More proof that DRM is EXCELLENT and NEVER HURTS THE CONSUMER! I'm waiting for EA to release a game which is only playable for 3 days after release. After all, after 3 days we can buy ANOTHER crippled DRM game!
My home router actually had a 10Mbps Half Duplex WAN port for some odd reason. I had to find a new router to get the full 12 down speed they promised. Oddly 10 Mbps WAN ports are still very common on home routers, even brand new ones.
If Comcast is having major network congestion then why did they automatically double everyone's download speeds? I got a letter a few days ago saying that I now get 12 down rather then 6. Seems like a BAD idea if they are having congestion issues...
I don't know what nerds YOU know, but MMOs are about as main-stream as you can get. Any "nerd" who plays WoW or other addictive MMOs have NO RIGHT to call themselves nerds.
You better change the contact e-mail address.
I know someone who's account got stolen because he used a hotmail account and it expired. Sure enough, someone re-registered the e-mail account on hotmail and took over the account. Steam support was unable to help him:(
I agree that it's actually easier then piracy. Not that piracy is hard, but Steam just makes it so easy. It auto-installs everything and WORKS with no problems.
My only issue with Steam is that you need to have steam running which could effect game performance on weak computer. If you have a nice rig, don't expect any issues.
That list is pointless though. They give everything a high ranking and doing explain much. "They offer AAA games and it work". What about things like customer support? Valve has a cryptic customer support system. Basically you write a note and you hope they get to it within a few weeks. No phone calls, only the message system.
Sure the systems work, but why write an article if you don't actually get down to the dirty issues. What about the whole "WildTangent is spyware" issue? The lack of information makes the article useless.
Also, I believe it is counter productive. If you pirate the game, they will know people want the game enough to jump through hoops for it. EA will just try to make piracy more difficult than buying the product.
The DRM was broken nearly a WEEK before the game came out. The fact is that NO DRM has ever NOT been broken.
DRM doesn't stop piracy, it never has. It only hurts the end user. The sooner companies catch on, the better. Hurting nerds is one thing, but when they start hurting your average end user, hell is going to break loose.
the DMCA is 'designed to facilitate the robust development and world-wide expansion of electronic commerce, communications, research, development, and education in the digital age'."
I'm sorry, but which DMCA is he reading? Because the last time I read the DMCA, it was written to do the complete opposite.
Your main problem is having a Zune. Not that there are many good MP3 options out there since apple started screwing the pooch in an endless loop... Seriously, how can you justify a classic iPod's firmware crashing every few days? It's a MP3 player, OS stability should NOT be an issue.
I was talking about wireless NICs. Linux actually have better Ethernet NIC support then XP does. I can't tell you how many computers I've installed XP on and did NOT have Ethernet on a fresh install. However Linux live-boots seem to have great wired support for Ethernet NICs.
I'm not a Linux hater in any way. I WANT to have a full Linux desktop... but not Linux still has issues that does not make it a logical decision for some users.
I understand that you can't blame Linux for driver support, but it's something that NEEDS to be fixed before you can stand on the corner and tell people to install Linux. Saying "install Linux only if you research all your hardware and replace some hardware with 'Linux-safe' hardware" doesn't fly.
Now I know that Windows doesn't have this 100% correct either. Hunting down drivers can be HUGE pain. Installing XP on modern hardware can also sometimes be a HUGE pain. But I think everyone can agree that Linux can (and should) be better then Windows.
I hope there is better driver suport. Getting *nix to work with graphics cards and NICs is too much of a pain for average users (and even skilled users).
the problem with adventure puzzle games is that no one wants to work in 2D anymore. However there have been a few great recent adventure puzzle games. Hotel Dusk: Room 215 for the DS was AMAZING. It's a shame they haven't made another...
Ya, that's bull shit. I'm a fan of puzzle games and the Nintendo DS has plenty of puzzle games. If they weren't selling, why would they still be making them?
Tetris DS is a top seller that is hard to find in the US now. Meteos was a very original puzzle game for the DS and spawned a sequal. Picross was also a well selling game. There are also tons of others.
As a fan of simple puzzle games, they are FAR from dead.
I don't see how this is "New News." I have heard several public government speakers in the past that talked about how cyber crime it based on the Mafia hierarchy.
I also use an old laptop. I've got an old Dell Latitude c510/610 which I use. It's got a 1.2ghz P3m with 512 ram. The front bays let you pick and choose what you want in it so I found an extra battery and run it with 2 batteries and no optical or disk drive. I get about 8 hours of web browsing and word processing. It obviously doesn't have built in wireless so a card is needed.
In general, AIM is the main protocol used in the US. MSN is generally more popular everywhere else. However, Israel is split between MSN and ICQ (I'm not sure if that has changed recently though). The only people I've seen with Yahoo are those who have the ISP and don't really talk to anyone unless it's needed.
Lincity has their own working code. I see NO reason for Lincity to take over the Micropolis project. I think Micropolis should split off and be it's own project. I'm actually very surprised there isn't a SF.net project for this yet...
They used to let you re-download songs. They have since disabled that option because "you have the right to back-up your files" or something like that. What this means is that if your computer crashes and you don't have the files back up, your screwed. I'm not sure if there is an easy way to rip bought music back off an iPod or not...
Unless you have tiny baby hands...

Dedicated servers should check for matching steam IDs, even on the LAN. As for listen servers, I have NO idea...
You better change the contact e-mail address. I know someone who's account got stolen because he used a hotmail account and it expired. Sure enough, someone re-registered the e-mail account on hotmail and took over the account. Steam support was unable to help him :(
Didn't Nintendo make that years ago?
I agree that it's actually easier then piracy. Not that piracy is hard, but Steam just makes it so easy. It auto-installs everything and WORKS with no problems.

Since I have a copy of XP pro, I might as well try to get the $100 back. Damn, even a better deal now!

Forgive my long post...
I was using an ATI X1600 Pro. I spent hours trying to get the darn thing working before I called it a day and had to switch back to Windows.
I hope there is better driver suport. Getting *nix to work with graphics cards and NICs is too much of a pain for average users (and even skilled users).

In my own defence, it was sorta legit...

Well, time to pull out the DeLorean...
