You goto a club, fuck some girl (who's high/drunk/out of it but still wants it and makes all the moves), she then waddles home and ends up being raped. Your DNA (and possiblely sperm) is on/in her, so is some other guys. If she doesn't remember you (or others) then you're now up for gang rape charges.
DNA is seen as some miracle cure, but it's so easy to get a hair, or a bit of spin or whatever. Planting DNA is insanely easy, more so then pinning a crime on someone.
When the hell did we become a society where you need "evidence" incase I do something wrong? Isn't it about time we stopped going "well maybe you'll do something wrong.." and start going "well 99% of people don't do this bullshit, maybe it's best we don't piss them all off for that 1 in a billion chance".
I very much doubt he's the best gamer ever as they try to make out. "Pro gaming" is based on abusing bugs, short cuts and general lamer tactics. The type of people who bunny hop around maps using the rocket launcher to frag you as you spawn, collecting all the weapons before anyone else can get to them.
I don't care how much people get paid, I refuse to play with people who abuse these bugs (and trust me, they all do. It's become socially acceptable) and I outright refuse to call any of these people "pro".

Companies get away with murder, they tried to step on peoples feet again and they stepped on a very pissed off geeks feet and are now paying the price. If we had this uproar against all bullshit policies maybe the world would be a better place. But no, we're in a world of submissive consumers who won't say boo to a goose incase of a lawsuit.
I enjoy checking slashdot, building models and playing with computers. I've been doing all of the above (except slashdot) for a good 15 years. I also enjoy fantasy and sci fi movies/novels/games, which was also considered geeky a few years back.
These are my hobbies, I don't have to go out there and do them. I do them because I enjoy them. It takes no effort what so ever to order a book from Amazon and just sit reading it. It takes even less effort to do so with a movie.
If you find it hard "being a geek" I suggest you do some soul searching and get with the right community for you, because you're not a geek if you have to actively try to be one.
The internet is a tool just like a notepad. I can sit and doodle all day in my notepad instead of taking notes if I wish to. Does that mean notepads are suddenly bad for studying?

But in the heart of every true geek there is a love beyond "it's fashionable", the love of code/toys/pcs/whatever. While at the moment it's "cool" to be a geek the real geeks are never seen because we're too busy doing our own thing and ignoring the fads.
Give it 5-10 years and we'll see the fad blow over. When it does you'll see a lot of (insert new fad here)s and the same old bunch of geeks with no toys to play with thanks to all the idiots driving the industries we love with their loose money.
Can we stop the "brits" thing. We don't go around calling the French, Germans or Polish "Europeans" yet we still get that crappy label (which very few support) from Americans.

I like to keep a clean list and the main reason I use Gaim is to get away from bullshit like this (MSN making the bottom of windows ads, AIM using flash for adverts etc.). If they keep trying shit like this I'll walk and tell all my friends to do the same. ICQ, Jabber, MSN, Yahoo.. theresat least 4 other major ones I can happily log onto and support.
Different in the UK. I used to take my gameboy to school all the time. I was never bullied for being a geek (I was bullied for other reasons relating to disabilities). But games with the PSX went mainstream, now all the idiotic sports players and "rappers" are playing games. The PS2 is "cool" now is why it's changed.

I know my limits and could drive way beyond the speed limits if I wanted to. But really whats the point, you get there no faster and risk much more. Driving at 50-60 is quite relaxed and planned well you get there in good time. Then again I've seen enough people in BMWs almost get themselvs killed and it doesn't look fun from where I'm sitting..
Speed limits are based on the areas. Most police officers won't go after someone on the motor way/dual carriage way unless they're doing 90 mph. It's just not worth trying to catch them when it's difficult to prove it or even bother.
Where as going 30-40 in a 20 zone (like around schools) is very dangerous and easy to catch and prove.
But then you get the problem of which is worse, killing a little kid, or mowing down an old lady, maybe it's ramming into a lorry or a bus.. peoples opinions don't put all these crimes on an equal terms, so they make all the crimes have an equal fine in a bracket and simplely go "screw it".

Speed limits are there to keep people going at the same speed. If some guy is going 90 along a road and turns a corner to see someone going 20 then they're pretty fucked (aka dead). The other reason is to stay safe when walking. I live in the country side, I quite often take the dogs for walks on backroads, theres no foot paths and in some cases no where to stand except on the road. If someone comes bombing along I could well lose my legs if I'm lucky.
The police understand you close gaps, may go a touch faster, they're fine with this, it's when you start driving dangerously (talk to any twat in a BMW at 5-6pm, you'll see the cunts as they drive past you almost hitting head on traffix), they get a BIG problem.
Just remember becuse "you" are safe, doesn't mean that fucked behind you is going to be safe. If you keep everyone roughly equal then theres less risks. It's the same reason we have "no running" in schools and silence in libaries. Idiots abuse their rights untill they die taking out others with them.
