Maybe not so much for the scientists, as astronomical observation in this field is done almost entirely with autonomous instrumentation.
More specifically, the Hobbyist astronomer will be a big loser in this deal...Light pollution is already a big problem in cities. Once corporate interests get their hands on this technology, we can all pretty much forget about going out on a clear night and gazing to the stars.
So far, the planets and stars represent the only remaining frontiers void of political or corporate boundaries.
*sigh* as a cynic, I've been expecting to hear news like this for quite some time...
I don't know if a 20 year old driver is less scary than a 70 year old. They both have poor driving vision and reflexes; the main difference is that the 20 year old drives faster. Why didn't they talk about good drivers, like middle-aged longtime commuters?
This is a baseless generalization. I don't know how many times I've found myself driving behind a swerving, dangerous middle aged driver who was lighting a cigarette or just plain not paying attention.
Granted, a lot of people my age aren't among the most skilled people on the road, I'm sure you'd see that statistically, the percentages for both groups line up. It is an unfair assumption that just because I am younger than you, your abilities are better than mine.
The control for this game allows for you to move your character with the traditional "wasd" setup, while using the mouse to look, target, interact, etc... The default setup also allows for the player to control their character using the mouse alone, though this does feel a little clunky.
Most P2P clients I've found nowadays are either spyware infested and bloated with so many unnecessary features that they consume more memory than I'm willing to give up.
That, or there aren't enough users on the network to make it worthwhile.
I've never been a fan of floppy disks. With the low capacity and high rate of data loss, I'll feel a lot safer walking around with my pen drive attached to my keychain. In fact, I haven't even installed a floppy drive in my computers for 3 or 4 years now!
The windows machine I have attached to webcams in the girls showers of this dorm are all secure. Though I am running out of space to backup video footage...
if the author is paranoid of RIAA subliminal advertising, what makes you think he's going to believe something available on the internet? Just because it's posted on the web, doesn't mean it's true.
IE And Mozz Collaborate On RSS Icon *sigh*...do the editors even read this site anymore?
ALL traffic should be encrypted by default. It should be invisible to the average user, but configurable for those who are interested.
Actually, if you'll notice, I made that comment in response to a parent post...Not to the article itself.
I got the idea when i noticed the refrigerator was cool...
Hey, its like quantum mechanics: the simple act of observation changes the outcome!
Most pairable degree with Computer Science: Mathematics. Affinity for math tells employers you're capable of high level, abstract thought.

I named my wireless network "Can't touch this"
finally, i can clean up my machine and make it fast enough to outpost everyone else!
Now if only he could build a lego server powerful enough to fight off the horde that is slashdot...

Anyone know of a decent alternative?

As webmaster of a certain THX-1138 fan site (which will remain nameless to avoid slashdotting), this is excellent news
how arrogant to assume that i would visit your website.
I could be mistaken, but didn't sun's CEO recently make a statement that he had considered making java open source, but decided against it?
the US Coalition will dominate the world with ION Cannons from space, while terrorists will be stuck in the stone age firing nuclear weapons.
