How is this post modded to 0?? What the poster says is true!!!
If you attempt to foolishly update your list or, god help you, apply a filter - blammo. No more servers on your list and no way to get them back aside from restarting the game.
Don't get me wrong, I love BF2, but that is totally inexcusable at this point. It's a little shocking that an online-only game was released with a shitty server menu. It's beyond my comprehension that it was never fixed in any patch or in the expansion pack.
The home computer will never need more than 600 blah blah blah...
This is what happened last time. Flashy consoles had the advantage for approx a week, then the next generation of graphics cards came out for PC's and it was over, johnny.
Look, I'm a Nintendo fanboy, so I don't care either way. Hell, I'll probably buy a 360 next year after a price-drop (I never owned a regular xbox). Don't fool yourself. Its a closed box. It is what it is today and forever. PC gaming is progressing as you read this. It's a safe bet that the most recent consoles will look dated in a few months by a high-end gaming PC.
And yes, PC's cost more. Yes, you can't play on your couch. Even still, they're better.
I half-agree with you. Some yahoo's selling pirated games to the 12 people that shop in thier mom & pop gamestore do not deserve jailtime.
Some Enron exec who defauds gobs of money and causes people to lose their retirement accounts...well, they should go to poundmeintheass prison.
Both crimes are non-violent...yet one is clearly worse than the other.
Finally, to ensure I'm modded offtopic, it goes without saying that non-violent drug offenses (read: marijuana arrests) should never go to jail.

"Every single person who came of age in the 90s and spent $500 or more on a 32+ inch TV is *not* going to rush out and replace it with an HDTV until absoltely necessary. Why? Theres a multitude of reasons. First of all, they're 40-some years old now with kids to feed, and don't have thousands of dollars of disposable income to drop on a luxury item. Second, they dont give a shit, to them their current TV is just fine."
Is every single person? no, of course not. But I did. And I'm 28, not 40-something. I have yet to meet someone who has seen my hdtv, or any hdtv, and said - "bah, what a gimmick, you can hardly tell the difference! Who would want that!"
Americans are the greatest consumers in the world - we all want the latest fancy gizmo and gadget. When you can get a reasonably sized HD for about $1000, forget it man - Walmart, Best Buy, Circuit City - they won't be able to keep them in stock!
While I have no idea what the actual percentage of people who own an HDTV in the US is...I can say that half of my friends (and me!) own an HDTV. My perception is that almost everyone has one.
I can't wait to see the Revolution on my HDTV either. XB360 will wait until version 3.a and a price drop or two...
I was thinking the same thing this morning - why are new console games $60 bucks, while PC games are still $50 and tend to drop like a stone a few months to a year after release.
It would seem that the "high def texture" argument is a sort of red herring...
Water / coffee can only be so hot. It's irrelevant if Burger King sells it at temp A and McD's sells it at temp A+40. OP is right - it can't be hotter than boiling water!!!
One should assume that coffee is hot enough to harm you if you spill it all over yourself.
I've got a 50" Samsung DLP....and no surround sound.
I'm neither an audiophile or a videophile. I'm just a member of the great unwashed that thinks HD looks a hell of a lot better than a regular television.
Dare I say it, the tv puts out some good sound! However, I am planning on getting a nice 5.1 - hrm, maybe 7.1 system - early in 2006. I'm sure when it's installed, the crossover fades or whatever else wont be accurate...but i won't notice that. I'll just notice the twig snapping in the rear left of my room during Friday the 13th. And I'll be happy.
Any suggestions for mid-range components would be appreciated. I hear that Denon is pretty decent...
As an athiest, I'm fascinated by those who belive in any one of the more popular gods today. It is a complete mystery to me how someone (who is otherwise intelligent) walks around believing in (what I equate to) fairytales.
I was raised catholic - catholic school, church every week - hell, I was an alterboy!
When you embrace a world without god, sin, and a fear of hell, it is quite liberating. I don't believe there is a meaning to life other than to experience things and share in that experience with others. Sometimes that experience is virtual.
Playing video games isn't good or bad, it's just something to do. Saying that someone would be better off spending the time on a "hobby" is assuming that the hobby is somehow better than a game.
This is 2005. Most folks have a lot of freakin time on thier hands! I don't need to farm or hunt for my next meal. I go to work for 8 or 9 hours, come home, and blammo - free time for 5 or 6 hours!!!

When I was in college, we picked up the Wisdom Tree game "Exodus" at a used game store.
With a save feature, it would have been a classic. Unfortunately, it was a 99 level game that might have taken 20+ hours to beat. We never did finish it. Though many purple haze filled nights were occupied by Noah whooping ass on the heathens and solving puzzles.
That's because Ticketmaster is owned by Clear Channel - who also owns the concert venues. Therfore, the venue cannot sell tickets on thier own.
I believe the Greatful Dead and Phish sold tickets without Ticketmaster (or at least some of the tix). But it only works when your concert is at some wierd place not normally used for shows.
I have never seen a concert/performance ticket that was refundable.
This happened to me a few years ago for the "Field Day" concert in Long Island...they never got approval from the town to actually hold the event. I got my money back for the tickets, but not the charges for the (mandatory) FedEx shipping.
I suppose that I both agree and disagree with you on a few things. As far as reducing materialism, that can only be a good thing for you and probably the world as a whole.
On the flipside, I've never had more money than I do right now. To drop $100 or $200 per person is not really a big deal (Note: I have a small family). I would rather buy something "nice" for someone, than $20 of junk.
Finally, we will never not have a Christmas rush - it's in our nature and it's how we were raised. As I get older, I realize that holiday's are for family gatherings - but as a child, Christmas is a time for getting gifts. Why? Because the parents of the parents buying for thier kids did the same thing. In 20+ years, those kids will repeat the past. Also, and this is more speculation, because giving a lot of gifts is a way a parent can express love in the age of text messaging and 60 hour work-weeks.
I'm about 45 minutes into that game. The first few levels remind me of Kingpin (of all things) with HL2 physics. The AI is good, and that cool to see, but it hasn't blown me away yet.
Not being a "coder", I would assume that coding is more like baking. When baking, it's critical to follow strict rules and measurements if you want your biscuit to not look like a pie crust.
In cooking - as in, applying heat to some other foodstuff, the rules are a bit lax. You can cook chicken a million different ways and never use a cookbook.
I suppose the analogy works if you were speaking in terms of understanding your cooking tools, foods, spices and how they can all interact.
I've had a yahoo account for...easily 8 years. Maybe longer.
I still use it. Sure, I get (literally) 1000's of spam in my junk mail folder per week, but barely any makes it through to my actual inbox.
I can't imagine a scenario that would force someone into having to switch thier email address because of spam. (Note that I'm talking about normal spam/email, not some wierd personal attack).
"Hey Butthead, why is he famous" "Because he's on TV, dumbass" "How'd he get to be on TV?" "Because he's famous - now shut up!" "Ooohhhh yeah"
Microsoft makes a product that just about everyone that touches a computer can use. No, not every aspect of the OS/Office, but they can move files around and create documents and spreadsheets.
If I own a business, do I a) invest in a system that no one knows how to use or b) go with the standard, since I don't have to train people?
And until there is another company with a 50% marketshare, that's the way it will be.

If that's true, then it's a shame. His creations have entertained millions of people - he should be filthy, stinking rich.
I played it waaaaaaaay back in 99/00 when it first came out. My roommate picked it up and we used his projector to have it on the wall.
zzzzzzzzzzzzz.....
what a borefest. I do not understand how/why this is fun to so many people...but hey, whatever floats there boat.
it really struck a nerve. I wept for days thinking of the loss the family must have experienced due to my actions.
Meh, games better than movies - maybe...if your talking about the latest summer blockbuster schlock. Books, no way.
