well its way better than making someone who had very little skills to start with trying to tinker with this and that just to get one component of his machine work. Then spend 10+ hrs on IRC and web forums trying to get another component to work..
I program on *nix at work. And I can tell you, *nix has a long long way to go in terms of usability for the average Jo.
"A team of researchers from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) has successfully demonstrated, for the first time, that it is possible to control the speed of light - both slowing it down and speeding it up - in an optical fiber, using off-the-shelf instrumentation in normal environmental conditions.
"The US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) considers it so important that it has been funnelling millions of dollars into projects such as "Applications of Slow Light in Optical Fibers" and research on all-optical routers."
well the best way to aquire the sensors would be to figure out how they work and are made.
at the heart of things.. most sensor data is obtained by looking at changes in voltage/current.
I am no longer involved in this type stuff(my background is SoftEng/TelecommEng), I don't have an EE degree. I picked most of the stuff by reading manuals etc. All I do right now is program apps on PCs and microcontrollers. I live in Canada, so if u come across any good electronics supplier (besides digiKey let me know). I can't afford digiKey prices.:(
The only place I can think of in terms of sensors, where my company buys stuff from is digiKey
one of the challenges we faced was that we had a very small budget, so we weren't able to buy all the sensors that we needed.
The body fat/sugar sensor that I wanted would analyze body sweat. For the temp sensor is used a DS1620 chip For the heart rate monitor, department BS prevented us from getting one in time. So I just used a capacitor circuit to simulate the heartBeats.
seems to me like Miro paid developers to write software. Opened a foundation (what are the ramifications of such a foundation?) without speaking to the developers. Devs got mad and left?
I also went to the Miro website and it said that Mambo is an OSS project.
My final project in Uni (2yrs ago) was basically a watch like this. It was supposed to measure heart rate, body fat, blood sugar etc and store it in the EEPROM. This data would then be available for dl via a wireless link like blueTooth. And then ur doctor or u could check your data. I built/programmed most of the framework to interact with the sensors and store the data, and my partner wrote an app in Java which you could use to dl your data and plot/examine ur progress.
Too bad we didn't have any business skills to pursue the idea.:(
A friend of mine had been working for whiteSpot for about 5 or 6 yrs as a server.
He was studying comp sci with me. In his first yr, he made a Duke Nukem Map with the whiteSpot logo in one of the maps.
Anyway, he forgot about this. In our fourth year, he informs me that whiteSpot just fired him on the spot because of the map. They didn't ask him to take it down or anything. They just fired him. He showed me some screenShots of the map, and it didn't seem like he was defaming whiteSpot. To me it looked more like free, unintended advertising for whiteSpot.
Hmm.. I guess I got all excited about Longhorn a couple of yrs ago over nothing.
Its a bit disappointing that they will not be including a lot of the proposed features. But maybe they are trying a new approach. Its better to not release a product at all, rather than release a half assed product that will need updates every month.
The strength of the MS OS is in its Desktop users, not its Server users. They shouldn't forget that. Having advanced features on something as useful as a shell interface available only for its server release is pretty much saying that these users are dumb. The new OS might please the avg Joe with its fancy interface, but I think I'll stick with XP.
The European prisons are filled with 10-25 yr olds who were arrested for using P2P software to dl illegal versions of the top 10 songs on the music charts. I'm glad we got those evil ppl out of the way..
Doesn't it bother ppl in the US and the gov itself that what they are doing is endorsing a big brother government.
"Canadians and Mexicans, who fall under special immigration rules, are exempt from needing the chip."
So I guess this new policy is not going to affect me since I'm Canadian.
"Even with the radio frequency technology, however, the vehicle will still have to stop. If a person's identifying data produce no red flags, they will get just a cursory check at the border rather than lengthy questioning."
"Members of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation met Wednesday with Mocny to discuss their concerns. They came away hoping the new technology may in fact help to fight racial and religious profiling."
"Karen Mock, the foundation's executive director, said she hears stories of people with "Middle Eastern-sounding names or darker complexions" being stopped and questioned frequently. She said technology could help by eliminating the possibility of stereotyping."
I call bull. Me and my darker skinned friends have been stopped numerous time and questioned till kingdom come; and we are Canadian. They can still make pretenses for bugging us.
"Radio frequency antennae have been installed at the border crossings at Thousand Islands Bridge in Alexandria Bay, New York; and Blaine, Washington, crossings for the Pacific Highway and Peace Arch. The technology will also be launched next week at two crossings between Mexico and Nogales, Arizona."
So I guess the border which I visit in Blaine is going to have this new system.
What I don't understand is how this is actually going to stop them from still harassing me, and reducing border waits?
"If Microsoft went through with this, for example, a significant portion of valid e-mails would never reach intended Hotmail recipients."
Umm... its already happening. A number of my friends and I have noticed that e-mails we send sometimes end up going to the Junk E-mail folder. And yes, its already starting to tick a number of ppl off, forcing them to use other means.
Things that aid learning: Learning by looking at examples, applications and practical labs which enable you to learn. Feedback from assignments and access to solutions. Better access to instructors.
Things that do not work: Overloading students with obscene amounts of information that make them memorize information rather than understand it. Lack of feedback from instructors. Learning out of date material. Getting taught by instructors with an ego problem. Gettting taughts by instructors who had no professional conduct skills.
One of the saddest things in most English classes is that when you write essays, the instructors mark you based very sad criteria. And that in return doesn't really help you write good material. When I was in first year university, I came across this book called 'Logic and Complete Rethoric' which basically shows you how to structure your sentences etc. Maybe if I was taught that in school, I would be able to write better essays on my provincials.
I didn't proof read my posting on slashDot and don't use proper words while writing an informal post. Nothing wrong with that.
Do you speak to you boss the same way when you are chilling with ur buddies in ur backYard?
About not learning anything in school, what I implied was schools focus a lot on trying to teach you everything and end up bombarding you with information. The end result is that you end up just memorizing a lot of the information and not understanding it at all. Just because you know the definition of something, doesn't mean know how it works. Knowing about something and understanding how something works are two different things.
"Arthur Sorkin, who responded to an unsolicited invitation to interview with MS back in 2000. But instead of trying to sell him on the company or the job, interviewers challenged him with a technical 'pop quiz.' Sorkin, who holds a PhD in CS, withdrew his application."
Ok, so let me get this straight. He got called for an interview but didn't want to get tested on his knowledge. Seems like arrogance and pride to me.
Most jobs now a days ask you to take an exam or some sort. Just because u got a Bachelors, Masters or Phd doens't mean u know ur stuff. I gradded with a bunch of ppl who got better GPA's than me, but don't really know much at all.
If I was hiring someone, I'd give them a test cause I've been through the system and I know for a fact that GPA doesn't mean jack, considering the fact that u don't even learn much in school in the first place.
About scheduling an interview for him without asking him, doesn't sound too great either and seems arrogant on MS's HR departments side.
I worked for Revenue Canada last year while I was in school at a Data Entry Clerk.
We used to have our wpm logged all the time and at the end of each week, our manager would tell us how productive how many wpm we had and how many errors we made on the tax forms(there were ppl who used to re-check the data entered). And based on how good ur keystrokes were, you would be elig.. for the next season. And depending on how many years you worked they increase the requirement.
Seems like a pretty good system, however sometimes you can be slow and its not even your fault. I've had ppl who forget to enter their name, address, postal code, sin#, or ppl who can't add etc.. and then everytime they screw up, we have to go through the manual to figure out how to deal with it.
I wonder how this ruling would affect the CCRA employees.

About a year or so ago, I installed the google desktop bar, and I noticed that it also installed spyware on my machine.
Anyone else notice this? Or does the google desktop bar not do this anymore?

Does anyone have an idea when the macMinis are coming out with x86 chips..
i'm just wondering how they cool those puppies..

no non-reusable = !(!reusable) =!(!1)=!0=1=reusable
can't they just say reusable??
The sex mini game is the last thing I'd care about in a game like GTA. I don't think any parent in their right mind would buy the game for their kid.
Regarding the sex:
Ever watch TV these days, almost every show has something to do with sex, sex jokes, getting laid, sex with the partner etc etc..
Gimme a break..
Anyone have any idea if Shaw is doing anything similary in Canada? I live in the Vancouver area, any ideas on if its coming there?
