  3. Google Settop Box on GoogleTV Coming Soon? · · Score: 1

I always thought of a google tv box, connected to internet. Google provides a bittorrent tracker for a list of movies. Imagine how the distribution works. Search for a movie, get the link, click it, the torrent starts downloading and it tells you when is ready, then watch it locally. The nicest point would be, if a movie is popular, then you're getting it faster. Now connect this idea with the announced google payment system and the google movie upload section. Ha? got the picture?? :D

  6. In germany is already Google Mail on New Legal Threat To GMail · · Score: 3, Interesting

Since a few months they changed the logo on the top left to a "Google Mail" logo, no longer "Gmail". So has a court ruled. See http://mail.google.com/mail/help/images/googlemail .gif
You can see that the domain serving the service is not gmail.com but mail.google.com.

So i think, this UK company has seen the success of this action in Germany and tries to profit in the same way.

Sincerelly, i don't really care how is it named, "Google Mail" makes more sense to me, even if i pronounce it as "geemail".

  20. Re:There is a solution on Broadband War & an Interactive Municipal Map · · Score: 1

Tell me the last time someone died from lack of internet access. Tell me how someone who can not afford internet access even over a phone line can afford a computer. Tell me how that money couldn't be better spent on the schools or other programs, rather than on a luxury, which is what the internet really is.

Well, putting jokes aside ( as i would 'die'), let me tell that without having _information_ where to get the food and shelter, you would be dead as well.

Humans developed speach and writing exactly to provide the others the _information_ for a specific topic, 40k years ago it was _only_ about food and shelter ( and sex ;) too ).

You wouldn't be here, posting on /. if some ages ago your ancestors did not communicate about food.

Your children may die starved if they will not have means to communicate with the other people.

Why not apply the same for internet access? These days, having access to global knowledge is as much as important as food and shelter.

Skype still doesn't work with ALSA. This is quite a pain in the ass for Linux users (very unstable, crashes anytime, no sound, etc), because i think the majority of Linux desktops are running latest generation distros, with 2.6.x kernels and of course, ALSA.

We should really push for an ALSA version, old OSS is obsolete. And OSS emulation is _not_ the solution. Am i right, dear /.-ers?
