  4. Nice but lacking disk space on Linux On Windows 10: Running Ubuntu VMs Just Got a Lot Easier, Says Microsoft (zdnet.com) · · Score: 0

This works great but the Quick Create image has only ~10 GB disk space and nothing I tried was able to successfully resize the partition. I started installing my dev tools (IntelliJ, Google Cloud SDK, etc..) and I started getting low disk space warnings before I could install the final couple of applications. You can get the same result with the same enhancements if you do your own installation of Ubuntu 18.04 under Hyper-V with your own disk space requirements by following the instructions at https://blogs.technet.microsof.... Just use the ubuntu/18.04 folder instead of the 16.04 for running the install.sh script. The display performance is not as good as VMWare Workstation and there is no sound but I found Hyper-V more stable with Ubuntu than VMWare Workstation or VirtualBox. Both of which would occasionally freeze on my workstation running Linux distributions.

  6. Could be come my travel development machine on You Can Now Run Linux Apps On Chrome OS (venturebeat.com) · · Score: 0

I have a Pixelbook and installed the dev channel last night. I was able to get JetBrains IntelliJ up and running as well as Visual Studio Code without much effort. Installing Visual Studio code via the .deb added the application icon to the ChromeOS launcher but since IntelliJ does not have .deb file package I could not figure out how to add it to the launcher so I need to launch it from the command line. IntelliJ runs smoothly but I have not loaded one of my larger projects yet to really put it through the paces. There are a bunch of things that are broken right know which is expected but when they iron out those issues this could become a great development machine for travel especially when hooked up to my Packed Pixels external portable monitor.

I have reported many errors that I have found on Google Maps to the team using the tiny "Send Feedback" link in the lower right corner and they have always sent me a response when the issue has been resolved. It takes a month or two but they are listening and fixing. I regularly contribute to OpenStreeMap as well. I use many different map sources/software/apps and pick the appropriate one for my situtation.

I just installed it on my linode server and it works great with the 400+ feeds that I exported from Google Reader. I also installed the Android app since I read most of my news during my commute and so far it seems pretty solid. It could use automatic downloading for offline reading and some other little things but otherwise very usable especially since it syncs my read articles with the server. It's all open source so maybe I will give a shot at adding some functionality myself.

  25. E-Z Pass on California's Wireless Road Tolls Easily Hackable · · Score: 0

I don't know about cloning an E-Z Pass but if you use the E-Z Pass tag on a car that it is not registered to you, you get a ticket from them with the offending license plate number. At least this is the case in the NY Metro area. My wife got a ticket when I used her pass while waiting for a replacement for my non-functioning pass. I have had several friends who used to swap the passes between cars start to get tickets for the same reason. Are they scanning all of the license plates and matching them with the E-Z Pass tag or only some? This would seem to make cloning less effective unless you were maybe driving a stolen car/swapped plates since they would know the plate number of the cloned tag.
