At the time there was 2 NES packages you could buy.
The Big one with R.O.B., the light gun, Duck hunt, and Gyromite which was $150.
The other just included Super Mario Bros and was only $80.
I know this because I bought my NES when they first came out.
I didn't find the robot or light gun to be worth the extra money considering that there wasn't squat for games at launch that supported either of them.
Plus, as I tried to explain to my father, it was cheaper to buy the $80 version and then get the other accessories separately.
An alien canvasser had come along and couldn't find the windshield wiper and just shoved its flyers for interstellar satelite tv which read "A googleplex of channels for only 9999.99/cycle!" whereever it could find a spot...
yeah I miss the old days of mudding. My personal favorite was Looneymud it was something totally unconventional compared to other muds which were usually D&D based. This MUD was more based on television, cartoons, and movies. It was a place where you could encounter just about anything, whether it be Bert and Ernie or Darth Vader. I would spend hours exploring its intricaces. I check in now and then and it is still up after all these years, just not as busy. If you are looking for a place to kill a lot of time and some very strange mobs, check it out sometime.:-)
Please read what I have to say before you mod me offtopic....
This whole thing reminds me of how M$ originally got Apple. They come along offering to make software for their hardware just to get a good peek inside and then take all the info they need and then use it to make a competing product.
GameMaker is an excellent tool for learning about making your own games. It handles all of the low level things like graphics and audio for you so you concentrate on actually designing the game. It was mainly for learning 2D programming, but with the most recent release, Mark Overmars added some 3D functionality and its quite amazing what people have done with it. It is also quite cheap shareware (about $20 or so) and you can still use most of the functions using the free version.
Would they also run on one of those "10-in-1" joysticks that emulate 2600 games?
If so, that would be excellent!
I wonder how hard would it be to license the hardware for one of these little buggers.
This could become a new outlet for homebrewed games to enter the retail market.
I guess theres also the other possibility of someone just hacking one of those joysticks to take a memory card or something for some personal gaming...
had a lot more tenticles, they were shaped slightly differently and tended to chase after the female characters (and sometimes Bernard)relentlessly....
Seriously I wonder how good the scanning is- some people's fingers have a layer of crust(skin, due to labour work such as farming or handling) that is pretty tough. Could the device scan through a layer of hardden skin?
I would think that most Slashdotters have that crust on at least one of their hands due to lack of female companionship.;-)
If they are buying them to eliminate a big spyware creator, wouldn't that cause a new business model for spyware startups to open up? Someone could just start up a spyware company that annoys people enough that M$ would just buy them out.
1. Startup new Spyware company 2. Annoy users until Microsoft buys them out 3. Profit!
I don't find cable tv or satelite for that matter to be worth the extra money as I never get the amount (in hours) of entertainment as I have to spend (in hours) of work to earn the money to pay for it. There just isn't enough programming on cable/satelite to justify the high costs. If I want to watch a movie, I will either rent it or go see it at the theatres. Besides, I feel like I am already paying for the analog tv because of all of the commercials I have to sit through and I do actually buy some of those products.
This is a good thing. If these players are able to read CDs and regular DVDs as well, I could easily see this becoming a new platform for homebrewed games. Which would be a huge boon for small time indy game makers.:-)
This makes me wonder if the US goverment would see this as a security risk as it gives such detailed info that terrorists could use against them. It wouldn't suprise me if this gets shut down for that reason.
Perhaps, but even with this device you would not have "essentially unlimited O2". The device requires a battery to operate, and when the battery runs out of juice, you stop getting air.
Just put a little dynamo on it so you can recharge the battery somewhat in an emergency.:)
If the games will run through recompilation, here is what I think they could do.
They will probably have it limited to those who buy the more expensive version of the 360 with the hard drive and combined with XBox Live, download the recompiled executable to run off the hard drive while reading the data from the CD/DVD.
Geez, Think how grumpy he must be now.. :P
That price is a bit off...

I'd rather see some sort of database of all videogames ever made.
Is there something out there like this on the internet. Sorta like imdb but for videogames?
Vista Cruiser

I kept getting bombarded by a near lethal dose of popupium....
I guess I'll need to inoculate myself with a little firefoxium...
Isn't that more like a FPS?
I remember lynx. :-)
Surfing via dialup was/is sooo much faster going text only.
Actually, now and then I switch to that mode in the latest version of Opera just for a little nostalga.
I guess there is also the highly improbable possibility that these were time travelers....
I always seem to wonder that every time we find evidence of a human's presence in an odd era.
The evidence usually seems to point to one or two people instead a whole civilization or even a small tribe/family.
*Shrug*

Well, you COULD always get an audio splitter or better yet, an audio switcher. :-)
I seem to have that symptom, but only when my hand is in contact with my special place..

That fake butter crap is called 'WHIRL'.
:P
Believe it or not, but the pizza place I used to work at put that junk on their bread sticks and their garlic bread.
This must be Bill's response to the fact that even a monkey could hack into an unpatched Windows box. ;)
