    is there anyone else that didnt find their email address(s)/domain(s) on that table?

    i searched my inbox for any emails from anything gawker and found none.

    i logged into kotaku where i havent commented since forever, and surprisingly, my email address is not in my profile.
    did i sign up at a time when they werent asking for email addresses?

    even though i wont be logging into that site ever again, i changed the password to something i will never remember, and no one will likely crack in my lifetime, just to be safe.

    a couple questions spring to mind.

    what is the best way to "erase" your data on optical media?

    toss em into a fire and let them melt? lets see them recover that smoldering mess.

    then, what to replace your optical media with?

    i can only carry so many usb sticks. isnt data recovery from formatted solid state drives extremely time-consuming, if not difficult?

    with the advent of cheap and high capacity hard drives, i have not burnt anything to an optical medium in maybe 2 - 3 years? there is simply no need. i would like to continue this pattern, but i want my data to be quickly and easily disposed of if need be.

    what if the data is of questionable nature (warez, movies, political literature, etc)? are there policies that allow the company to report certain content?
    how can one be assured that the data on the hard drive will be transferred back to its owner without anyone seeing its contents?
    are there recovery outfits out there who do not discriminate and compromise your data?
