    My former colleagues in the USA were more concerned with NOT losing their job while on vacation than promotion or salary hikes. That was why they didn't take their vacation days. The thought of taking four weeks (20 days) holiday in one go was just not on their radar.
    It is so easy to fire people in the USA compared to Europe. There are all sorts of legal procedures that you have to go through such as written warnings etc that firing someone for taking their legal vacation would not be allowed. If a company did it then they'd be breaking the law. The same goes for firing someone who is ill in Hospital.

    The constant stream of Avderts on the TV screen stopped for an announcement.

    At the time of the announcement, Winston was sleeping. His latest 16 hour shift at the burger joint has gone to 20 hours. Winston was happy that he'd earned enough to actually buy a new bed. The last one although only two years old had life expired and turned to dust in front of him. since then he'd been sleeping on the floor of his 2m x 3m pod in Amazon City.

    Wasn't there a story recently where Johnny Depp was fed his lines in the Movie through an earpiece because he couldn't be bovvered to learn them they were so bad? (or something like that)

    Don't worry ToughLove, Apple will be next in the firing line the day after they release anything with the word 'reality' in the description.
    After all, Apple being the biggest company in the world, they also have the deepest pockets. Despite the likes on Nokia, Samsung, Quallcomm and the rest all wanting part of their cash hoard, there will be more than enough to spread amongst all the other Patent Trolls based in East Texas.

    Do people really think that they will put up with this surveillance 24/7? At home, at the movies with the family? Well it will track you if you carry any workplace issued kit (eg a phone) with you.

    If the thing is that fragile could they have another Note 7 on the cards?
    If it is that bad, I'd expect an awful lot of returns and their warranty costs will skyrocket.
    What dropping the phone not covered by the warranty? That will do their reputation a lot of harm and after the note 7 fiasco, it could be a financial disaster for Samsung.

    Now, if the forthcoming iPhone 8 is as robust as others then a lot of people will be heading in that direction rather than going with the S8.

    Time to get the popcorn in. This has a long wat to go.

    Where you need a permit to do just about everything

    As the 1st Ammendment trumps State law then Oregon should lose the case but IANAL (at least in America) and I'm an Engineer (CENG) by education and profession but there is no way in Hell that I'm ever gonna stump up dues to keep my job. That is not a free society.

    It is any wonder that the rest of the world looks at the USA and goes 'sheesh?' and they put up with this crap?
    Any society that imposes laws like this is doomed to die a long slow death.

    Britain has around 200years worth of coal underground (at 1980's usage levels) and that's where most of it will stay.
    Much of it is a much higher grade than the Lignite that is being used in Power Stations in some countries. Lignite is a bigger polluter tonne for tonne than Anthracite.

  25. Linux had many different desktops but like Microsoft, they thought that one desktop from phone/tablet to mega server would rulez!
    It was an admirable aim but personally, I never thought that it would work.
