I see a problem with this because of the NSA and their overreach into our private lives. They are already recording our phone calls, they already have access into the internet. So do we really want to have our computer's mic constantly hearing our conversations? MS records what your mic hears for Cortana's "improvement", what stops them from handing it over to the NSA?
Years ago I'd be considered crazy for this, but now with the NSA being who they the are, can you trust them? Can you trust MS? Can you trust your government. The same government that wants to do away with encryption?
Move along, nothing to see here. Microsoft has been trying to get their hooks into everybody just like Google and Facebook. If people don't care about their privacy and allow this kind of data collection in the name of "quality" and "focusing search results and ads.." "blah blah" we'll all become human centipads.
No, don't move on, don't ignore this stuff. Doesn't matter if it's been going on before, it's wrong and is starting to get very bad. We need to be taking a firm stance against this sort of stuff.
I guess maybe you are cool with it because they pay you a fee or something, but I, like other people, are not cool with it.
Reuters is engaged in a witch hunt that much is clear. The only thing Clinton is guilty of is bad email practice. There has been no smoking gun; nothing that come close to treason or giving away state secrets. Jesus Christ, check every member of Congress and see how they handle email, are they all in compliance.
Even the average person who reads the news knows by now that TS/SCI materials can't legitimately end up in unclassified email systems. The very best she could argue is "I had no idea what it was and deleted it immediately" at which rate she's still guilty of not handing over the machine(s) to the federal government to verify that the data is actually gone.
She needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law because the alternative is that we live in a country where contractors and lower level civil servants go to Leavenworth while the elite gets to make cutesy jokes about destruction of evidence in a national security scandal.
Even if your a loyal Democrat, this is not good. Keeping highly sensitive documents on personal servers when your a top government official is just wrong. No matter if there is a smoking gun or not. Just the fact this goes against all protocol setup and defined to protect information is very troubling. It shows Mrs. Clinton totally disregarded protocol simply for her own benefit and possibly for a convenient way of controlling history and her legacy in case she messed up. This goes far beyond a Richard Nixon moment and I cannot believe how many people still thinks she is the best the Democrat's have for President?? In my mind, she is just what America doesn't need in the White house. Another politician who makes up her own rules and disobey's government policy. Really? We want more of that in government? Hey, if your a Democrat do what you will next year at election time. But if Hillary Clinton is a choice. Do the right thing and don't vote that disgraceful piece of work into office. She has no place in public office of any kind.
Weird, you should say this, because the republicans have been guilty of the same thing in the past and yet nothing came of it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
So while everyone is getting on Clinton's ass, this isn't the first time this is happen and I'm guessing she'll get away with it also. Republicans, Democrats, both kinds of politicians that are cheating lying scum. At least we know there is one candidate out there who's had a record of doing what he says and doing what is right.
No, you pirate because you want something for nothing. That's the start, and the end of it. If it really were about the DRM you'd buy the software, then pirate a DRM free version. You don't do that, because you're a hypocritical bottom feeder.
You can call me a bottom feeder. I don't mind. I refuse to support the various copyright cartels though. They are a problem and I will not give them money continue. They don't like pirating and I don't like them, so I have no problem pirating their works. Just like they are walking on the public domain, I am walking on them.
Just because something is against the law, doesn't make the law just or right.
For example, I live in Washington State. I have been smoking weed most my life, since the 80's. Recently it's become legal. So what does that make me? Scum of the earth because I choose to use an illegal drug for years before it became legal, or was it me ignoring unjust laws because they weren't made to help people, but to put money in the pockets of only a few people?
No law says companies have to make profit, but the various copyright cartels think they deserve to make profit on everything they make, and if they don't, they blame it on pirating and try to use the laws to make even more money (in damages) on people who might have downloaded the movie for free.
I will always stand up against unjust laws. It's my duty as an American Citizen. And the copyright laws are unjust, because they unfairly keep money in the hands of the few while forcing more laws on the many to make sure they pay for it.
Like it or not, you pretty much have to use some version of windows. Whether it's at work or because of some windows-only software, there's really no way to avoid windows.
please tell us all what indispensible apps run on windows that have no equivalents on any other operating system
Games.
You might not thing they are indispensable, but they are. I am a PC gamer and enjoy playing computer games. Enjoy playing MMORPG's, enjoy many different games. Has Linux done what it's can for gaming? No. Very slowly recently peeps are trying to do something, but much like most of Linux, you got too many people trying to go different directions, and of course, we have the drivers issue.
PC Gamers have to use Windows to game. You want Linux to be mainstream? Then not only do you need to make 1 Desktop UI that people like, you also need to make sure people can game on Linux. While there has been some direction in that area, it's a small gesture and not enough to get anyone to switch.
If Linux wants to be the OS, then it needs to be a better gaming OS then windows. Then you'll find users wanting to switch.
Gamers like their genres, the problem is there might be one great game and then a bunch of crappy clones. So it seems like they stick to one game, when the fact is, there isn't that many good games.
Every time something becomes big, you get a dozen wanna-be games flooding the market, trying to make money off the popularity of the popular game. Crappy stuff usually. What we need is developers to be given the time they need to make games good and have their points, instead of quickly shoving it out the door at a certain set date. 40 years into the gaming industry and they still make the same mistakes they should of learned better from before.
Currently I've been playing Everquest 1 on one of it's time locked progression server. Why? Because it's fun and I'm having a great time playing it with my friends. 20 year old MMORPG is better to me then most of the current ones.
I don't know about anyone else, but Popcorn Time seems like a trap to me. Make a program that using bit torrent to share the movies between it's users. Let it run for a few years. Start testing the waters will a small lawsuit against a few users. If that succeeds, then use the info you gathered over the last few years to bring a lot of lawsuits against a lot of people.
So you're storing your data in a doll, and you have to buy a doll for each game you play? And people are still willing to pay above retail for these dolls? Sounds like Nintendo's happy with the current model to me, and somewhere PT Barnum is smiling.
You do understand that Nintendo doesn't more money of rare figures, the scalpers do. In fact, Nintendo is losing money by not making more of the "rare" ones available to buyers.
Of course you might. There's nothing like America for single-issue voting.
"Well, yeah, he's a complete idiot, and he'll plunge our country into a new depression, and half the population will starve to death, and the other half will eat them to stay alive, but there might be a few more jobs for American tech workers at the end of it!"
Actually Trump wouldn't hurt the country that much. Most laws he will try to pass probably will get vetoed by Congress or the Senate (forget who vetoes who) and when they try to pass laws, he's veto them because that is the sort of asshole he is.
And unlike how Obama lets congress do whatever, we'd have high comedy when Trump talks smack about them all the time.
Secret Laws and Rules do not create national security, they are the threat to national security. The problem is, without a clear set of rules, it's a law that is open to abuse towards whomever those who are in charge don't like. Secret laws & courts are what shows you that instead of caring about protecting it's citizen, the government is using it to further their own ends.
We can NOT have freedom when we have secret laws & courts.
The UK government, as do many others around the world, is just playing to a particular enclave of their supporters to gain political capital at the expense of others.
All this will do is kill a certain proportion of UK porn websites and enthusiasts (ahem) will look elsewhere; abroad.
That pesky international internet, eh?
Never mind, though, some dopey true-blue grannies will tell the bridge club what a good job the Tories are doing protecting their grand children. Even though they're not.
You mean, the UK wants to look big on cracking down on child porn while their Government is big on molesting children.
The tech industry, just like every industry, improves as people discover new and better ways to do things. If you can't keep up Oracle, you fall behind. And since you've chosen to litigate instead of innovate, you have fallen behind.
Funny how Corporations have managed to do away with pensions, reduces pay amount, rarely pays for vacation days, sure as fuck doesn't want to pay for pregnancy leaves, and been raping it's employees to line it's shareholders & CEO's pockets and people just accept it. Now they want to keep track of your health, so they can pay less healthcare cost, which they hardly pay much of at all, unless you are of course a Congress critter.
Think how worse it will be when the TPP crap goes thru and instead of Corporations being considered Persons, they will be even above Governments? Soon we will have to pay Corporations to be allowed to work there, if they could figure a way to trick us into that.
Idiot. The emails were "unmarked." That means not stamped with a classification. More, they reached her on an unclassified network. Clinton had every reason to believe they contained no classified information. Indeed, the claim that they do contain classified information remains unsubstantiated.
WHY THE FUCK WAS SHE CONDUCTING OFFICIAL STATE DEPARTMENT BUSINESS ON A PRIVATE EMAIL SERVER IN THE FIRST PLACE?!?!
Because she knew what the NSA was up to and wanted to keep her business private/secure from them. Not saying what she did was right, just saying I understand completely why she want to keep her emails private from the snoops of the NSA. Not to mention the government hasn't actually shown they can keep their servers secure anyways.
The successful freemium games I have played have been successful because greed isn't the motive. Generally because those don't require you buying anything, don't make it so you have to buy stuff to be successful and keep adding new content. Marvel Heroes 2015 is one of the best examples of this. And I have happily spent over $100 on it over the last 2 years. I don't play the game very much anymore, but I'm not above buying a new hero I like when it comes out just to support the company for making a fun "freemium" game.
Too many games force you to actually have to purchase stuff to compete, or have really annoying buy this ads. Don't update with new content. Give you hardly any play time, wanting you to buy more. I have enough games in my collection that I don't have to play yours if you make it to much of a pain.
Look, I didn't read the article and apparently I didn't even read the freaking summary properly. I am stoned and I'm a big gamer. I didn't know there was "freemium" business apps. Seems like a stupid model for business apps. My bad!

I did this for a long time. I actually ended up buying the "season passes" for shows on iTunes and "multi passes" of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. All told, i'd spend about $400 a year buying the HD versions of the shows on iTunes. The show's would be available to me the day after they aired on Cable. But I would own them, be able to watch them anytime, and they'd be commercial free. All for about half of what I was paying for cable each year.
Not to mention they are in a better quality then you'd see if you had HD cable, mainly Comcast.
Seems about as credible as that thing Homer Simpson won for being fat and falling in a hole.
yes, we now have confirmation that the ISDA is a bumch of clueless morons.
The Windows 10 Start Menu is an abomination that has almost none of the functionality of a real Start Menu (ie, Windows 7 and earlier) and all of the bad things of the Windows 8 Start Screen now crammed into a smaller space.
Bullshit. I haven't had to go to the internet once to find out how to do something on W10, unlike the abomination whack-a- mole administration method of Windows 8.
I installed and started using and started supporting all in the same day. Can't ask for much more than that.
And lest ye call me a shill, look up my other posts.
You did notice the guy said Windows 7 and earlier? And then you in your great intelligence decided to bust on Windows 8? Just curious, did you fail math in school?
Quite simply, it's not going to happen. While some people are comfortable sharing their stuff, the vast majority are rather possessive. They don't want to sit in someone else's filth. They don't want their car to drive off, pick up someone who has sex in it or their kid vomits or a pet shits, etc. Efficiency is all well and good but reality is people are disgusting and we generally want to keep to ourselves because of it.

A fuck buddy of yours? You mean you are a client also.
Why don't you just admit you pay for sex.

My guess is the NSA knew about it and just recently told MS it was okay to patch it.
I guess nothing would go wrong with "automatically installing firmware updates".

Guess that is why Uber never took off.
Actually, I've been on Slashdot for like 20 years, fuck I'm getting old.
