Our sales Friday were the best ever for our "direct" business. Yesterday's orders (in front of me) are standard for the season, but nothing like "Black Friday".

Personally, I prefer SA to VC. I found Vice City to be immensely disappointing, since the whole 80's vibe made it (IMHO) corny.

I prefer GTA3 and SA, mostly because it's more realistic. I grew up in the 80's, and frankly, once was enough. I despised every radio station except the talk radio (LT was hysterical with the "Fit for Football")...

My only beef with SA was the dating aspect. I'm playing video games to ignore women's wishes...the last thing I want to to is jump through hoops for some chick, only to be "gimped"

I loved the re-enactment of the riots, loved the profanity, and taking over gang turf was a great addition. I grew up listening to hip-hop, and really enjoyed the whole "early 90's NWA" vibe.

Agreed. I am a huge Firefly fan, and I happily own the first season on DVD. I was anticipating this for months, went to opening night, and was disappointed.

It seemed to me like the script for the second season was crammed into two hours. I think that the movie lacked some of the subtlety of the series; I felt like the characters were caricatures of the ones in the show.

To me, the biggest appeal of the show was that they weren't "saving the universe", but getting into adventures while going about thier business. I suppose this development was inevitable, but I still didn't like it.

I was suprised that more /.ers weren't more critical of the movie. Reviews here were so glowing, I thought perhaps Apple had a hand in making the movie :)

The screen on my notebook got extremely "wriggly", and I was complaining about it to a friend. I have a HP, so I can't speak for your notebook in particular, but both of my friend's Toshbia notebooks have the "screen tighteners" as well. It's worth a look before you pay someone to fix it.

He's got a point there. I too worked in a factory, and it sucked. I understand that it's hard work and lame pay, but I worked my butt off, moved up the ladder, and now I'm the production manager. I have an office, and it's a decent-paying white collar job.

An acquantiance of mine asked me for a job. I offered him one in the factory. He was instanly dismissive, despite the fact he has NO education, and no work record to incdicate that he would last more than the first paycheck. He complained that he just "needs someone to give him a sweet job". He was less than pleased when I told him that you have to earn those.

  16. Re:Hmmm on Why the Rokr Phone Is An Important Failure · · Score: 1
The article may be right about the 100-song limitation being Apple's fault, but all the other design flaws of the Rokr are the fault of Motorola and/or cell carriers, not Apple.

I think the biggest problem is that it looks like shit, and that is Apple's fault. While we geeks argue the technical aspects, the average person sees it and says "yeah, it's a phone." For this to be successful, it needs to stand out and be instantly recognized as an "iPhone".

The general public purchases things like this for status...and because it "looks cool". Had Apple designed it and had Motorolla manufacture it, then it might have been a much bigger deal. iPod white and polished metal, flip-style, and it becomes the most coveted phone to have, ever-even if it only holds 25 songs.

I'd guess that if Apple does introduce video to iTunes, it would be music videos. It would keep with the theme of a "music store". I think labels would be happy to sell something they spend a lot of money on and rarely sell; they may would be willing to price them cheaply enough for iTunes customers to consider buying.

Videos would be much smaller downloads, and would give Apple a way to test video-for-sale.

He's got no real reason to lie to me, since I get discounted tickets from him ($1.50 cheaper). I found this out when he was admonishing me for smuggling in Taco Bell...Granted, there's a decent margin on the snacks, but that's where the Theaters make their money.

I'm posting while waiting my turn in Madden 2006. Having a couple of games under my belt, it's great. I am a huge football fan (Go Browns!) and the revised rosters make the game. My friend plays with the Eagles, and has for years. When we saw that TO signed with them(Madden 2005), we couldn't wait to see what kind of difference was made in the results. Some people are sports fans, and with player movement, the game doesn't seem "right" without the players on the correct teams.

There's some interesting innovations to the passing game, but even if the gameplay and graphics are the same, I'll buy 2007 just for the updated rosters and player rankings.
