There is something stopping them. The fact that they are under contracts to the NHL teams they play for that they may only play for those teams in North America. The only players active in N.A. right now are unsigned free agents. The others are only legally able to play in Europe, or else they are open to legal trouble. If your boss told you tomorrow "Go home. You can't come to work here until the new terms of employment for Burger King are settled, would you consider yourself on strike? Get a freaking clue.

  15. Re:bah, read that s HD-TV on Xbox 2 to Adopt HD-DVD? · · Score: 1

The reason PS2 games can use DTS for digital surround sound but not Dolby AC-3 is due to a basic difference in the way the two systems work. a Dolby 5.1 decoder requires a lot of the processing to be done at the source (i.e. within the DVD player or PS2), while DTS processing is done strictly at the deoder, working from the PCM stream output. This is why, for a few years, DTS decoder-equipped home theater receivers cost 2x to 3x what the equivalent AC-3 only units did. In short, Dolby 5.1=more processor overhead in player/console, DTS=all sound processing in decoder.

I always felt the biggest problem with Electric Playground was their obvious system biases. I remember when they reviewed Mace:The Dark Age for N64. Both guys bagged on the control, the character balance and the A.I., then gave the game 8.0 out of 10! WTF? So every element of the game is crap, but it is 80% perfect? I never watched the show again after that.

No, it just isn't typical US-based stale, derivative game design. Microshaft also canned the new Oddworld game, after they pretty much bought OWI to do Munch's Oddysee and to talk shit about the PS2. Basically, if it doesn't look like a PC game, MS is afraid to publish it. No wonder the XBOX has failed to dominate the market the way they said it would. The people I know with XBOXes bought them just to mod them, and don't run ANY XBOX games.

It seemed like after the vastly over-rated Mario 64 every platformer had to be a 3-d scavenger hunt, wher collecting random crap was the point of the game. If I felt like wandering around grabbing debris from the ground, I'd volunteer for highway clean-up and save myself the $50 for the game.

A good, old-fashioned Streets of Rage/Final Fight beat-em-up with great artwork (borrowed from the King of Fighters games) and good music (Front Line Assembly, VNV Nation, Traci Lords, Yuzo Koshiro[taken from Streets of Rage]). There are even different mods for it with different characters, ie X-men, TMNT and Joe and Mac. Check it out.
