I don't think they mean to replace the "blackbox" as most people understand it. It is accurately described in TFA as a Personal Flight Recorder. As a (recreational) pilot I can imagine a number of situations where it would be useful to be able to record basic flight data such as altitidue, speed, ground track etc. to look at after a flight. Another thing is that most small airplanes with propeller engines crash at much lower speeds, leaving the plane a lot more intact than the crashes we see on the news. The ipod would therefor have a much bigger chance of surviving a crash.
Vista will run just fine on older hardware. I have a 4-5 year old 2.8GHz P4 with a 256MB nVidia 5700 video card and it runs Aero and Vista Business just fine. I wouldn't consider that old, just premature.
They might recover and not make the same mistakes again, but they also become largely irrelevant. IBM and Nontendo are perfect examples.
IBM is not big in the consumer market anymore. And that was even before they sold out their PC-division to Lenovo. But they are huge in the business sector. And they thrive at what they do. The fact that you don't see them doesn't make them irrelevant. It just makes you look a bit naive.
In fact this is what I hope will happen to Microsoft. I hope they fall deep, like IBM, then remove all garbage, and come out much smaller, but lean, quick, with good products, and grow on that.
I thought choice and competition were supposed to be good things. Well they are. But it might be better if they gave their manpower and marketing budget to Mozilla. They can then take Firefox and Thunderbird, rebrand them as Netscape, and move new (or old) users over to the good side.
Since when search engines care only about the headlines?
Search engines read the HTML, and evaluate it according to its structure. And in general a big heading like H1 is more important than a H2-heading, which is more important than a paragraph. So the search engine values big headings more, and ranks words found in it higher. The same goes for the order of headings, keywords and description tags, the title of the page, url-path of the page and the domain name.
How about Vista? Has Microsoft finally learned how to load SCSI drivers and such? So is it "Hasta la vista, Floppy" (as in: farewell), or "Hasta la vista, Floppy" (as in: til the next time I need a SCSI driver)???
They could still pay for the taxes for them. Yes, even that payment would be taxed, but you just work in how much. It still ends up a finite amount in the end.
No, it doesn't work like that. The post is misleading. If they give you a $138,000 check and then a $25,000 check "to pay the taxes", then the government will just consider your income to be $163,000 and then charge you 18% of that, i.e. $29,000. There's no way around it. The more money they give you the more taxes you will have to pay. Well, those 25K extra will leave only 4K to be paid by the winner. That's a big difference. If they would add another 5K, it will probably be enough to get a free (as in beer) ride.
Same thing that killed the guy who used to drive around bringing ice so your grandparents could keep the food in their icebox cold.
Syphilis? I only wonder how a webmaster would get syphilis.
A magazine I subscribe to included in this month's issue a free 35 song sample from eMusic.com. I investigated it and the service was horrible in every way. Music catalog sucked. Finding songs in their catalog sucked. The sound quality of samples sucked. Their purchasing options were limited to three subcription models. Even with free music samples I could not find any compelling reason to use their service.
I've used emusic. Their catalog is limited compared to ITMS. That's true. I can't judge the sound quality of your samples, but they offer 192 bit MP3 download. ITMS offers 128 bit AAC with DRM. Maybe AAC is better than MP3, but I don't think ITMS offers better quality. Then emusic offers MP3, no DRM!
Their publishing options are limited to three subscription models. What do you want to say here? That this is a bad thing? ITMS only has one option. Normally emusic is a lot cheaper than ITMS. The cheapest subscription is $20 I believe, giving you 40 downloads. If you only want one song, that's bad. But probably you can get all their songs in ITMS as well, so nothing is keeping you from going there if you only want that one song.
They are just offering a different service. And I hope they stay. They are giving the right example.
"helpful" activex popup ads: Yuor compooter may be infectad with eh rootkit! Instal Pwn0r T0olbar now 2 protekt your system from teh threts!
Damn. I've been googling for hours now - do you have an idea where I can get the Linux or OS X version of Pwn0r T0olbar or maybe the source? I want to be protekted from teh threts too!
To get this level of protection you should install Windows. These toolbars, you probably won't even have to install them. They come all by themselves.
You should indeed buy NiMH batteries (not NiCd). I've used Sony and several B-brands, all of them working okay. But beware that not only the batteries are important, but the charger can make a big difference as well. All these batteries suffer from memory-effects (even if they claim NiMH does not). After a while they seem to wear out. At one moment, you charge them, want to use them, and they stop working after a second or so. Then you need to discharge (refresh) them completely. In fact, you should have done this long before. Special rechargers offer the function to discharge them completely before charging. This discharge draws them empty completely.
I hope there is some kind of Psion 5-sized usb-keyboard. If those two could be combined in some kind of holder, I'm sold. (The Psion 5 has always been my favourite in size and usability, because of the excellent keyboard. I've used it for about five years, but then the display broke, and the replacement broke in less then a year.)
OSX 10.0, then, probably beats Vista. At any rate, if Apple decides it's better to release incremental versions every year or two, and the evidence supports that, are we to say it's unfair to Microsoft? Or do we tell them to get a better business model? Sorry, but OSX 10.0 was not really that usable. I've used it. But it had a good basis, and since than almost anything was a real improvement. This also meant that each new version was better finetuned than the previous version, especially up til 10.3. So the system became faster, and is probably still usable on old machines (G3).
Does it run on a penguin?
Win-win. Please don't contradict yourself!

So what if Microsoft would buy Redhat in the future, can Redhat now make it so that this patent will never be used, no matter what?
Even if they would have to release it, the iPhone is not out yet, so why would they release any code now? I bet they are still working on it.

I use a Sony charger, like the Sony BCG-34HRMF4 Super Quick Charger.
I read that Apple TV works without DRM, well the DVI signal to the TV/monitor is not encrypted. How does that fit into this picture?
This finally got their servers down! Thanks Slashdot!
(I've seen most of it, and it looks heavenly!)

"It" being sent back is not such a big problem. You being sent back along with it is maybe more unpleasant.
You had huge magnetic drums? And you like them?! In my days we had paper, and we liked it so much, we didn't even write on it.
