after asking the god of the internet why he is doing this... he said because ICANN. This is yet another sad example of ICANN simply trying to make more money and not really trying to do whats right for the internet. I am sick of them. The original TLD's aren't even used properly in the first place. complicating the system with new ones wont fix anything. I do like the idea of having one available for those sites who plan to provide mobile phone content. As it is you never know what sites will load on your phone until you try. I end up using google as a proxy for all my mobile phone browsing to avoid the endless string of error messages. I just feel that the .jobs thing is dumber than dumb. there are only a few sites out there that would really benefit from this and most of them will stick to their .com addies anyhow.

  18. oh god I can't read anymore on Embedded Gentoo? · · Score: 1, Interesting

I made the mistake of reading through the comments on this story. So far I have read the same compiling jokes as always... har har. Then I read the usual gentoo bashing comments... *rolls eyes* then I read I disturbing number of people defending gentoo with arguments that make no sense. I love gentoo. please please please to all you other gentooers dont make us look so dumb.

First I see the usual comments about how it makes no sense to use gentoo for embedded stuff because you don't need package management. Then I see the people defending gentoo for the blah blah features that make no difference for embedded devices.

Some developers will find this usefull others, will not. Some hobby geeks will compile x on an ipaq for fun, but normal people will cross compile on another machine.

The REAL advantage here is that somebody who is really good with portage will be able to dev complete systems for the embedded device very quickly and easily. The advantage here is completely different than the advantages gentoo on the desktop gives. The developer will (eventually) be able to wip up systems with a few commands rather than carefully assembling the parts, sounds like a good thing right? thought so.

  21. funny headlines on Judge Petitioned To Unseal SCO-IBM Court Records · · Score: 2, Funny

you know sometimes I get these funny images in my head. when I read this headline I had to picture a combination of two movie scenes. the first would be when they open the ark in indiana jones and the lost ark. the second would be the ghostbusters II scene when the Scoleri brothers come back for the judge.

as in: judge breaks the seal, evil spirits fly around the room causing peoples faces to melt, but then turning into a ghostly darl in the electric chair. The judge looks scared and says NO... not Darl SCOleri!!! I gave him the chair years ago! (judge's face melts from the evil influence of darl).

*sniff*... sorry I just get a little emotional at the notion of darl getting the electric chair.
