    think international : in france, when you buy something, you own it . If some corporation brick it, then they are the criminal. so that system must be at least reversible. (and as long as i have a license, i can legally circuvent any encryption scheme)

    what was before universe, what is after?
    uh, you know but time is created by matter, so "before" the universe there was no matter and as such no time.
    so "what was before ?" isn't a valid question.
    And science doesn't prove anything : a scientific method is to observe something, deduce a theory from your observations then you try to disprove it by testing the consequences of that theory.

    since you judge all frenchs, i guess you've met all of us, but i don't remember it ...

    i won't say that France is greater than US but only that we've just a different way of thinking and it is subject at misinterpretation.
    oh, and English words aren't outlawed in advertising, you have just an obligation to explain them since the national language is French. (i still think it's stupid but i've a english level way better than most frenchs)

    not really : since the heads cannot write exactly in the same position twice in a row, the old data will still be readable. Of course, you will need a separate reading mecanism with the precision necessary to read it.

    you should punish it only if you caught him trying to go away.

    the same interest as studying how civilisation rise and fall on Earth : studying how a whole intelligent specy rise (but will those stupid hu-mans fall ? what fate belong to ours almost-lovely hairless monkeys ? stay tuned and come back next millenium for our new reality show "When monkeys talk" ! )

    ( or studying how intelligence can emerge. or even looking for a new basic approach to come technology ( or maths [...]))

    i'm not sure firefox is really using all that memory : i'm "playing" with a old p200 32MB of RAM, XFCE and firefox 1.0.7 (from a debian testing repository). Of course a lightweight browser like dillo work fast (there is about 800k of free memory when i've reached XFCE) but firefox is still usable, it only use swap when loading firefox itself or opening a new tab ...
    and the computer has only about 75MB of swap : firefox should die on startup or use all available ressources.

    Actually theses persons can't adjust to living in France because the governement assign less and less budget to help their integration. so the HLM (low income appartements) are now more or less ghettos allowing the immigrants to keep their lifestyle ( and denying them a real integration ).
    Thoses riots are actually the result of the current governement decisions ( and of a real lack of respect from one politician : where does have egality and fraternity gone ?)
    (or i see it a such : i'm too 'near' of the events to clearly see the big picture)

    Chicken/Egg problem.
    Unless Valve and Blizzard start to allow linux port (remember freecraft ?) or Linux become a viable market, the situation won't change.
    (Yes, i still fire up the windows box to play but the price to keep up with today requirements make me do it less often)
    I think lot of people don't even know how to install software, then a cheap linux box with games included would do the trick (until their kids want to buy counterstrike (let it die dammit :p) but then they would most likely complain to the store, forcing publishers to recognize the linux games market ;))

    you find a lot of linux games when you search for it.

    A really awful governement.
    ( Chirac was elected with a >80% score but he didn't understand why, and still think it was because unrealistics promises were the way to go.
    The good side of it is that (some) French did learn that voting is an important thing)

    500 $ for a silent computer was cheap enough for me
    And they include games with it (marble madness gold and nanosaure 2 : not mainstream but enough to play)
    As for "decent" games, i still can use my gamecube or my "gaming only" PC (loud as hell but used at most once per week)
    (As for the rich part : i'm still unemployed)
    It's not perfect but it beat my old linux box ...for nearly the same price
