  3. Games on Mac on G5 iMac To Come With Marble Blaster Gold · · Score: 3, Insightful
I think what kills Macs for gamers is not the amount of games for Mac, but probably individual specific games themselves. For example Doom 3 for Mac may be great and all but all I really want is Mechwarrior 4, Civilisation 3, Morrowind, and Empire Earth. I mean there are tons of other games out there but I'm tied to those. I'm betting that for most people like list would include Counter-Strike/Day of Defeat/Half-Life, and Half Life 2. I mean how many people just play CS? Actually, come to think of it it might be in Apple's best interest to get Valve to port their engine to Mac since CS is a scary *HUGE* deal for a lot of people (yes I realise that it is unfeasible since Source is Direct X base IIRC). So the argument is not really about whether Mac has games, but whether Mac has the games people want.I'd be interested to be a list of the games people want by percentage and compare that to your availibility list.

Also another thing is that Mac ports come out later. People can't wait for games to come out and they don't want to wait longer. For example Doom 3 was huge and all the rage, but now most people I know have beat it (myself included) and are kinda bored of it. By the time it comes out for Mac it will be passe.

None the less, unless new versions of the games I mentioned come out soon and force me to upgrade my next computer will be a Mac.

It also IMHO illustrates what ruined Star Trek for me so that I don't admit likingL people who just don't get it. People who memorize StarDates but fail to realize that it was just a vehicule for sharing hope and ideas about the future and thats what was really important to the series. That said as soon as I read the news thought of that clip.

  7. Simple Request... on Apple Introduces New G5 iMac · · Score: 1

While I'm sure no one will read this anyway here it goes: I see a lot of people that make unreasonable requests that show that they have obviously missed the point somewhere along but there is one thing I think they could and should include. It would be nice if they put one or two PCMCIA slots on the thing. It wouldn't add too much to the size of it and it would give some expandibility without eating into the PowerMac's market I think. It would also be something to throw in the faces one of the most common complaints. It may eat into there blue-tooth and wireless module sales though.

I'm also moderately surprised --though I think it's no big deal-- that they only support 5.1 surround sound when Intel's new motherboards and laptops will support 7.1. I mean functionally it's not that big a difference considering how many people are willing to shell out for top-notch computer speakers but I'd think it be a source of pride for Apple.

Just install it, right click on the toolbar in the context menu Toolbars->Desktop Manager and there you go. Different backgrounds for each and key bindings too! All from your friends at Microsoft so that I don't think it qualifies as a "hack". (also I found some really cool PowerToys for my TabletPC).

Sorry, but can't both these problems be marginalized by adding some extra shielding to the case much like some modders already do with foam to minimize sound? Hell couldn't you combine both together? That way you could always carry around your remote with you.. your PDA! that way your remote also has a screen and costs nothing extra. Or why not use your cell phone instead? Also has screen and controls and j2me. This may not be an answer to everyone as it requires already owning a device thats expensive but many people already own these and this could be a free (beer and speech) add-on that would be a welcome addition. From your own link Unfortunately I don't have dates for either of these. However, Linux binaries will be available very soon after the PC game hits store shelves. There are no plans for boxed Linux games. I'm pretty sure the way this works is you buy and install the regular Windows version and run it with the help of the Linux binaries. I remember reading something about UT2K4 being done like that, but I could be wrong I don't buy games (or play them really). The linux binaries might let you install the game itself or you might be able to use Wine. All and this means that there should be no need to reboot to Windows if you are willing to wait a bit for the Linux binaries to come out.... and considering you probably won't get your hands on the first batch that omes out this should be no problem.
