I've said this in the last article and say it again... what is Weird Al parodying about the song American Pie? Is Jib-Jab and Weird Al really different? WAY's American Pie had little to do with the song and mostly mocked Star Wars. And, IIRC, the Star Wars movie was fairly new at the time.
What is Jib-Jab mocking, Guthrie or the canidates? What is Weird Al mocking, Coolio or the amish? I can't see how the call is made.
What does that even mean? Who pulled the Reagans and what does it mean to pull a Reagan?
'Or how dissenting voices regarding the Iraq invasion were barely heard?'
I thought there were and are plenty of critical stories of the war. And very little of the thousands of schools, courts, and police stations we helped built. The dosens of rape rooms and torture chambers we shut down. The tens of thousands of bodies uncovered in mass graves.
'Or how media ownership is concentraed into the hands of a few vocal conservatives?'
Excluding Ted Turner, I assume.
'...TV was quick to digitally remove the twin towers from every skyline...'
This a conservative trait? I'm not liberal and I'm against messing with history like that.
'Or how Malkin can go on TV and say Kerry shot himself for his medals?'
Gotta call bull on this one. She quoted the Swift Boat book that they were self inflicted wounds. self inflicted != shot himself. The shouting Matthews kept trying to put the words "shot himself" in her mouth.
'Or how only a satiric comedy show (the Daily Show) can actually break and frame issues in a manner which isn't corporate media ass-kissing?'
I'm sure you don't mean you're getting your news from the Daily Show.
Like they always say... the most brilliant solution seems obvious after someone else thought of it. And since you didn't (c) your idea, let me introduce you to my new company, Encryp-o-Mig (tm).
I agree to a point. The point that being poor sucks and you're scrambling to tread water. I grew up lower middle class and slightly know what it's like to be without. My parents recieved food stamps. I now make $60-ish K because I worked my ass off.
The referred comment "having a car makes you rich" is an exageration but does bring up a point. What we call poor in the US is middle class in some other countries. Many of our poor have cars, TVs, AC. Many of other country's poor are starving and days away from dying.
Having read TFA, I agree with this program as long as it's effeciently handled. It teaches folks how to make their food last, understand dollar for value decisions, and how to safely store volatile foodstuffs. It can help folks better use the resources given to them and reduce the costs of the assistance.
Sorry... kind of rambled but I had a few points to make and couldn't find the appropriate threads.
"just that it is wrong/unlawful to lie in them to gain visitors."
But... is it still against this law if I'm not selling anything or gaining anthing from eyeballs and clicks? I can't RTFA so do not know. Isn't there free speech in Germany aside from the nazi symbols ban? I can't imagine them going after "Kelly's Pretty Kitty Page" but could they with this?
It seems a difficult thing to enforce... not so much finding offending pages but enumerating what is offending. Is there a percent of erronous tags and who's the liguist that will decide?
I can see this used for two situations. a) As tack on offence where someone's already breaking the law and, "oh, you also have too many tags." b) As a means to look further into your stuff because they just know you're up to no good and need to fish around a bit.
Not just SciFi... nothing seems original these days. Producers just want to cash in on prior knowledge and/or avoid risk. Look what's in one theater, right now in my area taking up half the slots:
And it's not just the unqualified folks. There were those with the education but not the love for IT. Either pushed by parents or what looked like/the/ job to be in, they got into it for the wrong reasons.
Their true calling is really art or lit so they go to school for graphic arts or comp linguistics. Of course there are competent programmers in those fields but the boom created a lot of folks that just jumped on the band wagon without really enjoyng coding.
What does the representative branch chart look like? And world economy, wars, conflicts, major inventions/discoveries, and the million other things that affect job creation.
I really think a lot more is attributed to presidents than is actually the case. Sure they "set the tone," collect aids and cabinet, make speaches, etc. But if one person is really affecting something this big and important, then there's something wrong with our checks and balances system.
Speaking of chainsaws, and I assume a correct response to this will be a spoiler, has anyone found them? I haven't gotten far in the section that mentioned them.
The Universe - some information to help you live in it....
Population: None.
It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.
I feel your pain. I've owned specific albums as LP, tape, CD and will probably get the quantum memory thumbnail version when it comes out. I hate re-buying stuff I "own" (whatever that means) but I want the better tech. Should I expect my LPs or tapes to last forever? We knew every playing degraded the media a tiny bit. Does that give me the right to the new media for free?
What's the proper analogy or business model? Honda wont give me a new model car when my '96 is gets too costly to maintain. Heller won't send me a free Catch-22 when mine is tattered. Is there something we buy and expect the creater/producer to keep us up to date, for free, forever, when the technology is improved? I can't think of one.
"A parody mocks the artist or composer. A satire mocks someone else using the work created by the artist or composer."
But... what is Jib-Jab mocking, Guthrie or the canidates? What is Weird Al mocking, Coolio or the amish? Is he mocking American Pie or Star Wars?
"JibJab is probably going to be ruled satire since it does not comment directly on Woody Guthrie or his works"
Is Jib-Jab and Weird Al really different? WAY's American Pie had little to do with the song and mostly mocked Star Wars. At least Jib-Jab points to various states and monuments of the country making it a double mock of the song and the canidates.
Skimming Seuss v. Penguin, I'd agree Jib-Jab will probably lose. I just don't see how the Weird one gets away with it. His lyrics usually mock somewhat generic, non-topical things like surgeons, and eating but American Pie/Star Wars was about a current topic.
There are many more examples too if you dig around.
JFK's tax cuts and "Ask not what your country can do for you..." More conservative than most republicans these days.
...ban on stem cell research that is choking Americas participation in modern medicine
Huh? He has not banned the research, just the government funding. I realize some folks think that's the same thing but at least argue the facts. If it's going to solve baldness and a million other illnesses, then private research would be falling over themselves to get a piece of it.
many questionable ties to corporate interests
And the Democrats don't have their special interests? NEA and other unions, Lawyers vs. banning tort reform.
If the last 4 years have shown anything, it's that his definition of 'compassionate' is seriously flawed.
How uncompassionate of him to have record breaking increases in education, perscription drug programs, allowing people to keep more of thier own money, etc.
To me, conservatives are afraid of change, or at least rapid change.
Yes! Exactly! As the original founders wanted. Make it as difficult as possible for the government to make laws. Make the branches check each other. Maybe it was short sighted at the time because they never anticipated such a rapidly changing world. Maybe it should be changed. But rapid reaction to the world requires less people in the law making loop and I don't think that's a good idea.
Neither party is better or worse than the other. To beleive otherwise demonstrates how fooled the American public is when it comes to choosing the lesser of 2 evils to govern us all.
And now it's time to repeat... Man, I'm in the wrong business.
Watch as I stick my thumb up its ass!
What is Jib-Jab mocking, Guthrie or the canidates? What is Weird Al mocking, Coolio or the amish? I can't see how the call is made.

Then yer not doing it right!
Only search non-blue eyed, blond hair people.
Our current rule that only two people of a nationality may be searched on any given flight by penalty of a lawsuit.
I think both are wrong but there must be soemthing in between.
And same wall-to-wall discipline for those that shout out 'I p0wnz u n00b1!!' hafter a hit. The Spud Peeling mod is in developement.

And by that time there was no one left to speak up.

So that's what things would be like if I'd invented the fing-longer.
