  3. Re:The difference is Cost of Living on Tech People Making $100k a Year On the Rise, Again · · Score: 1

I think the truth is that most people don't actually foresee buying a house any more. I know many professionals in the Valley who still live with their parents because it's cheaper than dumping half their paycheck on an apartment. Most people also end up with several room mates. 100k sounds like a lot until you take out taxes and 2k a month for rent. Plus, if you want to be social, you can't eat out for less than $25 a meal. And those are the cheap places. Other required items are also much more expensive out here. Many professionals sacrifice a LOT to live in the valley. Making 100k doesn't hurt, but all that means is that when your TV breaks, you can buy a new one without having to worry about eating. You are still stuck in renting hell. You are still living month to month, just with a little extra money in pocket.

I can think of only a few, and none that are important: computer mice, modern fencing weapons, golf clubs.

She would rather pop her kid in front of video games then find other things he may enjoy and help me befriend people. Don't get me wrong, I love games and I have no problem with kids gaming within reason. But letting your kid play video games so you don't have to deal with it is BAD PARENTING. Also, if this is really the only thing he has to prove for himself, maybe you should help him find another hobby.

It really hit and miss. In my case while there are several hits, most of the movies are very very aged. However they do have a wide range of younger content. I know you can watch enough Hannah Montana to want to hang yourself...

I bought the family a Roku box a while back now and it's got the heaviest use from the younger ones.

Also a side note: I hope MS makes netflix FREE. I can pay monthly to get their gold package (which is only needed for those who play nothing but CoD and Halo for hours on end) in order to use netflix. Why spend the money when I can spend $100 and get a Roku box without having to worry about fees?

That fact that BOTH Playboy and whoever currently owns the rights to the Simpsons thought it was a good idea is proof that they are BOTH in a lot of trouble. I have no motivation at all in seeing a "sexy" Marge Simpson. I think they confused "20-something" and "Anime Perverts." HUGE difference.

You clearly have no idea how Steam's banning system (VAC) works. There is no way to "report" someone. Not only is VAC automatic (it catches specific software that makes adjustments to the game as it's being play), it's also generally out-of-date. The only way you will be banned is if you use old hacks on a secure server. There are also many unsecure servers that can be played on. Also, VAC tends to be slow on updating which hacks it watches for.

Steam doesn't review bans for a simple reason: Hacks Lie. Also, the average person caught cheating is a whinny 12-year-old brat. Very rarely are people banned incorrectly. The only thing I can think of was an old HL1 client-side mod which let people see "bloom." It was later found that VAC would catch this as a hack. Once this was found, the developers of the mod CLEARLY noted that it was caught by VAC and should not be used during online play.

There are MANY good games out for the DS, they just aren't violent. The DS lacks FPSs because it really can't do them well. However it has many great Platformers and Puzzle Games. It also has a lot of J/RPGs even if those aren't too much to my liking.

The DS has plenty of titles aimed for us older gamers... they just aren't all blood and guts.

The PSP is the system that needs more games. I think I can count games worth plating on a single hand. All the PSP has going for it is an "adult" image... and no games.
