I take it you work with these or similar:) I'm very glad you took the time to explain what they are used for, thank you very much, from the bottom of my heart.
It just came in with the tools, I knew it must be something special so I got it for myself, I am a little curious now for what they would be worth haha, I paid NZ$20 which would be like US$15 I would guess. Would you be so kind to tell me how much it could possibly be worth, you know, just so I could have an idea, its ok if you dont say, just would be something interesting to know. I have one question for you, just something simple I bet, how does it attach? I can see it has screw holes, but the other end is like a smooth blade really, not sharp enough to cut into bone etc, and it doesnt have any way for a screw to be put through it etc short of drilling a hole for that in it.
Its interesting what came with it too in its little sealed bag, just some basic instructions the surgeons would know, its not sterile, its T4 Ti etc etc. It mentions not to reuse them, I can imagine the trouble a broken one could cause. I did know about using ceramic parts, read about Hip Replacement on Wikipedia, they have a very cool Titanium part in the hip joint I'd rather like to have one but that could be a bit...icky for lack of a more masculine word:)
Thank you very much for your help, I was genuinely at a loss to find out, I actually emailed the company that makes them in England and they didnt bother to respond. Thank you for taking the time.
made my Downs Surgical Limited England, it came from a hospital (along with a bunch of tools from the morgue) but I doubt they put T4 Titanium into dead bodies? It was in packaging, just opened it now so I could grind it (JOKING!) and I cant seem to find any info about what a "Ellis Buttress Plate" does inside the body. Maybe I dont want to know... Its shaped like a T, with places for two recessed screws. The end of it the horizontal part is smooth, the end of the other bit is rounded around where the screw would be.
I read a lot of Jeremy Clarkson (top gear guy), he's very fond of the English Lightning, when he lived in a lighthouse (I think) he had one pared on his front lawn!
In his book, I Know You Got Soul, he has the SR-71 as the main thing, its on the covers. According to him, it produced only 20 percent of its power from the actual engine, you may have also known it got better economy the FASTER it went. I've read the engines could have done mach 4.5, which sure would have been something, you could basically, I would think, tickle them up to 5 from 4 and a half. Its rather sad to think that people came up with all this great stuff so so long ago! When an iPhone would have been the work of a witch! And yet, Mach 3 was reachable. I Know You Got Soul is quite good reading.
"Former Lockheed Raptor chief test pilot Paul Metz stated that the Raptor has a fixed inlet; but while the absence of variable intake ramps may theoretically make speeds greater than Mach 2.0 unreachable, there is no evidence to prove this. Such ramps would be used to prevent engine surge, but the intake itself may be designed to prevent this. Metz has also stated that the F-22 has a top speed greater than 1,600 mph (Mach 2.42) and its climb rate is faster than the F-15 Eagle due to advances in engine technology, despite the F-15's thrust-to-weight ratio of about 1.2:1, with the F-22 having a ratio closer to 1:1.[23] The US Air Force claims that the F-22A cannot be matched by any known or projected fighter.[1]"
So yeah, Paul Metz is quoted on that in other places if you also dont trust Wikipedia!:)I searched "F22 Raptor wikipedia fixed inlet" and quite a lot came up
Hope that helps you, frankly, its all very interesting to me what they say X can do, I dont buy into any of it. I am very interested in the SR-71 (did you know it was to be called RS-71? but US President got it wrong and they changed so he didnt look stupid later? ha, should change things later for Bush!) and the 22, should be interesting to see what the Laser in development will be like for the 22, I've read about the excess power it produces, designed for beam weapons and who knows what else, good old Black Budget:)
The Wikipedia article has the Test Pilot saying that the Raptor CAN do well over Mach 2. This isnt like the guy who knows the guy who flew the Blackbird all those years ago, this is the test pilot, right now:)
In NZ its been mandatory to wear helmets for 10+ years. I grew up with it, cant imagine it any other way. The slogan was, if my helmet protected memory is correct, "cool kids wear lids" hahaha. It was lame even then.
I know of a family friend whose grandson (14) was pulled over by police and fined over $100. Nothing they could do to fight the charge, he should have been wearing the helmet he had on his handlebars.
Now, I grew up climbing trees, playing sport etc. I have scars from Ice Skating, I've fallen onto rusty nails before, I fell a metre onto a rock and needed stitches...come to think about it, you should be glad they dont make us have to wear a full body armour suit (like Halo) all the time! You never see the one that gets you;)
You would be against wearing a helmet? Christ, I've learnt some shocking things from this story. I'm not American, Ill make that clear, New Zealand is a lot different from the USA. But you think helmets being mandatory is stupid? Have you ever met anyone who has been brain damaged from coming off a bike? I would think it was common sense, if you see the parents of these children on tv, it would really touch you. Are you against seatbelts too? Being told not to use your cellphone as you drive?
That said, I dont want my children to be spineless as you put it. But I still want them to have the faculties to go with the decision making.
Funny you should say about censoring the Wizard of Oz, you do realise when it came out in the 20's (?) it was quite scary? It had a few scenes that were taken out of it, like Dorothy singing somewhere over the rainbow while she was captured in the castle after the witch appeared in the crystal ball to laugh at her. Ive seen it, and it would have made the movie sadder, it seems that she has serious depression if anything at that point, that she would even kill herself to get away from the witch.
Now, Return to Oz, THAT needed censorship, seriously, kids movies from the 80's were scary, none of this Shrek business! I was scared by ET, the way he was always screaming and scared etc, I dont believe modern movies make children cry the same as those? Sad tears if it makes it easier to excuse!
Have you heard about his wireless power? Being broadcasted from the Wardenclyffe tower? That blows me away, that he said it was all worked out, and so long ago.
I remember when the iBook (G3) was introduced, with wifi. My school had one, I remember Steve Jobs putting this working computer through a hula hoop, it was still on the network, still powered through the battery. Ok, so right now being able to move the tv around the house while its on (I have this new thing from Japan called Rabbit Ears)is not so amazing. But *somebody* would figure out amazing ideas for it, planes that run on broadcasted power etc.
And I'm in Invercargill. I didnt find Out of the Blue that interesting, its going to be on 3 in a couple of days. Oh sure, its very "kiwiana" all the shops, and I think watties sauce etc, but as a shocking movie like it was built up to be, it wasnt anything to bother with. I found it boring as hell as the start is Gray getting picked on by everyone around him, kids in the back of the school bus as he rides his bike, and getting no respect from his neighbours. Until halfway through he takes his gun out and you know what happens from there. The second half is "where is he" kind of thing, old people who cant make it to a phone, people stuck inside, police saying "whats going on". He was just hiding inside one of the cribs the whole time. Not very interesting as a movie and as a documentary it wasnt factual about a few things. I felt very sad for Gray as the start of the movie makes it look as if people are winding him up, easy to spot things in hindsight of course, and I didnt like the rest of the townspeople. All they were doing was "where is he?" for a few hours. No real leadership against him and he wasnt really that dangerous seeming, since he seems to have been hiding in little shacks eating baked beans if my memory serves correctly. Dont get me wrong, I do feel for the real victims. I just dont like the movie at all.
Have you ever visited the site of the shootings? Its a very backwards, classic NZ sort of place. felt like it belonged in Te Papa, just these tiny little sheds of houses, and a nice pier. The roads all around are pretty crazy, very windy and narrow, cant imagine swat trucks zooming around the bends!
Interesting that you might have met him.
Reckon fireworks will be banned now? I think its a joke the response to the public display that went wrong, three kids trampled? a grown man in tears about how awful it was? His daughter cant sleep because of "the monster"?
Guessing you are a fellow New Zealander, so what would you like to be done about this? I'm not attacking you on anything, just making that clear, I'd like to hear your opinion on what needs to be done, or not, here in NZ.
You might recall all the things about the terrorist camps, Tama Iti I believe. Its starting to affect us here in NZ. I think that Tama Iti should be in the slammer for life just for his past actions, he has a huge amount of support it seems.
I see Out of the Blue, about the Aramoana shooting is on TV3 soon, which is somewhat upsetting now. Just one guy, without videogames, death metal, slashdot to blame.
My grandmother doesnt want to ever see things like that, I think everyone should see it as a documentry, that its no different than the newspaper articles were. A workmate thinks we celebrate these people by giving news coverage. Whats your feelings? Or not, sorry to bother you.
In NZ we have full dissection kits for sale, scalpels, tweezers etc. Surely a few bland chemicals are safer than a ten dollar dissection kit? "Kitties got something in his eye, I'll fix him"
Funny, when you look at the history books (wikipedia) it mentions how Americans ran across the border for a BETTER life during war recruiting! And how about when you get older and need healthcare?:)
Yeah, I have, but remember a lot of "old" people grew up with Transformers! Its just like how cds are now marketed to older people, lots of Elvis compilations etc coming out!
A question for you now, do you know how many people watched Transformers the movie BEFORE it came out, illegally?
New Zealand is not that far at all from Australia, we are alike in some ways, but very different in others. I like to think that there still is an ANZAC spirit, look it up on wikipedia.
Australia is a country, and so large its actually its own continent! New Zealand is mostly two islands, North and South, with a few others around us. Most people live in the North which is smaller than the South in land size.
First I saw an article about something happening in New Zealand that was filed under Australia for some ignorant reason, and now I read in another summary their/there getting mixed up!
Its interesting that they keep making movies for geeks,(Epic-Over-The-Top-Special-Effects-War, Robots, Cyberspace, Hacking-Computers-With-An-iPod) who are the most likely, surely, to be pirating them? So the people they make 100 million US dollar movies for, are the ones ripping them off!? Maybe they get ideas from the fan art desktops from seized computers?
I was so used to my 3G iPod, and when I got the current one, I was shocked at how the centre "ok" button isnt touch sensitive! Its an actual button! ARRRGH! It feels horrible clicking buttons when you're used to touch sensitive devices! Its a little like how Im quite a fast typer on a computer, but barely have the strength to type at all on a typewriter keyboard!
you're very correct on that, but when you say how Sony always does this etc, we really only have the ps to ps2 to talk about!
Here in NZ, we still get PS2 games getting advertised far more than PS3, to my knowledge anyway. I wonder, when is the point when the PS2 just dies? Im going to wait a little longer before considering getting a PS3, Ill wait till the price comes down. I remember reading on slashdot that the current PS2 costs 13% of what the first PS2s cost to make?!?
Thats a very good point. A lot of The Daily Show, which I love to watch EXCEPT FOR WHEN ITS MAKING FUN OF MY GOVERNMENT, seems to make fun of silly things that they take out of context to make a big deal. I'm sure there's many politicians who have a "kick me" sign stuck on them because of the show.
I used to contribute quite a bit to Wikipedia, but got sick of the "god kings" that corrected me on which template to use, and then another one would say that the new template still wasnt what they would have done....
The point is, Wikipedia aint just some joke Encyclopedia, that would be Uncyclopedia.
I myself would vote "right", but I can see some sense in your post. Sadly, I dont see it doing any good and yes, its ended up flamebait, but I hope you are genuine about the issue. Many other countries feel similar to how America must, but how come nobody else picks fights like the Americans, name the countries they have invaded. It would go on and on. Then there are Black Projects, which sound like they are straight out of the Movies!
I hope that Bush can find some kind of an answer to his problems now and wont leave them to his successor. I think that voting for the democrats would be much much better than republican right now.
I take it you work with these or similar :) I'm very glad you took the time to explain what they are used for, thank you very much, from the bottom of my heart.

However in my defence, :), things in popular culture, such as The Simpsons use "Down Under" as Australia and Australia alone!
I've learned something for the day.
Kids these days...
Have they ran out of ideas for romantic comedies?
Down Under is Australia people, this happened in New Zealand. There IS a difference, like Canada and America!
