Maufactuers change names to match whatever their competitor's name is all the time. AMD with their representative numbers:(2100xp for 1.7ghz which is supposed to be 'better' than the P4 2.0ghz. NVidia switching from geforce3,4 to geforce 5000 then 6000 to compete with ATI's cards with models already with 4 digits.) Personally I think Xbox2 sounds better and more logical than XBOX 360 because skipping from just Xbox to '360' can be somewhat deceptive, but then again, it's all marketing/advertising strategy that we'll just have to live with.
As an "alpha geek" teenager who helps two elderly people with their computer, it's amazing how desperate they can be when they have a computer problem. Although I charge them $25/hour, Like Falcon, my parents got a free tax laywer which they're happy about.
It was inevitable. Sure, we've discovered galaxies, stars, planets, etc with it, but beyond that, is there a practical use for this information? Did we ever find life out there? No. Just more rocks, gas, and nothingness.
Don't get me wrong. I think space exploration is fascinating, but there are enough problems on this planet that money spent finding literal nothingness could be used to help solve. (e.g. tsunami relief, world hunger, etc)
Honestly, I'm glad the white house made this decision. Unfortunately, I'm worried where the money's going to go and be used for because it's hard not to wonder in an age with a government so ignorant such as the US's. Just my 2c.
Chris Rock does a brilliant bit about drug ads. He talks about the ads just naming symptoms until they hit on something that rings a bell with you. "Do you get sleepy at night? Do you wake up in the morning? I got that. I'm sick!"
Acually it was Greg Giraldo in his stand up acts-not Chris Rock. You can also hear that bit in the song by lazyboy called "Underwear goes inside the pants"
It seems as though nostalgia always sells. I went to a local mall recently and there was a stand that was selling something similar to these-it was an N64 shaped controller with a decent collection of SNES games right in the controller. I know if I had money I'd buy it for a young relative to experience the joys of my own childhood. Wouldn't you?
What these people must realize is that many violent videogames e.g. WWII games are based on the real world, even if just for entertainment's sake. GTA reflects high crimes in a fictional city that highly resembles some of the US ones. Of course, these aren't meant to be taken AS fact and never really are. One of the major misconceptions about violent videogames is that reality is based on them and they have an overwhelming influence on children over reality, but this just isn't true. The first violent game I remember playing was Doom, but that didn't make me want to go out and shoot people. Videogames are based on reality, not the other way around
Honestly, how would such a celeb like him "[throw] his popularity behind the open source community" The open source community is quite a community, and there is no central entity holding it together like M$ holds its own corperation. Of course, power to the penguin, but it just won't happen, hasn't happened, and probably won't happen anytime soon.
I'm in school now, and there are currently five computers in the house. I find that distraction occurs when some idea or thought pops up in my mind that tells me "you MUST find out about that NOW" and "it will only take 5 minutes". Of course I give in, but then I find myself checking/. then IGN and every other computer related site that comes to mind.
The internet is like a drug. Once you pop the fun don't stop. It's my source of knoledge, my wise old man, mi cumpanero, my escape. However, 5 some odd years later of this bad habit and my parents wondering why my grades are so inconsistent, I, a high school student, make a very decent income teaching old people how to use just about every piece of software out there, and am able to answer just about any (unfortunately) windoze hardware and software related question from friends, family, etc. My field of expertise is based on the internet, but internet time is the only way.
In fact, I write this comment now just after stopping in the middle of my calc homework to see what the lastest news on/. is. Many lost hours and days of my life have been gone into internet use, and an outcome for me has been bad grades sometimes, but I believe knowledge is power and since the internet is a never-ending or infinate source of knowedge I will never stop using the internet to gain knowledge-carefully.
At first having one login for everything on the web may seem like an intelligent idea; one that solves the problem of people not having to remember a gazillion different logins for every website. This may be also be great for old people who just can't remember. However, what happens if someone gets a hold of you login name, or oh, just overlooks you typing in your password. Will they have access to all your accounts on any website you have registered on the net? Isn't there a reason why people make different logins with different passwords in the first place, so this wouldn't this become a problem in the long term? Just my 2c.
"The monsters aren't from hell, but rather people mutated by some nasty super-virus although the monsters look very similar to those in the game."
Now come on people, one of the major scare aspects of Doom is that the monsters are from hell. I almost shat my pants when monters started flying out of portals from hell. Hell is your worst mightmare, and without Hell, Doom just won't be as scary as the game was. This is a major problem with game->movie ports; 'plot-chopping'
Why not try Knoppmyth(http://www.mysettopbox.tv/knoppmyth.html )? It's a package of Knoppix with MythTV already installed. He's made it mucchhh easier for anyone to install mythtv without any hassle. All you need to do is pop the cd in and install. However, you'll need to repartition or wipe clean your hard drive before installing.
I love the idea of multimedia in the car, but just one problem:
"The prototype is equipped with 7 cameras on the body and a 12-inch LCD monitor in the front"
Wouldn't this be more than a little bit distracting for the driver? I mean, what's more interesting, watching the red light change green or watching neo take the red pill?
There is a right time and right place for everything. Cars should be off limits to microsoft. The last thing I want when driving to my best bud's wedding is for the MS based GPS software to BSOD. Point being: A car is a valuable thing, as is your life. Just remember, when you fall out the window, the mighty penguin will be there to catch you:P
it seems as though this is the year for long distance wireless. Finally Wi-Max is almost here and blue tooth has been modded to have a distance of 1 mile...count me in
IMO there are way too many IM clients already out there. If google were to release one it would just mean more clutter on my desktop and more work to try and get all my buddys to get the client and sign up for it too. This reminds me of what sony is doing now-trying to get a piece of the competition by releasing something good and theoretically better, but really, does anyone acually use sony's atrac?
As a teenager I remember a few years back when everyone was ubcessed with The Sims-yes, even the girls, and the hot ones too. I can only recall of two fems I know that were into computer games. The games were The Sims, DiabloII, The Final Fantasy Series, Starcraft, Everquest. One thing I notice about all of these games that they have in common is that they have some kind of distict heroine that is user-selectable or within the game. However, this does not apply as much with (for example) the Tomb Raider series, which features the lovely Lara Croft with her...gigantic bosoms-something not appealing to most females in a videogame. The ladies seem to like more adventerous or life-like fantasy games and less gory shoot-em-up games.
Even without many women contributing to the development of the games I named above, they(and I'm sure many others) are still a sucess among females.
This does make me curious as to how other types of games that appeal more to men would turn out if more women helped in the development of them.
In a time where it seems like developers are out of game ideas, this may be just what the gaming world needs-more women to spice up the way guys and gals game from now on.
True mobility over such a vast stretch of land is great. If I lived there I'd roam around town iming all my friends that i'm...well roaming around. But the fun would all end when my laptop's battery dies.
I must wonder why that article mentions such a small site as an example for a "clicker" site. Just take a look at this: http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details? &range=3m&size=medium&compare_sites=www.quickercli ckers.com&url=click2freemoney.com#top
That is the traffic ranking for Click2freemoney.com as opposed to a larger site called QuickerClickers.com .

Hmm graph scatter plots an quadratic regressions at twice the speed? I'll take it!
Does anyone know if this'll work on a Ti-89 Titanium?-I just got one this year for class. Good stuff.
score 1 for terrorists using yahoo mail
