  1. What will really force people to upgrade.... on Bulky System Requirements for Windows Vista · · Score: 1

What will really force people to upgrade is productivity software (like Office/Adobe/etc). It has already happened to me several times. I want to upgrade to the latest version of some spiffy software (like Poser 6 for example) which says my hardware config is more than enough to run it, but it requires Windows XP. :-/

Microsoft controls some of the biggest (most used) productivity software out there (Office) and they will use it to force people to upgrade the OS as well. They have been doing it since Windows 95 and will continue to do it. That is their business model.

    1. Change file formats with Office upgrade

    2. Force people to upgrade Office for compatibility with other people who have upgraded

    3. Force people to upgrade Windows to run upgraded Office.

  3. Mario Paint and Gameboy Camera on DS Game Port Wishlist · · Score: 1

Nintendo really needs to make some sort of hybrid of these two items.

I think it would be a blast taking pictures of people/things and then drawing stuff on them like you can with photoshop and then transmitting them to other DS owners in the area.

Also, they could use the camera/wireless to do video chat. It would be like having a video walkie talkie. :-)

Could this be what is coming next from Intel?

I remember a time when there was some basic antivirus program in the BIOS of my old 486. I think it was called MWAV.

So I guess its possible to do it again, it'll just take a heck of a lot more storage space though.

  9. Zip Files on Windows ME and beyond on New Winzip in the Works · · Score: 1

Why would I want to install WinZip?

Windows has supported Zip files since Windows ME.

Heck, it opens them up like regular folders and lets you view/open items inside as well as cut/copy/paste to and from them.

I'm surprised that Winzip hasn't gone after Microsoft for anti-trust issues.

If you want to develop for Windoze, I'd still would recommend GameMaker by Mark Overmars.

Its easy to use and quite powerful. 2D games are a breeze to make and since version 6, you can now make 3D games as well.

The GML programming language is very simular to object oriented C so you can make your games as complex as you would like to.

The forums are also a great resource for people just getting started.

  11. Shouldn't it be more like Street Fighter 10? on Capcom May Be Prepping Street Fighter 4 · · Score: 2, Insightful

I mean, how many variations have they had of each "sequel"?

Do we really need another version of the old Street Fighter series?

Personally, I'd rather see them get a new license to some other characters to let us play with.

Since they already did Marvel, how about DC or maybe Image comic's characters?

Also, it would be neat if they licensed some Anime characters to put in a megamix or sorts.

    DBZ vs Capcom anyone?

Duck Hunt 2- This time you can shoot the giggling dog.

Actually, in the arcade version of duck hunt if you made it far enough, the dog would start to jump up at the ducks from the brush. You could actually shoot him (would cost you the round) and then it show him hobbling along with a bunch of bandages on him. I think he would also wave his fist at you too. I was pretty disappointed that the home version didn't have that 'feature'.

No, this isn't an ad. But I would like to mention that some companies will give you the training tools and let you take the tests for free.

Officeteam (a Robert Half company / Temp agency) offers free certifications. The only catch is if you fail, you have to wait a year to be able to retake the test (if you want to take it for free that is). I really wish I had taken the time to get a bunch of these completed while I was working for them, but I ended up getting a better job anyway and didn't need the certs after all.

I miss light gun games. The only place you can find them is arcades/movie theatres/etc, if you are lucky.

However, they are so expensive to play at those places. I really would like to see some home games again.

I hope with the Nintendo Revolution, they will bring back the Zapper to play with some of those classic games like Gumshoe, Hogan's Alley, Wild Gunman, and Duckhunt. :-)

That's why I have trouble with old books such as the bible. Before it was published in print, it was told by word of mouth. As we all know, people tend to change things with each itteration to their own likings. Plus, there was those times where pretty much only those in power and religious leaders could actually read. During those times, who's to say they didn't get changed yet again to suit those in power/religious leaders?
