So far it's had to have been reasonable, not just someone going "LOL ASBO!!", people who have been seen by entire estates. Think the white trash living in a nice neighbour type people.
I admit it can be twisted and corrupted, but right now it hasn't been. But then it's labour, soon they'll give Christians asbos just for not worshipping them.
Everyone here is missing the point. Asbos work and they work well, they're not abused yet and have mostly been used on complete assholes.
I'll give you an example, the village I grew up in got a new set of slides and swings in the park. Within a week the place was full of graffiti ("LOL COCK" type of things) and most the new equipment was trashed. No kids went there because you'd always find 15-20 year olds drunk and doing drugs. These would be the sort of people who get an Asbo, they're told to stay the hell out of the park and if they go into them they will have commited a crime.
Plus lets me honest here, the UK police force right now has bigger issues. They shot a guy in the head 8 times for "being a terrorist", when he was totally innocent and now they're getting done on Healthy and safety instead of murder charges they deserve. I'd say forget Asbos and start to worry about the big shit they are throwing around right now. I think I'd rather lose my PC in this country than get 8 holes in the head..
How is the internet any different to books and games? I'm like the guy above and before I got the internet I played my SNES on my own, before that I always played with toys on my own. That's just how some people are.
If anyone a "digital lifestyle" will save lives because it stops people from killing themselvs when they get depressed and lonely.
I'm a hermit, haven't been out the house in over a year except to the field across the road from me and to the hospital in an ambulance.
I don't really like people very much, they're noisey and too active for my tastes. I like things quiet and peaceful, if I must talk I'd rather talk with my fingers in a text basis than with vocal words.
I don't really feel I'm missing out on anything, as a kid I was very social, but then I don't have to deal with the huge bunch of idiots screaming and shouting.
We live in an era where everyone seems to want to be equal, we forget some people are just quirky and have no intrest in social activites. Some of us don't want to be a pop star, a footballer or whatelse is popular these days. We're happy to sit in the corner, do our own thing and just wish to be left alone unless we approach you.
I don't think I have a problem, I don't need you going "OH LOL YOU FREAK! YOU NEVER GO OUT!". All I need is for people to understand that they arn't the centre of the world and that people have different feelings and levels of social activity.
MS doesn't get the Japanese market, they keep acting like 1 or 2 games is going to change the entire fate of a system.
Best example is from 2channel a few months back, Bandai announced Gundam Gashapon wars. Featuring a truck load of fan favour robots which hadn't been seen in a game since the SNES era. The forum post had about 50 people going "I would of bought it, but it's on the gamecube so I'll pass" or bitching about it being on the gamecube.
Japan doesn't like the Xbox, it doesn't matter what games they put on it, it just won't compete with the DS and the PS2 currently. When the PS3 comes out and the Wii, it will be the next Gamegear/Lynx/Your dead console of choice here.
Books are not games. Remember this before you start to compare them. Different crowds.
Also you pointed out why I don't like episodic content. I have no problem with short doses (infact it means you get the fun-hyperactive-brand-new-game-feeling 3-5 times more so it means you enjoy the game more and grind to the end less. But my problem is exactly what you pointed out, the fanbase has too much power.
Lets go nuts here and say we look at the FF7 fanbase, if they got their way they'd just want a remake of FF7 and basicly everything would have to be identical and characters just can't do much outside of their predefined box. Is that truely what we want in our games? Where the majority bitching rule over our games? Star wars galaxy had this.. and look where it ended up.
Too much feedback and caving in (to money), can ruin a good thing.
Episodes are just a buzzword and we need to stop listening to it. For years PCs have had expansion packs, these usually continued the story or did a side story. How is this any different than episodic content?
And before anyone says "but this is continueing the same story, so it's new!!", Diablo 2's expansion pack did just that.
Stop buying into this crappy hype and open your eyes. It's the same thing we've had since the 80s (at least) with a new name to make the headlines.
You're not playing the same GW I'm playing. the level cap is extremely low and you get exp really quickly, your friends could easily get you 3-4 levels in an hour or two if you were post-searing and really low level. Probably 1 an hour if mid level.
Also theres no reason you can't hang with them if they come and run you to the area, you may not be able to do much but leech exp, but with hexs and disruption skills you can still be some use.
You do get that 90% of them cameras are privately owned by shop owners correct?
Also it makes no damn difference to anyone. Only the towns have cameras, where you're already being watched by 20-50 people at a time. In the country side I've never seen a single camera. It's not like we have midgets hanging from trees with cameras going "psst, we're watching".
I don't doubt the US would be exactly the same if you didn't have to drive every where and they can just film the junctions at roads instead.
Also just because it's not public known doesn't mean it isn't happening, the US government is spying every where but the street, so I doubt the streets as "unvideoed" as you may have convinced yourself.
Maybe because if they don't step in everyone gets screwed? This is the UK we're talking about here, we're not pro-business in many aspects. Most people are infact trying to avoid super markets and huge stores and goto Mum and Pops stores.
While America may trust the market to iron out problems in the UK we use the law to do it so that people get a fair deal.
Before you comment on our problems maybe you should look at stuff like rebates and other crap like that. In the UK that sort of shit just doesn't stand up.
The UK is different from the US. We don't go "oh the market will sort it's self out", we go "oi, you stick to the rules or you fuck off". That way if someone is being a bitch to their customers or using too much bullshit to get the truth out of them, people like Trading standards and other government bodies come in. They check it out and get it sorted.
We're an odd little place and like everyone to play fair no matter what, not just assume the cheats will get theirs via the customers.
1. I don't follow the US congress but when the fuck did it matter if you had a dick or a vagina, let alone the colour of it? Best person for the job wins. END OF STORY (I know this is not the case) 2. Last black guy or woman to run please? Hmm, nope. 3. Business is all about who you know and who you screw. If the men pull the right strings then they get the position. You can't say it's about anything but the chances you got. 4. See above 5. See above 6. Care to come to the UK? I see mixs of every race known to man on the news here in the Midlands. Local, international etc. Could I also alert you to Sir Trevor McDonald? Most famous news caster in Britian. But oh yea, the worlds focused on America right?
The original poster has a damn good point. If you scream racism or sexism over and over it brings attenction to it. If you just buckle down and get on with life then you can ignore it. I know far too many people who look at race before they look at their real race (human).
People don't like to hear it but people are like dogs. Each colour has slight varients in looks and personality in each breed, but deep down they're all the same. If you play to your strengths you'll be top dog, if you always blame others you'll never see your own faults and a way to fix it.
It's possible, but also remember dogs scent glands are around that area. Often the dominate dog will drag it's ass along it's home to leave it's mark there. The same way male dogs pee all over the place, female dogs often drag.
Can we stop these already please? They were making a brief chuckle in the original news story, now they're just unfunny and modded up by people who enjoy wasting mod points.
Jokes rarely improve a discussion, the same was modding troll or flamebait doesn't. Modding insightful or intresting improves slashdot. It brings forward the good stuff where as if people want jokes they can set Funny +4 and only 1 funny mod point is needed to give them just what they want, while not bothering the general flow.
You just proved why they must evolve. If most humans are collected together then so are the bugs, so the best bug ets to thrive while the weaker ones slowly die out. Being bigger, faster and stroger means you can get more blood quicker and then back off while the others get killed.
Theres a difference between being so gifted that you can add 2 and 2 and so gifted that you can't count your money. MS is like that really big bully who runs around a sports field punching people, owns the ball and is twice the size of the coach. Someone HAS to knee cap MS because they have anger management issues and the size to really hurt people.
If MS sat in the OS market and behaved I very much doubt anyone would have a problem, but MS acts like a cancerous tumour where it sits in the middle of the IT market's chest and slowly leechs off into everything else. If this isn't corrected and damn soon then MS will be more or less the entire IT market (isn't far off now) and will cripple start up companies and new ideas before they even get going.
I think you have to remember the whole world isn't America. We like a fair fight and we like to give people equal chances and let the best prevail. When someone wins and goes "LOL! No more playing on my field bitchs!" we tend to get very touchy. Where as America seems to go "oh well they won, they deserve it, lets beat them in the future some time" without taking into consinderation of if you step on the field you get clubed by an ogre.
You could claim what you like about the EU, but we vote the people in. MS no one voted for and now they have enough power to probably take over the world if they saw fit. I'm glad they're being knee capped if nothing else.
Note : I think Windows and MS need a lot of work, but other than the security holes Windows is a good idiot's use OS. Which is what it was designed for. MS just needs to swallow it's pride and totally rewrite everything in a more secure and modern way rather than painting over the cracks. So no, I'm not anti MS.
If you exploit the firewall and totally disable it they'll only replace it with bigger and better. So you'll screw the good guys twice as much as the bad guys.
I'd argue with you over this, there are some games who tell a lot of the story in cut scenes of one form or another and do it extremely well. Resident evil for example does it well, the plot is perfectly b-movie grade and works awesomely witht he cut scenes.
I tink people forget something. Games are all different, some games suit some things and other games suit other things. I'm an old school RPG player so I perfer my characters to talk in text and cut scenes more or less to start and end the game (Tales of symphonia and Shin Megami Tensei 3 come to mind here, as long as you turn the dubbing off in ToS as I did).
But there are people who love the FMVs and huge overly unneeded movie sections in FF games. These people are also part of the same market and should be accepted and allowed their share of the pie. The problem is as the article says, people at the top are going "okay sure!" when they ask for more, but when we ask for more we have to pray Japan makes something and Atlus picks it up (BTW, Super robot taisen : Original generation on the GBA is out soon, for the love of God support the series, it's awesome and I've never seen a single FMV on the GBA versions).
Just because you don't like interactive movies doesn't mean the same applies to you.
It seems to be just another genre manga TBH, nothing remotely special. What makes manga and anime so special is that it covers more or less every genre on mass. If you can't find something you like you're either not looking hard enough or you refuse to look past the styles if you don't like it.
Very intressting post. You should post more often:)
A lot of 9/11s problem is no one really outside of America cares any more, but no one inside seems to be able to put feelings aside and look at the facts. But you seem to have done that and that's cool in my book.
Maybe it's just me here but in every paranoid guy's head this is going to come across as "They knew, they just let it happen". I hate to buy into conspiracy theories and I really don't believe any of the 9/11 ones. But two and two wasn't making four yesterday and now it seems closer to six at least in my head.
I just hope I get to live untill I'm 80 with my mind still intact, then I can see all the evidence from this bullshit as stuff is released in Britian and maybe even see some things from the US if a government with some balls and not just childish wargames in mind comes into power.
Spiffy, but when the hell is Valve going to patch Ep1? I can't even get beyond the opening scene because theres one uber error effecting a lot of pre-Windows XP installs. So while I'm sure this is great personally looking at anything ep 1 is like rubbing salt in the wound.
There was a bug in the beautiful joe 2 demo. It's well documented and they even gave people free games to say sorry for it.
You're basicly saying "Wow I'm so glad my extending stick is in my control, having one of them normal-always-the-same-sticks is so much more risky".
How can I prevent the game engine screwing up when it worked perfectly fine without the add on (and still works fine) huh? How can I control patchs and such?
I don't know what world you're living in, but in my world it's extremely unlikely for a console game to have any problems a new disc won't instantly fix, where as I've spent weeks wrestling things just to get them to run on my PC. There's a reason MS is claiming "It just works" and it's not because they think it's a Skoda.
So far it's had to have been reasonable, not just someone going "LOL ASBO!!", people who have been seen by entire estates. Think the white trash living in a nice neighbour type people.

Completely off topic post but slashdots probably the best place to ask. You can take my karma in payment for it if you wish.
Does anyone know a program to record guild wars which will run on windows 98 please?

Yes because a Chinese firewall is going to black English words right? They'll block the Chinese words obviously.
