  2. Linux Port? on Yahoo! Buys Musicmatch · · Score: 3, Interesting
I used to subscribe to Musicmatch Platinum. I thought it was an incredible service! I especially liked the artist match and on demand services. I have a varied (some say warped) taste in music. Musicmatch did an incredible job of using my existing mp3 collection to target online music to my tastes.

During the two years I was a subscriber, my only complaint was that there was no Linux option. I filled out surveys and finally even complained to customer support. The response I recieved from customer support was that codec licensing agreements prevented them from releasing a Linux port.

Even so I continued to subscribe until I switched to my current job where they do not allow me to listen to online music at work (the main place I use windows as an OS.)

If Yahoo is able to bring out a Linux port of the online service, I will immediately become a subscriber again.

That has a lot to do with knowing enough to know how bad you are. For example I play chess. I am not a great player, but I am high school chess club level. For years people would ask "Are you any good at chess?" and I would reply "Not Really." After years of beating these people I now say "Yes, I know how to play chess well." I still know that I am not a very good chess player, but now I also know that most people cannot play chess. All they really know is how to move the pieces, but not how to play the game.

Yeah my Dads Underwood had this ability. This is the same typewriter he kept when they were replaced in his office working for the Army in 1963. It was replaced by an IBM selectric which also had this ability and was fist produced in 1961. Might want to look at the history of typwriters to get a better idea of what was available when.

I have long been a proponent of corporate sponsorship of MMORPG's. Instead of charging us for the software and then charging us again to play, both should be free. The trade off would be that you potion of health becomes a Mountain Dew and your potion of strength is a Red Bull. It gets even better with Remmington and Colt supplying weapons.

What a great way to build brand loyalty as in "The best armor is made by Tommy Hilfiger!" or "My Chevy is much faster than you Toyota!"

I think the difference here is one of volume. While the largest number of servers are located outside the US, this article is saying that US servers still provide the bulk of the actual emails sent. Think of it this way:
1,000 non-US servers sending 3 emails a day VS. 3 US servers sending 3,000 emails each a day.

This is always the problem with statistics, they can be made to prove a point depending on how and which number you actually report. There is still one othe number left out of the calculations - To how many recipients are each of the emails sent?

That is what I found interesting. If you look, an entry level system in any of the adds that listed one could be had for about $400 US. At that same time, the bleeding edge of technology would cost you over $3000 US. I thought it interesting that the author did not recognize this fallacy in his logic. He even commented that software prices had remained stable. What he did not acknowledge was that a 15 year old game does not have the complexity or richness of game play that new titles possess. Sim City 2000 is no comparison to Meet The Sims, just like an AMD 486-DX4/100 processor is no match for an AMD 64.

Yeah that was and is what is great about NWN. It gives us all the freedom to create our own little piece of the universe. One of the biggest failures on the part of the community, IMHO, was the failure to take advantage of the server portal features. Theoretically it is possible for a player to take a character from one world to the next without ever retuning to the GameSpy interface. Unfortunately early efforts at creating a clearinghouse for server portals was impeeded by the lack of external data access in the server engine.
