  1. Re:Extremophiles on Phoenix Mars Lander Deploys Robotic Arm, Possibly Finds Ice · · Score: 1

"And nobody said that, just for known life."

Well known life is our only frame of reference here. We could make endless conjecture about how exotic life might be on other worlds, but we have to start from some basic sense of what life probably can or cannot survive in.

  2. Minor abiogenesis qualm on Why Life On Mars May Foretell Our Doom · · Score: 1

Uh, what about all life on Earth?

  3. Best solution: no public terminals on Best Way To Avoid Keyloggers On Public Terminals? · · Score: 1

Bring a laptop or other Internet-capable portable device with you, and don't use public terminals. This seems the only surefire way to avoid keylogging and other security issues. If you're so worried about someone stealing your information through what is probably a pretty rare method, don't use the damn things.

  5. Breaking News! on Heavily Discounted Zune Outpacing iPod Sales · · Score: 1

Breaking news! The heavily-discounted Zune is currently the #9 best-selling MP3 player on Amazon, behind only the 4GB iPod nano (silver), 8GB iPod nano (black), SanDisk Sansa M240 1GB (silver), 80GB iPod classic (black), 16GB iPod touch, 8GB iPod touch, iPod shuffle (purple) and iPod shuffle (silver)! Yes, Microsoft is indeed a true competitor in the MP3 player market. Or maybe it shouldn't be considered article-worthy to talk about a top-ten chart that fluctuates so wildly. Based on what I'm seeing here, if the friggin' shuffle is outselling the Zune, things aren't looking too good for Microsoft. I'm sure the reality is that they're probably doing perfectly fine, but there's no need to sensationalize things like this.

My iPod does that a lot too, but that mostly has to do with me really liking Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2 and choosing it as everyday listening material.

  13. Re:Why iTunes? on Final Fantasy Music on iTunes · · Score: 1

Apple might have put big money down for exclusive selling rights. Or maybe Square-Enix opted for iTunes because it's a successful and well-known online music store that they'd like to be associated with.

No matter what the reason is, I only hope it paves the way for other video game soundtrack releases. Katamari Damacy, anyone?

  18. Re:iTunes on Multi-Room Wireless Sound System? · · Score: 1

The one thing that iTunes lacks that annoys me is the ability to remotely control another copy of iTunes (like on the server) from my laptop. I actually have a script to do this through the shell, but I'd really like to be doing it through the iTunes interface.

I use Apple Remote Desktop to satisfy this need by controlling the music computer's desktop remotely, but you're probably looking for something cheaper / PC-friendly. You could probably set up the computer for VNC.
