  1. Australia? on Dell Aims for Gamers with XPS M1710 · · Score: 1

I've heard plenty of rave reviews on the XPS range, from reviewers and personal users alike, but what I want to know is, when will Dell bring the XPS range out in Australia.

I have their 389.20 SC model coupled with their 24" monitor for a media machine in the lounge but the built in video is awful. I modified a pci card to suitbut if I could get my paws on the XPS that would be so much better.

I don't think shopthestates for such a thing is appropriate. :(

Does that mean 'pirates' won't need an as-powerful machine to run the next version of Windows? ;)

but seriously, this will be as successful as their WGA attempt. It will frustrate legit windows owners more than it will put a dent on 'piracy'.

  5. Re:Blu Ray? on Another Sony Format Bites the Dust · · Score: 2, Interesting

Compact Flash yes, but you can't blame them for not backing the SD format when SD cards came out after memory stick.

I agree with you on the early md players not being able to playback mp3s. They shouldve made the md players capable of playing back mp3s along with atrac from the start. Also they made minidiscs capable of storing pc data but decided to make the format incompatible with md audio. So that weakened one advantage minidiscs could have had and improved their market share. by the time sony bought both these things to the general md format (hi md) people had moved on the flash memory and hd based players.

    sad.

There is still one area where the md format shines and that is in live recording. Dat is dead so maybe minidisc will take its place. Its the best format for stealth concert recordings and taping your own music practices.

    You mean these and these?

I'd like to see usb keys built into the cap of a pen. the cap will be twist off so it doesnt easily come loose and get lost. On the other end of the cap is a ring for the strap to go around so you can wear the pen/usb key around your neck. The usb connector goes on the other end of the cap so it goes inside top of the pen when not used, protecting it from dust and mishaps. It would be cool if somebody made something like that.

    Adam,
We our not part of the RIAA. We are a label that uses RED (though not exclusively) as a distributor, hence maybe that is why our name appears on the list. Still we've never signed anything with the RIAA. That being said, FAT WRECK CHORDS does believe in copyright and is against piracy.

Now on a side note, I hope you are running your computer on LINUX or some other open source software?
