The term "supercomputer" and "cluster" is used frequently throughout the article and the comments. As I don't deal at all with those things...Could someone help out the less knowledgable and explain. Thanks
You make a good point here. The removal of online activation doesn't have a large impact on the "average" user. People buying their machines off the shelves don't have to worry about product activation and chances are that upon their machine being infected with everything under the sun they will take it somewhere to be fixed. The people affected here are the support people and although this sucks it's not going to cause any major migration from windows to something else. You could spend a while on the phone or you could spend all day answering questions from users who shouldn't be within 15 feet of a computer.
Do you really need a computer to pop popcorn? The technology and innovation is appreciated but come on...it's popcorn. We're hardly going to solve the worlds problems if the main focus of computing in engineering is a popcorn machine.
Games have nothing to do with anything. It takes a certian mentality in order to kill and games just don't have the influence to alter someone's mentality. What ever happened to responsibility for your actions. Instead of banning violent games they should ban people from making dumbass excuses for the things that they do.
How long is it gonna take for people to find a way around this. Over the years software manufactures have done their best to ensure we don't steal their stuff...but low and behold...I write this message from a pirated copy of windows. It's a cheap attempt by M$ and it will be beaten (just like Napster;))
when are they going to start more aggressively perusing other options as opposed to transistors. I do recall hearing Intel was in the process of researching the use of light processors, but haven't heard anything since. Electrons move at about 3cm/s light moves at 3.0x10^08m/s: do the math. A wall will be hit with electricity (no matter how long it takes). Why not think in leaps not baby steps? Personally I could live with 3GHz processing speeds for a few years if that meant that the next step up would be say 10GHz.
You're useless comments show absolutely no insight nor do they demonstrate that you even have a brain capable of anything more than not wetting your bed in the middle of the night. Don't waste space with you're crap.
$85 is an improvment over $135 yet still too much. It doesn't appear as though it is going to be a sustainable price, given the market at the moment. It seems as though investors stand to loose money.
You can't put somebody in a car and tell them to drive, but not tell them what the brake and gas pedal are for
I think this statement is completely backwards. You can give someone the tools; ie. tell them what the gas and brake are for, but under no circumstances can you make them use them (properly) or understand the full consequences of not using them this is especially true for users who are not technically inclined.
The fact that they are having one giant argument about where to put this thing, to the extent that it halted the process, is pathetic and shows how petty the countries involved are. It is obvious that they are not interested in the science and simply want to be able to say "look what we have".
and an excellent use of today's technology to benefit people in need, however does it take into account that people who are using food stamps probably won't have a computer to play these games on?
I agree that the Security is absolutely nesessary for this and other monuments however, it leads to the question of what is next? There are many monuments (not only buildings / statues) in the US. For example the Golden Gate Bridge; perhaps the most well known and revered bridge in the world. What are the security precautions taken there? Are we going to have to get out of our cars and empty our trunks? Is is going to become similar to a boarder crossing?

Not too dumb...I was going to ask the exact same thing, however at the risk of redunancy I'll piggy back on your post.

a tamigotchi for post pubescent people, frightening
In a way, but this actually faciliates the growth of 'real' coral as opposed to providing an instant habitat.
I would hope so. The world should be so lucky
perhaps technically a majority but when speaking in terms of 63 and 61 million people is it even worth reporting?
typo. What can you do?

security purposes
better standards support, performance enhancements and several hundred other bug fixes. is AOL Microsoft?

can't they just kiss and make up?
We can't avoid Microsoft or Hollywood... maybe we should start complaining?

if he got off the ground then crashed. Probably would have made them rethink the whole ridiculous idea. Dr. Vegas
I got one too, (3.06) but you're point is made
