  1. The solutions of solutions on Combating Harassing Use of Mosquito Noise Device? · · Score: 2, Interesting

If war is what he wants, war is what he will get! This is sure to drive him more nuts then the mosquitoes from his little ultra violet toy... Which by the way is about 5 times as costly as my solution. Use with extreme caution... The device I speak of is called "sonic nausea". This is the blurb from their site: "Sonic Nausea is a small electronic device which can really turn one's stomach. It generates a unique combination of ultra-high frequency sound waves which soon leads most in its vicinity to queasiness. It can also cause headaches, intense irritation, sweating, imbalance, nausea, or even vomiting. Hiding this device in your inconsiderate neighbors house might put an end to their late night parties. The abusive bureaucrat's office, the executive lunchroom... the possibilities are endless for that small portion of inventive payback. The unique soundwave characteristics make directional source determination difficult. Powered by one 9-volt battery (not included). For extended run time two AA batteries in a battery pack with transistor clips (available from most electronics stores) can be used instead. Use with discretion." Only $49.99!!! - http://www.telstarone.com/cs_sonic_nausea.htm If you do go with this method, please post a follow up or pictures :)

Maybe they head the local library to check their email between shifts. Do you think they send out spam? I bet if you went on monster you could find a slew of prostitutes (maybe the AOL member directory is a better place to look).

Other retail titles include: demo versions of GTA5, Halo3 and GrandTourismo95, which are scheduled for release by summer of 2006.

Isn't the whole XBOX360 release starting to sound like the Vista release? Just a flashy (better graphic engine) version of the original Xbox/Windows XP.

I personally use an old version of AIM because I hate the new bulky version with all the stupid games and junk. Every time I click for someone's info I accidentally click that send a greeting crap. If anyone could just into the industry and make a presence it is google. They dont need to put ads in the client itself. Look at the desktop search, theres no ads in there. Theres so many neat features they could add that would not weigh down the client either. Many people have mentioned logging, with access from anywhere. Well if this was web based it can easily have some text relevant ads on it. If they made a web version of the IM client, they could do the same. Theres no positive effect of google making a cross platform instant messenger that is in use with there competition. Why would google help Microsoft or AOL? Theres no benefit from it. They would develop there own protocol. All the geeks and techies would download it and try it. I would surely love a client that isnt full of crap. Google could also sell corp instant messengers. There huge money to be made in that industry. Integrate IM with gmail and blogger and you control the way people communicate.

I spent 3 months working for a medium sized business (popular enough that I cant mention it). The company has several offices and about 500 employees, 300 employees that use computers on a day to day basis. The IT department consists of about 8 people. What did I learn? One of the poorest setups I have seen. I would say they are lucky the system runs on a day to day basis. I will give them some credit, they hired a new guy to run the department just before they hired me. He is making changes in the right direction. But im very suprised that a company like this would be so poorly setup. Like many other interns I did a lot of sitting around doing nothing. Played on the internet. But when I was needed I provided more value then they were expecting I think (should have paid me more!). Overall a good experience. I learned what not to do and def picked up a few things from the seasoned staff.

  15. My Thoughts on Microsoft to Fight Crime With Spammer's Millions · · Score: 3, Insightful

There's a whole lot of back and forth going on here. The only thing everyone can agree on is that the spammer deserved the fine. Now everyone wants to know why Microsoft is entitled to that fine? I personally believe they are entitled to it. First and most obvious they are the ones that created the law suit and did the actual suing. Microsoft isn't a government agency, what they win shouldn't be stripped from them. In all honesty if Microsoft didn't sue this guy, he would probably still be spamming. In which case no one is better off. Secondly anyone and everyone can sue. I know I'm going to get shit about how the American legal system sucks and blah blah blah. But that's a perk/pitfall of living in this country. As far as Microsoft donating the money, it's a brilliant move from a business standpoint. As mentioned earlier the cost of an advertising campaign would far exceed that of the $5m donation. The donation created goodwill and great PR. It's almost impossible to put a price on goodwill. People need to stop looking at Microsoft (and other corporations) as a public service. These companies exist to make money. Period. Microsoft did a good thing, they are the heroes here. They are the only ones who stood up against this guy and dished out the cash to do it. Yes the Million bucks in legal fees is pocket change to them. But I don't see anyone else willing to anti up. Plus if you really wanted an argument to show they are directly affected. They own an email service. I'm sure millions of this guys email has gone through there servers at some point, costing them money and inconveniencing clients. Congratulations Microsoft on your victory!
