Go to the store. Do you see: - Tide - Scope - Crest
All of these coming from a company called Procter and Gamble. They also have Bounce, Dawn, Ivory, Joy, Bounty, Cheer, Gain, Secret, Old Spice, Cover Girl, Max Factor, Always, Zest, Herbal Essences, Glide, and Pampers. I think the dictionary test goes out the window with this one.
So when will microsoft start forcing people to install IE7 to upgrade/install something else? That's the last thing I want to download when working on dialup. Must remember to keep my usb stick updated so I won't have to.
Being a Purdue grad in chemical engineering (ChE) with a CS minor, I felt fortunate to have a graduating ChE class of half women (2004). When in my CS classes of 100+ students, you could count the number of women on one hand (maybe two hands for the first freshman level class... Oooh, java).
Hanging out (studying, working, partying, drinking) with a mixed gender crowd was a whole lot more fun with my ChE friends. Not to say my CS friends weren't great, but there's just something about women (besides breasts) that makes any social gathering much more enjoyable. It's a shame more women don't join CS. Maybe they just smell better, but having some sort of balance helps the classroom.
I thought.NET was supposed to make your computer more secure. Or, maybe it only makes sure your personal data is sent securly back to the advertising company. Anyways, it appear to not be working...
How much would a new telescope cost? I mean, $1 billion is a lot for repair costs -- if a new one costs somewhere around there, why not just replace hubble altogether?
$1.5 billion. But that was just to build it. NASA claims it would cost much less to service and repair the Hubble rather than to launch a new one into service.
That sure beats Verizon's current best offering at my home. But seriously, I could only get 16.8 kbps on dialup until I called them over 10 times and they finally fixed the lines. Now I can get 45 - 50 kbps with random cut outs. High speed is only available for me via satelite.
So when will it come to the point when all electricity, television, telephone, internet, and all other communication come through a single pipe to everyone's home? Who gets to own it? Will there be DRM on my electricity to determine what devices I can use it on (say CD/DVD burners?) And what of my crazy neighbor that has the occasional "accident" with a backhoe just up the street?
Personally, I don't like all my eggs in one basket, and I don't like having a single service provider for everthing.
What if it happens on a Sunday night before Christmas? Are they going to have operators standing by to get me working again?
Well, for one Christmas, my parents paid for some new hardware, including a new motherboard and processor. Of course, WinXP wanted to activate on the reinstall and didn't recognize the new hardware as the same computer, so I called the activation line at 9 pm on New Year's Eve. I was taken care of right away by an operator without a single minute on hold. So, yes, they really do have 24/7 tech support.
Well, it seems to be an offering in good will, but can I trust Real to provide a (relatively) quality player without jacking up the rest of my system? I managed to clean it up in Windows after a lot of tweaking to just be a nice, no web browsing, file type hijacking, no nonsense just play the damn Real formats player. Can I do the same under linux?
Peter: So I was sitting in my cubical today, and I realized, ever since I started working, um, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that it means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life.
Dr. Swanson: What about today? Is today the worst day of your life?
Spybot S&D will do this too. If you choose the advanced mode, and then Tools from the left side, you get a list of all processes that execute at system startup, with the option of disabling or removing them.
Browse through some of the other tools too. Some of them are pretty slick.
you are stealing bandwidth and content without also viewing the means for which the web site creates enough revenue for the web site to sustain itself
Most ads only pay out per click, not per view. So are you stealing from such a website if you don't click on the ads, to give them a tiny sliver of money, even if you don't block the ads?
So, by not loading the ads i won't click on anyways, I might actually be saving the site some bandwidth while yielding the same income from the advertisers?
You do realize that if we run out of oil, we are losing much more than just an energy source. Here is a short list of some things made from crude oil.
The medical industry relies on oil for hearing aids, bandages, artificial limbs, heart valves, and contact lenses. The pharmaceutical industry needs oil for the complex carbon chains that form the basis of most medications available today.
who doesn't want my bandwith used to support someone else's business? (I'm guessing no.)
In free P2P, while someone is downloading my music files, I or someone else can theoretically get something back from them. In this system, a user pays money to a third party, that points that person to my computer and uses my bandwith to deliver the file, and I cannot get any compensation. In contrast, iTunes supplies their own bandwith.
If I am misunderstanding something, please enlighten me, because this sounds ridiculous.

In high school, i had a copy of sol.exe and winmine.exe on my network account. Teachers often asked me how they could get it on their accounts too.
Ah, alt-tab. The new-age boss key!

my $0.02
Can someone set up a torrent to view the torrent site? It's a little slow right now.

Well, the last time I had to call the activation line (new hardware), I called them at 9 pm on New Years Eve in 2003. I got right through!!
Even better logo.
Sorry to reply to my own post, but the 1.5 billion was to both build and put the Hubble into orbit.

Microsoft bought WebTV an awful long time ago.
I seem to recall WebTV as an option that I always unchecked during a Windows 98 install. Seems it's been on the to do list for quite some time.

Peter: Yeah
Dr. Swanson: Wow, that's messed up... I'm sorry.
I find one I like and realize that the 240w PS just isn't gonna cut it with my Geforce 6800.
:-)
I think a 240w PS should be adequate for your GeForce 6800. Now for the rest of the system, just make sure you get another 300w PS or better.

That said, I'm also confused why this article was labeled as "IT".
It is listed under games as well.

Also, if you left work after dark, lots of people would try to sell you, uh, things on your way to your car.
... :'(
That's why people live and work in cities. Try getting that kind of convenience in a rural area.
Try getting high speed internet or even dialup that doesn't disconnect when the trees shake in the wind. I'm hoping for that BPL to come through soon!
btw, I'm currently connected at 16.8 kbps
A big improvement would be if ... it showed you a dialog to "release" individual popups.
You can. Just click on the blue "popup blocked" icon in the status bar on the right, and voila! You get an option to show the popup it just blocked.
