At first, I thought that people were completely exaggerating the failure rate just to make MS look bad, etc, whatever reason. I bought my 360 in March 2006, and in Jan 2007, I got the dreaded red ring of death. I called MS up and got mine repaired for free. It's pretty funny that they actually have a menu option for if you're seeing the red ring of death. This kind of suggested this problem was slightly more widespread than I previously thought. All said and done, I was without a working Xbox for ~3 weeks, including all shipping delays.
Approx a year after I purchased my 360, everyone else who I know (5 or 6 people) have all gotten the red ring of death and had to replace theirs. And no, none of them are sitting in an enclosed entertainment center, etc. The power brick is properly placed and has plenty of buffer space around it and whatnot. I'd really love if MS would actually say what the problem is that causes this red ring.
If a Warrior is matching damage with a rogue, and also gets to tank in a pinch by swapping in a shield, or taunt in an emergency to save a caster then why have rogues?
1. Rogues have aggro reducing abilities, which warrs do not. If they accidentally pull aggro on, say Vael, they can fade (or whatever its called) to get rid of aggro. If a warr pulls aggro on Vael, a wipe ensues because he can't get rid of aggro. There's still advantages to having rogues.
2. It takes a TON of gear to get a DPS warr to output as much damage as a tier1 rogue. I had to get completely purple in tier2 and AQ gear to match rogue damage. It takes far less time/gear for a rogue to do that much damage. Why shouldn't the very top DPS warrs do as much damage as a rogue? It's like 0.01% of the world population.
Imagine that, DPS warrs get fucked again. Compared to the other revealed class trees, arms/fury warriors get the shaft once more. *sigh* I think the only thing I'm really excited about is the %hit skill in the fury tree. I've been wanting one of those forever. Props to Blizz for putting that in. Imp Pummel is pretty nice too, but the 41 pt talent is pretty lackluster IMO, especially because of the cooldown. Being very well-geared, I already generate enough rage to spam Bloodthirst and Whirlwind as it is. Rage isn't an issue for me.
At least the new prot skills are very very nice. Seems Blizz is slowly pushing us toward a tank-only class which is sad as the well-geared DPS warrs in my guild can put up just as much damage as a rogue. It makes full prot a lot more viable of a tank than a DPS/prot hybrid spec now.
Oh yeah, anyone notice how Blizz quietly nerfed Flurry? Now it only procs on a white hit instead of a special (BT, WW, etc). Awesome.
Unfortunately, there's ways around their ToS (I don't know it verbatim, so take what I'm about to say with a grain of salt). I know someone who just put his account up for sale on eBay and it was closed by eBay, which is expected. He reposted and got a successful sale, just because he changed some of the verbiage within. Instead of selling his account, he said something along the lines of "I'm giving away the game and account for free as I am no longer interested in playing my character anymore, and you are paying me only for my time invested."
That sale went through and he made somewhere in the ballpark of $600 by selling two epic'ed out level 60 characters.
I take it you didn't see Episode 6. You know that huge ball that went up in flames? Yeah, that was this Star of Death you mention. So to answer your question, no it doesn't run Linux... anymore.
Uh, that was the the first example off the top of my head. I don't believe I said Blizzard was the pioneer of rep, but thanks for trying to take a shit on my post.
Once upon a time, I actually attended Lake Highschool and let me say that this does not surprise me that they'd over-react like this. No one in that school knows their ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to technology; at least not when I was there some 7-8 years ago. Hell, 90% of the town is owned by the Amish and Mennonite and there's still horse and buggies going to church on Sunday mornings if that tells you anything.
I can just imagine the principal (if it's still the same one), who talks like Elmer Fudd, coming over the PA:
"XXXX, would you pwwweaaaase come to the office, you are in vewy vewy much trouble!"
Back on topic, this is hardly a felony. Back in those highschool days, I had a few friends make fake IDs via scanners (not in school either). The cops were brought into school and talked to everyone and instead of going to court, they were told to do X hours of community service which none of them bothered to do. I wouldn't be surprised if this guy just got community service.
Yeah, it sucks, but come on, it takes 5 minutes of searching through howardforums.com to find a hack for your own phone, and 30 seconds to find a suitable data cable on eBay. Seriously, I spent $100 on my Motorola e815 (after $50 mail-in) with a 2 year Verizon contract, then $0.01 (+$6.99 S/H, what a racket but that's a completely different rant) on a data cable from eBay. Don't even bother buying one from Verizon, as they charge you upwards of $30.
I got home that night, found a thread for the e815 and after changing 1 bit in my phone memory, I had re-enabled OBEX and had numerous mp3s transferred over to my phone to use as ringers. The longest part of the whole process was editing my songs to ringer length.
Moral of the story is, yeah Verizon sucks for crippling OBEX on their phones, but can you blame them? By doing this, they can charge their customers for custom ringers, wallpaper, etc. It all equates to more profit, but if you spend $7 on a USB data cable from eBay, you can get around this fairly easily.
Yep, I had this exact problem. I was a Netflix subscriber for 3 months on the 5 at a time plan. In 2 months I must have gone through somewhere around 60-70 DVDs. By the time the third month rolled around, deliveries were no longer taking 2 days. They would receive a movie one day, and I would get a new one exactly a week later. I put up with this for 2-3 weeks just to make sure it wasn't a postal delay, but sure enough, every DVD took at least a week to be delivered. That was the last straw for me. I cancelled and will never sign up for Netflix again. So much for unlimited rentals. Sheesh.
electrical or computer engineering. you know software, now learn hardware. it'll vastly increase the number of jobs you can apply for. plus, you wont be stuck in a cubicle for 45 hours a week pounding out line after line of code (can you tell i hate programming?). you'll be able to go down to the lab and get a hands-on experience.
3 more months and then i graduate with a bachelors in computer/electrical enginering (math minor as well). basically ive taken a bunch of circuit analysis, digital logic design, microcontroller design, modern processor design, plus ive had my fair share of programming.
basically what im trying to say is that learning the hardware aspect of computers will open up many more doors as far as your career is concerned. once you know hardware AND software, there will be basically nothing you can't do.
man, is my dad going to be relieved when he reads this article. he works for firstenergy and will be glad to know that its not his fault that the blackout was his fault.
this article is completely ruined by this one line:
Philet0ast3r's party was crammed with 20 friends who were blasting the punk band Deftones, playing cards, smoking furiously and arguing about politics.
this writer may know his computers, but he sure doesnt know his music genres.
that hot 21/f/bi chick i was talking to last night actually turned out to be a 45 year old fat man with a hairy back. who would have thunk it?
just goes to show that you cant always trust what you read, even if you should be able to. whats next, slashdot is actually running windows 3.1 webservers?
you are absolutely right. i agree that certain types of games play better on pc and certain ones play better on consoles. it just so happens to be that i mostly play FPS and sports games.
and yeah i also agree that sitting on the couch with a beer or 24 is better when having friends over.
to be honest, ill never spend 300 on a video card either. i bought my gf4 a year and a half ago for 230, but still, i see your point.
now i dont have an xbox, so forgive my ignorance, but dont you have to pay for xbox live? if so, thats a very big reason why i would rather play games on a pc. exact same reason i will never play any MMORPG's. i think its ridiculous to spend a monthly fee on a game you already shelled out a hard-earned $60 for.
plus, when playing with friends on a pc, i have my own 19" viewable screen instead of dividing up the tv into 4 boxes and making it impossible to distinguish a tank from a rock. i dunno, just personal preference.
i still wont buy one. i think its ridiculous to spend 300+ on a console system. ill stick with counterstrike and doom3, thanks.
hell, i dont even have a regular xbox yet. i might pick one up when they drop to 99. last console i bought was n64, and i think i paid 99 for that as well.
i just find that games on pc are far superior to console games. plus, playing halo on a console controller is hard as balls. give me a keyboard and mouse anyday.
i was thinking the same thing. whats the point of having internet going at 70+mbps. it gets to be a moot point when you're downloading a few 50k jpeg files and some text.

I'm a skatman!
10 people on Vent steamroll 3 Alliance. Man that takes skill. Let me guess, you like to camp people in Southshore who are 30 levels below you, right?

MPAA != national security
Did you play me the other day? That's exactly what my logo is. No joke.

I can just see the headlines the next day:
"Local feral druid murdered over inability to heal group"
Uh, that was the the first example off the top of my head. I don't believe I said Blizzard was the pioneer of rep, but thanks for trying to take a shit on my post.
Right, because reputation hasn't been implemented in WoW.
Amazing new concept!
