Many of the developers for SWG were devs on Ultima Online, and if you can remember what their patching situation was like, there was simply no end to horrible, game-breaking bugs. Every patch resulted in new, bad bugs. Balance was never achieved. SWG is exactly the same, I believe because the developers are making the exact same mistakes with it that they made with UO years ago.
SWG has one of the worst track records of any mmorpg in terms of bugs and balance. Patch days invariably upset the current balance of the game, skewing the ruleset towards a new group with every publish. The big bugs never get fixed; the little bugs are too plentiful to be noticed when fixed. The game is forsaken.
Yeah, but it's far easier to just talk about how stupid and backwards Americans are. Making comments like that also immediately counts you as one of the intellectual elite, as well, and mod points will flow like water.
The post you replied to is certainly childish in its praise for Halo 2 (that game really is mediocre), but your own post is ludicrous... did you actually refer to the X-Box as a failed console?
Damn, dude, what does it take for a console to be considered successful?
EverQuest 2 was used by NVidia in a similar fashion to ATI's use of Half-Life 2. While there weren't any vouchers, NVidia was doing a lot of advertising of EQ2, and, in return, EQ2 got the splash screen saying that NVidia is the "way it's meant to be played" or something along those lines.
The hardware and software manufacturers no longer even try to pretend that they aren't in cahoots. They know they drive each others' sales.
"If people had put even half the same effort into using real standards that work on multiple platforms we might be seeing much more interesting and innovative games now."
While I, too, would like to see OpenGL/SDL utilized for compatibility's sake, I fail to see how it would help developers create much more interesting and innovative games.
Well, "irritating menus" kind of force you to spend time on them. Case in point: Simpsons season DVDs. You must press "enter" four fucking times to get past a pointless graphic, just to get to the main menu.
A menu should function, not spend half a minute rotating shapes or layering images from the movie on top of each other.
How are these two interfaces similar at all? I don't see how they're remarkably like each other. One's a panel with four directions, one is a wheel with two directions and four buttons. What the hell is remarkably alike?
"But ofcourse, it is much easier to make a smart ass remark when faced with evidence contrary to one's beliefs."
Likewise, it is much easier for a billionaire to make massive donations than it is for you or me. If Bill was a decent human being, he wouldn't be trying to buy business-friendly laws in the EU. If he were a decent human being, he would be able to see past his money long enough to use his billions to enact real, lasting social change. Has he done that?
"Almost everybody who games and has an LCD has a 17" lcd."
And what exactly do you use to base this assumption on?
Oh, I'm sure that this being Slashdot, he spent hours of his time researching sales data for various demographics and then consulted with his local university's statistics department in order to be sure that the information fits with his hypothesis.
Especially the freedoms we Americans don't have.

And how do you know that the child won't receive appropriate care?
Flamebait?
The AC has a good point.

FYI, I don't even own an X-Box, you puerile buffoon.
Tell that to Microsoft after the X-Box 360 makes them a veritable shitload.
They're a player in one of the biggest entertainment markets now. They weren't before. That's a massive success.

I can't imagine anything new taking off without a suitable suite of applications for the most common applications, at the very least.

[obligatory]
Yeah, well some of us don't keep up with the latest news and actually appreciate the fact that Slashdot is usually behind other media outlets.
He never said he read the article.
So not only are you using a tired old joke that should never be rewarded with positive modding; you are also lacking in reading comprehension.
I'm sure that your insightful, well-argued letter is going to change their minds right quick.

I must say, you've forged an impenetrable wall of logic which I dare not dispute.
And I present to you "Jorkapp," Exhibit A - definitive proof that Slashdotters' brains do not possess the capacity for humor.
What?

Hell no.

You have absolutely no clue.
Um, he's the well known "phrusa troll" that usually only posts in China-related stories.
Sometimes, though, he interjects his posts into unrelated articles.
Only if his lucky? Only if his lucky what?
Find me a creationist who thinks the earth is any older than a few thousand years old...
Nor is quality quailty.
Get it right.
