Ya, who wants to use a filesystem designed by an accussed murderer! WTF? Who cares? The source code is open, you can inspect it yourself to ensure that it won't murder you. Yeesh. The sad thing is that you're probably right:(
Your looking at the problem the wrong way. The PC is not going to make the console obsolete, it's the other way around! People can have a laptop and a console. The two combined will give you everything you need that a current PC can offer you. Don't forget that the Wii is going to support web browsing.
I've always bought desktop PCs because I'm into gaming, but since I got my 360, I felt it was too costly to keep my PC up to date. And I just can't be bothered to play games at my desk anymore. Instead, I'm going to buy a laptop (a macbook, now that I don't play games), and play games on my 360.
I have my hacked xbox for playing downloaded digital content on my TV too. Apple's iTV should fill in that gap nicely for the ordinary consumer when it's released.
Summary: Generalized PC is on the outs (not gone but less important), specialized devices (ipod, iTV, xbox 360) are in.
But doesn't Ubuntu require 192 MB of RAM? Do many win98 boxes have that much? If the machine has that much RAM, then the user is probably going to upgrade to XP anyways.
We need a lighter weight Linux people! Xubuntu maybe?
Wow, are you being sarcastic? You'd pay $200 just to add a node to a gigantic distributed computer? I think this is a nice feature for those who are already considering to buy it, but I doubt it'll turn haters into lovers like it did for you.
It looks like he just didn't turn it on first. I'm sure it's a common mistake. Some of those pictures look like they were arranged to make it looks like he was riding, then fell off, which probably isn't true.
I don't think the MPAA has weighed in on the net neutrality debate yet. I fail to see your point. You seem to have lumped all the companies that you don't like into one big pile.
With BT, anyone attached to a torrent can see the IP of everyone else. They don't need server logs to see who's downloading or sharing a torrent. Bit Torrent does not provide any anonymity nor privacy, unless it's with a private tracker. But even then, the authorities could still sign up.
In MS's defence, the xbox and 360 are somewhat innovative. Albeit, not as innovative as Ninetndo's 'wii', the 360 is one impressive consoles with a lot of firsts. It's integration with Live (Live is quite innovative IMO), is quite impressive; Nintendo and Sony are playing catch-up at the moment.
What you claim about the new testament being retranslated, and transcribed over the years is true. I'll disagree with you on the point about the old testament though. The five books of Moses, which make up the most important part of the old testament, are taken directly from the Hebrew Torah. The Torah has been transcribed flawlessly, not even a letter changed, for at LEAST 2000 years. The Dead Sea scrolls contain a full copy of the Torah, and it matches the current editions that we have exactly. The methods for transcribing the Torah are very strict, and leave no room for error. If you are reading a torah scroll, and find an error, it's a religious requirement to stop reading it, and replace the section with the error.
If it was possible for the Torah to be transcribed for 2000 years perfectly, who's to say it hasn't been transcribed perfectly since it was written? Jews believe that the words of the Torah are God's words, so any mistakes in transcribing it would be misrepresenting God's word, which is bad.
When Jews study Torah, they study each phrase, word, and letter, finding meaning everywhere possible, therefore no mistakes are allowed.
Whether the reader injects the meaning, or the meaning exists to be found, is anybody's guess.

Bandwidth and server maintenance costs too, albeit not nearly as much as DVD packaging/shipping. Or does it?
You cannot run it on a macbook, or any intel based mac. At least not yet.
Work is still ongoing: http://www.mactel-linux.org/
Too bad Apple doesn't help us open-source lovers as much as they helped MS with boot camp.
Reminds me of when Sony's 'mp3' players could only play ATRAC audio files. Also, the PS3 only plays Blu-ray, not HD-DVD, agnostic?

Quite the tragic ending

Because AAC is technically a superior format?
That is not cool, it's too soon man!
It might be easier if they just integrated the gecko rendering engine from Firefox into Windows, instead of using IE.
You can attribute the higher price to the R&D costs.
Why should a company invest in R&D? To get a return on investment!! (and to stay competitive)
Don't forget the $500-$2000 setup fee for people who don't have a computer.

On the same topic, I suggest Aldous Huxley's classic novel: Brave New World

If the poor can have the same luxuries of the rich, then what's the point of being rich?
Yup, AMD/ATI should just give up!
It was revived by DVD sales, not youtube, that's the difference here.
(Although you could probably thank the internet for spreading the word)
That's funny, he doesn't sound British...
Why is it that the British magazines are so superior to the American ones?
This goes for just about any type of magazine, be it Maxim, Linux Format, or Edge. The British magazines are of such a higher calibre, it's scary.
There must be a simple answer out there.

Another good movie with the same technology is Strange Days, I highly recommend it.
