Using a computer in the wrong way hurts learning. If the group you talk to on IM uses "l337 sp34k", you also use it. But if all your friends (and yourself), say "NO CRAP! Plain English or fuck off!", then you get plain, clear and good English.
I admit I can't spell to save my life, and still don't know where some things need be put in setences, but I learn more from talking to Dave and Bob, in IMs then I do from watching Pop Idol version 9 million and 4!
I got sick of this and people complaining about it, so I wrote a short "guide" to keeping a Windows machine saf eonly using free (or open source) software.
Military people were complaining gamers make crap soldiers... now we'll own them at robot wars and laugh at how they mocked us for playing space invaders!
So now us on 56k without HL yet have even more things to download.... they really need to make good old.exe patchs so we can use download managers and such.
For years I played TFC on my little 56k modem and crappy machine. I had alot of fun.. then WON was taken down and whenever I tried to use STEAM it killed me. my PC just crashed right out, no reason or anything.
Now I bought HL twice, OP4 twice, BS twice, CS (was in a boxset), CS:CZ (which I've never played) and I'm spending £600 tomorrow on a new PC so I can play HL2. Now I'd say I'm pretty much addicted to Half-life in general.
Now I understand I don't buy "a game", I buy a licence to play the game and to own the game. Now if I have to use STEAM to "register" my product, then does that not mean I don't have the licence? Surely if I've payed my £30 for my right to own a copy of the game I should be able to install it on any machines I see fit because I bought that right.
Why MUST I let ET phone home if I want to take advantage of his cool glowing finger when I just paid him to do it?
Valve are trying to set up a community they control and if you cross them they cut you off. They will lead the path onto this new games industry. "You report to us, only us and no one else! If you install someone elses software we will destroy it or deny you access to ours!", we wouldn't take this for anything else so why should we software?
People say "speak with your money" but news flash, they don't care. For every game we buy theres 50 more sheep buying it. Whats a few hundred bucks from a couple of geeks?
The only way to stop this is to act up, make some noise. They could easily release a single player only HL2, make it so it simplely includes the game it's self and nothing more. Most pirates want more then the single player so they might play it (ALA demo) then buy it for full multiplayer.
The key to this is online sales. It's easier for me to DL a song then it is for me to travel into town.
Admittingly I haven't bought a CD in about 3 years because I don't care for the music. I see no difference in recording a song off the radio by tape and downloading it.
People who don't want to buy a CD won't, they might download the song but thats all of 0% loss to the company since they didn't have the money in the first place.
Some people may go "nah, I wont buy it, I have it now). Yep thats a loss, but some people will also do the reverse. Thats how life works.
Give a little, lose a little. It'll all iron out, if you start sueing people you just piss people off and they revolt.
I haven't even got a PC that can play HL2 right now. I should have my new PC by a week on Wednesday but I'm still stuck on 56k. So how big is this patch? It seems forced up on us by STEAM to boot. How big is this patch?
Oh BTW theres a new patch, DOWNLOAD IT OR DIE!!! - Steam every time you open it
They were mainstream brands, the people who buy them didn't take much notice. It was the press which forced their hands.
On the other hand how many jocks (who else buys sports games?) don't care if EA are abusing geeks. After all we're geeks we're ment to be bullied and pushed around right?
This is all fine and dandy but when is the UK, and the rest of Europe, getting the DS?
You missed some...
6. People get sick of it and whine
7. People move to Linux
8. Profit for someone else!
We all keep our PCs secure.. or should do. Then we make money off it, by fixing the PC's belong to who don't...
It's win-win for us. Lose-lose for the newbies.
Could someone who has donated change their name to Bill Gates please? Thanks!
Maybe because they are and we even get sick of people calling us all "Brits" or whatever?

How long untill they go, "We did a trial, it worked well. Lets use it to track terrorists!" and start to try and force it upon the people this way?
cool cool. I added you to my friends list and my e-mail is Mikari@Gmail.com (Spammers already found it so who cares :) )
I could of swore people reguarded science and religion as opposits..
Or is that the "Monitor" part?
I wrote it one morning at 4am when I'd ran out of coke and had 4 people bitching at me about their "PC is slow" and such.
If you wish to edit it and improve it please do so, rename or whatever and just send it to my e-mail and I'll add a credits list and such.

Pass it around, send comments. Whatever, it's very basic so idiots should get it.

If it's anything like the systems the UK government use then we'll be fine. We'll all become tech support staff!

Noooo! A girl might read it and come here!! Won't someone think of the children!?
Tomorrows news.
China blocks all blog sites.
Could you tell me how long it takes to auth HL2 on 56k as well please.

Why didn't they cut them off from the network for a few minutes to do the upgrade... it's common sense.
It's like a thousand solitaire players suddenly cried out in frustration and then silence...
logs can be edited way too easy. They shouldn't be allowed as evidence, hence can't be used to get warrants or anything.
GG CIA, you lose.
How do I get on your Christmas list and what about Mandrake? ;)
