I just hope they enforce certain requirements on the hardware... The nice thing about consoles has always been that each one is more or less identical, which means no time is needed to test bugs for different hardware options and they can be optimized to levels which would be impractical, if not impossible, to support on multiple platforms.
In City of Heroes, they just made it so that powers work differently in PvP than they do in PvE. Not so differently as to require re-learning them, just tweaking how effective they are and such.
Seriously, nothing at all unusual about this. All corporations exist for one purpose and one purpose only, to make money. Microsoft can make more money by falling into line (quietly, at least, it's entirely possible the negative publicity from this might make it more lucrative to rescind this policy, but it's still about money) than championing the virtues its home country [claims to] stand for.
Microsoft is no different from any other corporation. Microsoft == Apple == Google == Wal-Mart == TimeWarner == Clear Channel, the only difference between any of them is a question of scale. The primary motivator of each is money, never think otherwise.
Criticizing Microsoft for this is like criticizing water for conforming to the shape of its container.
I'd be very, very surprised if anyone imported games to save money (at least in the US)... Generally most importers charge at least $60 and more often at least $70 for a game that would cost $50 or less in the states... I spent $60 to get Phantom Dust from Japan when there was no indication it might ever come here, and then I just found out it's coming to the US and for only $20. x_x
It takes a bit of savvy to be able to mod a console. It doesn't take any at all to pay someone to, or have a friend do it.
That said, modding a console is a pretty cool experience... I modded my own XBox (albeit with a solderless chip) and it was fun. I also transplanted the guts of my Dreamcast into a different body shell.
I'm all for MS's policy. It's my understanding that companies can't release patches via Xbox live which don't include new content (i.e. you can't just release a patch that fixes things). It holds the company accountable to sending out a finished product (or getting tanked in reviews), rather than just figuring they'll release a patch in a couple months.
Ignore all the pettiness and boring parts of all those fantasy RPGs and just have fun. No uber items to collect, no spawns worth camping... Anyone can have a good character and all they have to do is play normally and advance their character.
You know, considering the fact that most if not all of the adult swim shows could be done in Flash and noone would be any the wiser, I wonder what the graphics on these upcoming games will be... Hopefully they'll stick to 2D... Actually, I think a 3D game with well-animated, high-resolution 2D sprites could be very enjoyable.
Hey, I used to work at the Beverly office. Quality assurance tester. It was my dream job. Even on the bad days it was good. I helped test Terminator 3: War of the Machines (and trust me when I say that despite its crappiness, it was a lot worse when we had it... not that it would have been released had the choice been up to us) among other things.
Yeah, and 12/19/03, 6 days before Xmas, without warning they let all the temps go, which made up about 40 of the 60 or so testers there. They fired the rest a couple weeks later.
Well, how can they review it if the wireless doesn't work?:p "On the bright side, it feels squishy, and I think it would be safe to assume that if the console was receiving signals it would be getting them accurately and instantly."
I got the Xbox one, Ultramix, in November of 2003 and the official pad it came with has worked fine. I'm a heavy guy, too, 270-280 lbs (don't weight myself often). The key is to make sure you've got a hard surface under the mat (I use one of those mats made for using office chairs on a carpet) and not to wear shoes. I usually dance with socks on, or bare feet.
Tell me about it! I'm so proud of what I've managed to do with it... I show it to friends, who know what the Xbox is normally capable of, and I get, "Oh. Cool. Wanna play Halo 2?"
Didn't have Direct X 9 installed. You always sorta take Direct X for granted, seems like everything installs it that needs it... But I got a new computer recently and I guess City of Heroes, the only game I've played of late, doesn't need it.
Tried installing this... Said it was missing mss32.dll, found the dll on google and downloaded it, then it was unable to find something in ddraw.dll, so I downloaded ddraw.dll, then it said it couldn't find something in kernel32.dll, and when I downloaded that and put it in the directory, it didn't fix the error.
Any ideas?
On a different note, how versatile is the tool? Is it like Heromachine or City of Heroes, or is it just a small step up from the horrible character creator for EQ? I ask because I'm wondering about using this to make pictures of characters for D&D.
Livejournal went down for a bit over 1 day, through no fault of their own (their host lost all power, including backup, and most of the downtime was spent restarting and getting up to speed with over 100 servers) and they gave all paid members 2 free weeks.
That they have to try and prove that Linux can be a gaming machine is really just proof that it's not.
Seriously, the Linux community needs to get their priorities straight. Get a computer with Linux onto it in Best Buy and Circuit City, and actually get the thing to sell, then move on from there./Windows user, and proud of it
Give your sim a copy of the Sims, or some random MMORPG, and watch them sit around all day playing it and ignoring their friends and loved ones. You can train your sim to make his sims fall in love and form a functional family-- or you can make him an evil bastard that locks them in a room until they pee themselves! Oh, what fun!

*coughNeverwinterNightscough*
(never mind the countless other single player D&D games)
Tia Carrere.

Dude, that's total BS. Of course the government could make money off of MJ if it was legalized, it would be taxed just like cigarettes or alcohol.
I think I remember hearing about that. I know Capcom vs. SNK 2 has to download something from Xbox Live before it'll work online, too.
I never said that they were doing a good job enforcing the policy, just that I agree with the policy.

My thoughts exactly.
Why don't they just play City of Heroes?
Ignore all the pettiness and boring parts of all those fantasy RPGs and just have fun. No uber items to collect, no spawns worth camping... Anyone can have a good character and all they have to do is play normally and advance their character.
Wow. I guessed as much... but I'm surprised it's actually true.

AFAIK, there was only accounting and such in the building aside from QA. I'm positive not a single line of code was written there.

Burn in hell, Atari, burn in hell.

What pad are you using?

they're strangely unimpressed
Tell me about it! I'm so proud of what I've managed to do with it... I show it to friends, who know what the Xbox is normally capable of, and I get, "Oh. Cool. Wanna play Halo 2?"
Sorry, my bad. I'm a moron.

Dear Darwin.
I'm surprised they haven't made Sims Sims.
