it through and blame Bill Gates for it.
English language is full of stupid hacks, and this inherits from the Shakespearean times, where the 'correct' language was not emphasized as long as the text was understandable by most people - unlike most other western languages like French.
This can be well seen in these days as well - English speakers tolerate different accents and imperfect language extremely well, unlike French or Germans.
The best gadget I've ever bought - the iRiver 20gb/40gb MP3 player. It's small (considerably smaller than any HD's), sleek, has a nice battery and works as an USB hard drive. And if you happen to have MP3's or WAV's on it, you can just press a button and listen to them anytime:)

4. The harder the signature is to read, the EASIER it is to forge. My own signature is perfect Victorian calligraphy done with a chisel-point felt-tip or fountain pen. Let them copy THAT!
Wouldn't like to be behind you in a cashier line..
You shouldn't be free to oppress millions of people. Freedom to do as you wish but not hurting others in the process to a point they lose their freedoms.
Yeah, and your beloved president is doing exactly the aforementioned thing. I just wish that these 'limitations of freedom' would apply to USA as well - not just 'everybody else'.
I mean honestly, ALSA is usually nothing but flawless with any decent soundcard. Even the $15 SBLive works great.
Exactly, but let's go a bit further. Even the $15 card works fine - but $500 card doesn't. That's the main problem. There is a need to support the pro cards (with all features) until you can go pro with Linux audio.
I can definitely get my SBLive working with ALSA, but that's unfortunately not the card I produce with:P
.. are those flicks where somebody put up a camera to follow the building of a house, and then speeded the result it up by 200x or similar. That really cool to see a house 'grow':)
If anyone remembers urls to these flicks, post 'em in, I can't remember anymore..
Well, control is everywhere. You should see it by now.
In other countries the control and censorship is done by direct action and by preventing people to access the information that might be potentially harmful. I think that this is an culture issue, it's just without any extra twists out there. They just ban it, so they don't have to really manipulate or regulate it.
And other countries have governments that allow people to access all the information, but instead put their efforts on manipulating the media indirectly to counter/soften the effects of unpleasant information or to draw attention from real problems to other things. This includes everything from feeding falsified information to advertisement-like careful timing, repeating, double meanings and so on.
Same shit, different implementation. Close your TV and your Internet, there's nothing to see here.
A device which you can use to call + receive phone calls, play games (emulator as well, from gameboy to C64 and MAME), use calendar, browse net, email, listen to radio, mp3 and do pretty much anything else by installing loads of nice s60 software. F.ex. Teletext application is my big favourite.
Is even $200 (if it's even that much) really expensive for all that? For me, it is definitely not. I'm unaffiliated with Nokia; I just like this particular device because it's very useful and cheap phone which allows me to do everything I wish and lots more.
Thought, one shot cybercafe hour million miles away from home is a different thing. I'd pay 5 pounds for it just to get my email. But it's a bit of different to being able to do some work on a domestic train trip to visit a friend. 5 pounds is lot of cash for it.
I also thank you for the mini lecture to economics. But GPRS has been around for a good while and _nothing_ has happened to the prices at all. And EDGE is already coming - we're starting to move towards new technology. But the old model's price (GPRS) ain't dropping. That doesn't make sense at all.
Rapidly increasing network access on-the-go is a really cool thing. I was excited and waiting for it when it was first announced.
Now I've already got over my disappointment - f.ex. GPRS service is charged based on traffic here, and it's damn expensive. 100 megabytes and if you exceed that, it's 2 euros/megabyte.
So, what's 100 mb/month good for? Definitely not for using graphical WWW on Opera's mobile version. Well, I then check my emails with GPRS. Same thing I could do with GSM data previously, phh..
Dunno, people all around seems to be generally richer than me because they are eagerly waiting for this new EDGE thing to come and increase transfer speeds to 200k or so.
I'm not waiting for it eagerly - correct me if I'm wrong - at least in Europe, it's most likely going to feature similar stupid pricing which renders it useless to most non-corporate users.
I'll join the hype about wireless access on-the-go at the very day when I can afford to use it effectively.
On the other hand - who wants a surgeon who steadily cuts off your hemorroids and suddenly starts shouting 'L00000L00L0000LZZZ I jUST fRAGG3D j0000R A55 AHAHAHAHAHA'
.. Or a surgeon who is more interested in the frame rate performance of his X-Ray machine than your actual medical condition
.. Or a surgeon who refuses to treat your brain tumor because his scalpels are not the 'newest model'
.. Or a surgeon who while performing an eye surgery makes strange remarks about 'anti-aliasing' and 'anisotropic filtering'
.. Or a surgeon who deems every patient who recovers faster than expected as 'L0L XIIT' and demands that the hospital must ban them immediately
.. Or a surgeon who constantly tries to beat his '6 days of continuous operations without sleeping' record - together with his friends
.. Or a surgeon who all the time 'accidentally' injects his patients with caffeine instead of anesthetic

.. is Adware to be made totally illegal as to design, manufacture and spread it. Like viruses are.
What effect will this have on DNS hijacking and similar hacking methods which utilize DNS? Will it be easier as things get more 'rapid'?

Ok, ok, it's the manufacturers..

When will we reach the point where the open source OS's start to crash as often as the Windows itself?

Why?
Victims' of Chernobyl suffering is a real fucking thing, I've seen it. This thread makes me sick.
