When these scales become common and moderately affordable, drug dealers are going to love this. They will finally be able to measure their drugs right down the the very crystal, ensuring that not a single zeptadollar gets wasted.
I apologize to Zonk. I also think Zonk is too similar to Zork, and that game was boring. Probably just childhood trauma seeping through into my everyday life.:(
Zonk, you're wrong as usual. The HTML formatting isn't a birthday present, it's been there for at least a week. Couple this with your "news" about space games, and I'm very dissapointed in your editing skills.
And we all know girls only like boyfriends with skills.
Torrents for the OC usually reach about 2000/4000. The big TV shows right now get huge stats like that. Desperate Housewives, Lost, heck, even the Daily Show all typically do 500/1300 or so.
That is such an American-centric view that I feel compelled to comment. Remove the "USA! USA!" from your comment for a second. A minor fraction of the world (5% if google is right) uses a temperature scale. Fine. Now, should the other 95% need an excuse to not know that 5%? I mean seriously, can you not put aside your patriotism and realize that just because the good ol' US of A uses it doesn't mean everyone else should be obliged to use it? If I set up a temperature scale based on how long it takes a lamp to reach a certain temperature, would I be justified in saying "Just because we should switch doesn't give people an excuse to not know how we currently do things." Think about that for a second.
I'm still waiting for Rainboy Six 9. But more to the point, you're right in your argument that these people are literary hacks.
I read a couple of them and I was left thinking about stuff outside of the game. Stuff like morals, reality vs. perception, online personas, and all that sort of stuff.
**RANT TO BEGIN** This sort of "journalism" is useless. These stories would better serve as posts on a website as part of a conversation rather than a serious discussion about philosophical aspects of a game. If I'm reading a review or something, I want it to follow a format roughly akin to this: Discuss graphics, audio, level design, length of game, etc. A small paragraph telling me something about the game that I can't get from the above, ie, that Katamari Damacy with it's simple graphics, control, level design, and audio, is actually a very revolutionary idea.
I do NOT want some wanna-be literary icon telling me about the perils of gaming, or the moral/philosophical/legal aspects surrounding it. I want to know if the game is worth my money, and if it is, why?
This whole list is insulting as the articles presented do not deal with video games at all. Let me clear this up: these articles do not deal with video games. These articles deal with philosophical issues, moral issues, and others, as pertains to _________. What exactly is _________? How about... chat rooms? Or libraries? Maybe it's about prostitution. Hell, __________ could be school, work, the city, politics, any number of unrelated things. Dropping video games in the __________ does not make them "New Gaming Journalists", it makes them pretentious hacks who can't see games for what they are. *** END RANT ***
Now, I know those definitions are techincally correct, but who thinks these ideas are easily applicable? I mean, the point of having a definition is to be able to calibrate everything else, right? So how on earth is a watch manufacturer or repair person going to say "alright, the cesium atom vibrated 9,192,631,769... 9,192,631,770 times. That's a second."
Is there actually a method of directly using these definitions?
Insightful is sometimes used to give a person a karma bonus due to the fact that/. doesn't award karma for "Funny". Thus, sometimes funny posts will have insightful or informative, rewarding the poster.
Boy, counting those ^H's must have been irritating. And the worst part? They don't even match up! Your comment would read "HickFirefly has already been done." Jeepers.
Unless there's some mystical property of the ^H that I'm missing. Does that thing have a name btw?
"In this case, isn't Slashdot acting as the spammer ? I define 'spamming' as sending out unsolicited emails/mails ; This is just one of the millions trying to 'game the system'."
Sure, if by spam you mean a website that you actively go to. Did/. send you an email telling you to go to his blog, or was it the other way around, and you approached/. for the link? Seems to me/. is not the spammer in this case.
Me and my friends have discussed this at length too. A few improvements that WE figured out:
Realistic physics (you already mentioned this). This could be negative though. If I'm running from the cops, I want some sort of arcade like physics to enhance the experience. There's something about driving slow (as most realistic cars are) that isn't fun.
Replay mode. This could be amazing because there's been a lot of stuff that I wish I had a video of. Add a director's mode for some truly stunning replays and you're good to go.
Other things would include custom cameras, good vs. evil maybe, and other "improvements" to game play. This game is already pretty amazing, so I'm wondering where the next one takes us. Should be fun.

How ironic then, that your comment got modded +5 insightful.
I apologize to Zonk. I also think Zonk is too similar to Zork, and that game was boring. Probably just childhood trauma seeping through into my everyday life. :(

When that happens, only criminals will beat games. I'm worried.

Oh. Ok :)
Actually, I'm pretty sure that only gets you as far as ?????...

Man I love italics!

Oh god my eyes!!! That site's design is frickin awful!
The poster.
People using 1.0 that don't know about the bugs? Telling them that there's an update to protect them?
Funny, I got mine a few days earlier from this really nice guy on the street. I think it was broken though... it was all French.
My head asplode.

1. Imagine a beowulf cluster of people complaining about /. cliches.
2. ???
3. Profit!

Fix this

I hate to be a grammar nazi, but did you by chance mean to say "teh cool"?
Right on par with eye gouging and an acid bath. Seriously, the game was THAT fun.
