Just so you know, it's really not that hot an idea to leave the case open. I've seen systems get hotter with a desk fan cooling them purely down to the dust build-up from having the side off. Not that we haven't all tried it:)
IE still is based on Mosaic. That never changed. The Mosaic in IE isn't really the problem though, it's the MS in IE.
But yes, as the other reply in this thread states, MS could totally cripple the browser so that your computer runs at a snail's pace when you're browsing and you can't do anything about it. So long as the browser is the default with Windows, it will still stay in the majority.

He's right, there's nothing quite as refreshign as standing still for 10 minutes turning to shoot lights. Screw health drinks, it's how I start every day!
RFID lets me get in and out of my workplace by waving my wallet around next to the door. When it's coffin-shaped with a black rose on it, any excuse to wave it around is good with me!
How about getting my FOS burners onto Windows? Or maybe there's a live distro that can do it instead? I'm tired of having to use Nero or ECDC when I'm maintaining my parents' machines.
So hang on, I pay $200 for something that is only a mouse? How is this any better than my Cherry keyboard that I picked up at a car boot sale for £5? Even bought new, it's cheaper than the Rollermouse and is a full keyboard.
Whilst the idea of having a browser that flips between different rendering engines so I can have all my windows open in one session (with multiple tabs, of course) has appealed to me for some time (I love the speed of Gecko, but the insecurity and poor standards compliance of MS make me gip), why did it have to be built into the daftest UI conceived?
I think what would be great would be a clone of the Firefox UI, minus the XUL, with the ability to flip between as many rendering engines as are reasonably available on the host platform. So, say, Gecko and khtml on Linux, Gecko and mshtml on Windows, and Gecko and Safari (can Safari's engine be embedded? I don't know) on OSX. If I had the skills, I'd do it myself:/
I can take a 10 minute trip into town, buy any CD I want (or if I was feeling particularly lazy, buy a whole load together on eg. play.com) and do whatever the hell I like with it. I manage my own rights.
It seems that every trecky (and even some non-treckies) have their pet-hate show in the series. For most it's DS9 or Voy, but for me, it's Enterprise. From the very beginning it simply seemed tainted to me with bad continuity. Like it just sat there and laughed at the rest of the ST universe.
DS9 felt grand with it's Dominion war, and I enjoyed Voy simply for the exploration factor, something that had been lacking in ST since, well, TOS. But Enterprise just took all that and threw it out of the window. It was like it never happened for the franchise.
If a home user has the sense to still run Windows 2000, how likely is it that they run IE?
I do, however, hope that nobody at my workplace sees this as a great "opportunity" to "upgrade" to XP.
Ahh, yeah, nothing like catching those extra frames above the competition ;) Well played my man.

Haven't we got past this by now? Surely it should now be What Ever Happened to "What Eever Happened to Virtual Reality?"?

Cool, I didn't know anything about the Sharp tech. and was wondering whetehr that was how these screens worked, evidently not :)
I have 3 mod points. I should be able to mod the whole day "Redundant".
That what /. considers an April Fools, I would actually consider? Having said that, I plan to cut out the middle woman, and just sell my sperm.
Read that as "Open source is currently in, we need some of that".
I can't help thinking that someone considers WiX a casualty of war.

I'll have my SCO on the rocks shaken, not stirred...

A computer is a tool, not a toy...
Interestingly enough, people had similar complaints in regards to the 386.

I can't even watch BSG. Seeing what's being done in the name of the original is horrifying.
This one got lifted off Hack a Day *the same day*...
Why do I even read /. anymore? I get half the stories several days earlier from Hack a Day.
Damn that made me laugh.
Y'know, you don't *have* to read them.
Actually, they were planning on never ever changing their prices, not ever. If they do, you should sue! Oh hell yes.
Here's a link to the only cool thing there.
Why didn't Forbes just shit on my face instead of paying somebody to make that website? For more efficient in causing me misery.
