i'm not sure that a game like fortnite is the real competition to netflix. if fortnite wouldn't be around, those people would probably play something else and if there would be no computer games at all, i still doubt most of them would suddenly start watching tv. i remember from my teenage years that i couldn't care less about tv, and gamed/irc'ed the whole evening away.
tv _is_ the competitor, be it by cable or other streaming services like youtube (don't underestimate how much time youngsters spend on youtube, and it's free).
my dad knew about the following eyes, he pointed me to a lot of paintings that did that, although i never knew it was called the 'mona lisa effect'. he was an artist himself, he probably knew the secret because he made several paintings that did the same. one thing though, it doesn't work with a photo of the painting, don't know why, but if these researchers used a photo shown on a monitor to reach their conclusions, it wouldn't have worked. can't ask him for more info about it anymore since he died more then 15 years ago.
The idea is to have a higher data transfer rate, because the transfer rate of the current phone input-output mechanism is not fast enough. I would argue that most people will not be able to handle the speeds at which data will be delivered if they need to manage that real time.
we live in an awesome time in tech, compared to what was possible in the 70's. the problem is the constant abuse of the technology by companies. and that spoils the fun for all of us.
they will market these things as safety devices, people might fall for it that way. could be that goverments make it a requirement, as they did with safety belts, and almost any other safety matter that came after that. it wouldn't be a problem either if it was just doing those things without sending all the data to who ever wants it.
1. better OSS partner then nvidia 2. card is cheaper then nvidia 3. has no raytracing, but the tech is new and doesn't work properly for games at this point anyway, AMD card will get it when it's more 'mature'. 4. performance might be a bit worse, but probably not too much, which is OK for me.
give me some good arguments why i should pick nvidia above amd again?
been using linux since 95 and i've seen all kinds of bugs throughout the years. it looks like systemd is remaking all of them again, each time i think - this already happened before, it shouldn't be a problem anymore. seems as if the systemd team is recreating the complete history of linux userland bugs again.
as long as it won't turn into the same exclusivity story as we see happening now with video streaming. games from publisher x only available on game streaming service y and games from a only available on b.
is this modelled after 'modern' software development? you know, like in games and certain other software, where after the first install (on release day) you get to install immense patches fixing stuff. so after launch and deployment in space, the first thing it will have to do is get a software update, and another one and another and...
and let's not talk about the risk that the update mechanism will get hacked and then anything is possible.
this will live or die depending on how many ad interuptions there are and how they will be. it looks that, for now at least, it's mostly older movies that have been made available. i quickly scrolled through the recommended lists, and there were no movies that i hadn't seen before, nothing recent from the last 5 years (or more).
i looked at the list and it's just a bunch of rubbish apps, who installs these idiotic things? aparently 100.000's of people looking at the download count. nobody learned a thing as people just keep installing whatever on their devices.
for me to buy a phone, it needs one or preferably both of these;
- runs with the android one program, a clean android with no extra crap or crazy customizations, but with regular updates - is an open device which allows me to install a custom rom
I am shocked, doctors normally take the hyppocratic oath, it contains things like;
"... I will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures [that] are required, avoiding those twin traps of overtreatment and therapeutic nihilism.... I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm."
But then, i guess, those are only valid if there is enough money involved.
i used to roll up my newspaper to smash flies and other insects, but since i don't get any newspapers anymore i've been looking for another good replacement.

shouldn't be too hard to find 200.000 idiots with too much money on this planet.
blast it into space. space is so big, we'll never be able to fill it up!

all those insects probably moved to another place that now has the conditions their original habitat once had?
'anything "that can cause death and/or have caused death in some instances."'
that is basically anything, i can die eating a bowl of soup, walking down the stairs, etc.

They don't really need your biometric passport to unlock your phone, they have other ways to get to the data.

it doesn't only work for faces, but the video also shows hands, complete bodies and...
paper.
in the youtube video one person is holding a wrinkled paper and in the 'processed' stream the paper is very much less wrinkled.
i think the whole thing is stupid, if you need to modify people so much, might as well just use complete digital models instead.

obviously, china is investing heavily in china, it makes sense for them to do this;

true, it's all about the apps, but the switch has got none of the apps you would normally find on a tablet.
if this is fake news.
