in my country chocolate cigarettes are banned. that is real chocolate cigarettes, there is no tobacco in them at all, it's real candy (that looks like cigarettes). there was quite the uproar when that happened, basically everybody had at one time in their life had at least eating it once, but despite all, they got banned anyway. i still can't imagine that these candies are responsible for turning kids into smokers as some kind of gateway 'drug'.
we should keep a bunch of those mosquitoes alive somewhere 'safe', just as we do with all those deadly virusses that are erradicated. in case we did screw up, hopefully we can still restore the situation by releasing our safely kept species.
"Imagine that you had to buy your car and then somehow get it to a brake system specialist and pick and choose a reasonable set of brakes for your vehicle. Oh, and if you chose wrong and your car didn't stop and you rolled into someone - well, that's just your fault... Would that be acceptable to motorists today?"
not a good car anology. it would be more something like - we think there are too many pedals, so we only give you one, now everybody can drive! all the while there are other cars that still do have 2 or 3 pedals. if you choose the car with one pedal, either you know what you're doing or you're going to crash. sure, the sales pitch was - easier to use - but it is not, it's harder to use, or at least harder to use safely.
many, many years ago there was an article on/. about the fact that each time you read a tech article that is negatieve about a technology or tech company, there is a marketing firm behind it hired by a competitor.
forget about the poor 3rd party repair services, this is about you, the customer. the T2 chip is pure evil, it prevents to use of other OS's, it prevents self-repair (or any repair not by apple). this is all about locking the customer.
ofcourse, Apple customers probably don't even care.
the biggest problem is that games today change all the time, update every month/week/... and change the rules, remove unintended exploits etc. by the time you buy your strategy guide, it's already outdated.
and next announcement will be that you can run windows 10 applications on your xbox, and at that point the xbox really is just a pc (but even more locked down).
driving my car used to be fun, it no longer is. besides the ever increasing traffic jams which means you're not really driving anyway, but just sitting in a car waiting, there are increased police presence making sure you're following the traffic rules, which also have become more complex/unclear and sometimes impossible to follow (not really the rules, but rather situations; contradicting signs etc) and fines have increased to ridiculous levels. clearly, there is no fun to be had anymore. i try to go to work by bike as much as possible, and still google maps reports that i've been in traffic for 42 hours last month! that is almost 2 days lost for nothing.
i saw the trailer yesterday, and was thinking while watching it - wouldn't it be cool if netflix had it narrated by Attenborough. and then, just as about the trailer is to end, you hear his voice!
fine, they are closing backdoors, which they put there themselves and aparently have a hard time finding. i just hope they are also educating their devs to never put in backdoors again, otherwise this will be a never ending story.
it means that IP has now become valuable to China, it wasn't in the past so they ignored it. Ignoring IP allowed them to grow, fast. Now that they're becoming a player they want to avoid somebody else doing what they've done.
that is the joke, isn't it? mobile phone companies are competing with eachother on smaller bezels and thinner phones and people gasp at their design. but when they buy such a phone, they have to uglyfy it, and make it fatter again by said idiotic protective case. the iphone is a marvel of design, as long as it is not being used.
and so we end up with an internet where the only sites that are still up & running are owned by (mega)corps, because anything else can't afford to stay available.
"But it's a lot better than having your mistakes preserved eternally."
you mean it's not being displayed, because it will be preserved on facebook servers eternally. just like all the facebook sttaus updates you make, but then cancel, are also stored in your profile (but not displayed).
- you are overworked, have too much on your plate, perhaps your team needs to be extended, or you need to hand over tasks to somebody else in the team which can handle a bit of extra work. - you no longer enjoy your IT job, time to find something else. if it feels annoying most of the time, if you have to drag yourself to work most of the days, those are clear signs.
no, we can hear the teeth grinding because we know how his reaction would have been in the past. if he always would have been this polite, we wouldn't have the sound of grinding teeth in the back of our heads.
That is not what devops is about at all. If anything, your code should be more secure by implementing devops, because the security part gets integration in the delivery flow.
they will find the perfect trailer formula and then all trailers will look the same, except for the title of the movie. ofcourse, this has to a large extend, already been applied to movies as a whole, that's why every movie is basically the same.
praise the indies!
it's amazing how much the video games and movie industry is similar.
you have choice, even more so today then 10 years ago.
you don't have to use windows at all.
if you don't like it, use something else!

Meanwhile i just install Linux on a non-Apple pc.
If i want Linux, i'll just install linux.
you know what is more inconvient then remembering a few pins?
getting scammed out of your money.

whatever figure you use to indicate something, will be played and abused.

phone displays have become so large, they no longer easily fit in my pants pockets. now, i'll be able to fold the phone and they'll fit again!

that a system costing millions of dollars hasn't been fixed after all these years.

there is nothing wrong with ftp, as long as it is used in the correct way.
