India launches the first space-based "You found it, we down it" service. Dignitaries laud it as the best way to bring home employees who overstay their space vacations in the future. Now there's no excuse for not being at that 9AM meeting after missing your shuttle flight back to Canaveral.

They have a wealth of knowledge with warp cores, power requirements and railguns. I forsee great things for all... just don't use Minnie BPOs.
In one breath, they're worried about the gigantic evil of uncertified applications (which is no different than any other OS launch) and in the next, Vista is "the most compatible operating system they've ever had."
So which is it? Stable or unstable? Lead or nitroglycerine?
...had more than 3 people actually taken part in the contest!
That's like having a wet t-shirt contest on a Monday night at your and having the winners be the ugly waitress that works weekdays, the cook (at 55) and a late delivery by the homely Purolator lady.
This is ridiculous. They were climbing a tree. They weren't dealing in dime bags or Colombia's finest. Hell, they left the China White out too. They were being kids, and now they're going to behave less like kids and more like paranoid basket cases. I'm not much for gratuitous lawsuits, but if anyone ever deserved a large chunk of change it's these kids.
Also, to fault the "paper", there are no pictures of the allegedly damaged tree. What we do know is that three kids were locked up for committing damage that they themselves are highly unlikely to be capable of performing. Perhaps it was a larger group of older "kids" who laid siege to the tree?
At any rate, I'll remember this episode of "kneejerk policing" in mind if we ever travel to the UK and I feel the need to lean on a tree to scratch an itch.
Intel says this entire performance increase goes away if you use AMD processors.
Why performance goes away when you use a chip that doesn't need its own mini-nuke for a VRM is beyond me.
Webhosting facilities report a massive upswing in server rentals!
Apparently the latest server benchmark is who can install the Chinese-Standard language packs first for MyPHPBB!
...considering I met my fiancee in an IT college program.
I say more girls should get into IT, and more IT guys will thank them for entering the dating pool.
Yes, IT-Land, there really IS a Santa Claus

Excellent. Just plain excellent.
So, who's going P4 hunting? I'm bringing my Winchester... are you?:D
The [H] benchmarks show very little really separates the Nvidia from the ATi cards, maybe 5 FPS per card range per card. Whoop-dee do. And that's being generous to Nvidia.
If you have a Radeon 9500 Pro or higher, you're laughing.
If you have a 9800 Pro @ 420/370 like I do, enjoy the eye candy.
If you have a X800-series, give me some of your money.
Heck, my fiancee will have my old Radeon 8500 128MB, and medium settings are within her reach.
What's not to love?
What a fuckin crock. I hope they get heart attacks from the cash overload. They're the worst kind of IT guys, the guys that USED to be good, and now they're fat and lazy off everyone else's cash. Fuck em, losers.
I'm head sys. admin for a large mining company based out of Northern Ontario, Canada.
I don't carry a pager, I don't have/use/want a cellphone, and my IMs are my own. The company knows they can phone me for emergencies, same for the security company and heating company (high heat alarms).
There was scuttlebutt last winter about giving us pagers, but when we started muttering about 50% raises for the inconvenience... it was dropped post-haste:D
They pay our broadband once every few months in acknowledgement that we VPN if needed / if we feel like it to check on things after-hours, and that we're available if needed from home. It's a fair trade-off. They also don't make us work without pay after-hours / extended hours. If we work past 4:30 or on weekends, we bill and get extra. It's that simple.
I did the drink into a laptop, but it was done by a friend, not me. he tried to plug into our switch that was on a carrel shelf, next to a nice big Pepsi. He knocked the Pepsi for a half-gainer, right into the laptop. Killed everything, data and all.
Half an hour later I cracked and punched through a reinforced-with-wire glass window. It was that or him, and a good thing it wasn't: the doctor said if I had hit him as hard as I hit the wire, it would have killed him.
If you're still running IE, you're still running around with your pants around your ankles.
Firefox - it's all you need. And Thunderbird kicks OE and Outlook in the teeth.
People have been fooling fingerprint and ocular scanners for years. It's going to take the next quantum-leap in sensing technology to render artifical fingerprints less effective.
Actually, I'm a Sys. Admin. for a large, internationally-focused mining contractor based out of Northern Ontario.
Get used to the Friday beer club idea. Best relaxation technique EVER.
Enjoy floor hockey with your co-workers at lunch 3 days a week.
Enjoy the opportunity to train whenever possible.
Enjoy the cleaner air, no matter WHERE you are (except for the cesspool that is Toronto)
Drink Molson Canadian. It's what to drink while chasing beaver.
Appreciate the fact you can drive 20 minutes to a decent campsite, and 40 minutes to the middle of nowhere.
Gang violence is limited by and large to the major metropolitan areas, so your car will actually outlive you. Or is it the other way around?
Enjoy getting paid what you're worth, and enjoy working for people that appreciate you.
Someone with half a brain in charge of development at Intel has stepped forward. Their mobile processors are all that's saving them for the non-enterprise arena.
But oh no, they'll need to abandon the GHz race! Whatever will the fanboys do!?!?
I'm surprised that most feel they're well-paid, or is that their management answering that portion of the survey for them?
I'm rather happy where I am, but the pay could be better!

Just take out their anti-satellite satellites with the US Navy's new uber railgun?

I bet they can't even use Tech 2 hardware. Low SP rookies.

But what about my T-80s and Javelins? If I'm stuck learning a new damn environment, who will satchel-charge the incoming Strykers for me?

Why is this damn gamn worse than crack, liquid crack, and liquid crack with powdered crack inside of it put together?

Now the macaques will want bus passes, the right to vote, and their own churches!

Your bank loan is ready. This is beyond pointless. At least it was affordable with the Voodoo2s.

That you depend on Hotmail to see you through the day, trash your comp and go get an Etch-A-Sketch.
