The term "supercomputer" and "cluster" is used frequently throughout the article and the comments. As I don't deal at all with those things...Could someone help out the less knowledgable and explain. Thanks

  3. Re:Good Move Microsoft!!!! on Microsoft to Disable Online Windows Activation · · Score: 1, Insightful

You make a good point here. The removal of online activation doesn't have a large impact on the "average" user. People buying their machines off the shelves don't have to worry about product activation and chances are that upon their machine being infected with everything under the sun they will take it somewhere to be fixed. The people affected here are the support people and although this sucks it's not going to cause any major migration from windows to something else. You could spend a while on the phone or you could spend all day answering questions from users who shouldn't be within 15 feet of a computer.

Do you really need a computer to pop popcorn? The technology and innovation is appreciated but come on...it's popcorn. We're hardly going to solve the worlds problems if the main focus of computing in engineering is a popcorn machine.

  5. Scapegoat on Grand Theft Auto Led Teen to Kill · · Score: 1, Insightful

Games have nothing to do with anything. It takes a certian mentality in order to kill and games just don't have the influence to alter someone's mentality. What ever happened to responsibility for your actions. Instead of banning violent games they should ban people from making dumbass excuses for the things that they do.

How long is it gonna take for people to find a way around this. It's a cheap attempt by M$ and it will be beaten (just like Napster ;))

when are they going to start more aggressively perusing other options as opposed to transistors. I do recall hearing Intel was in the process of researching the use of light processors, but haven't heard anything since. Electrons move at about 3cm/s light moves at 3.0x10^08m/s: do the math. A wall will be hit with electricity (no matter how long it takes). Why not think in leaps not baby steps? Personally I could live with 3GHz processing speeds for a few years if that meant that the next step up would be say 10GHz.

$85 is an improvment over $135 yet still too much. It doesn't appear as though it is going to be a sustainable price, given the market at the moment. It seems as though investors stand to loose money.

I think this statement is completely backwards. You can give someone the tools; ie. tell them what the gas and brake are for, but under no circumstances can you make them use them (properly) or understand the full consequences of not using them this is especially true for users who are not technically inclined.
