Miles per Gallon is the silly figure. It's so silly it's practically useless.
Hypothetical time! Let's say that my neighbour and I work at the same building, 25 miles from home.
I drive my car at 50 mpg on the way to work and therefore burn 0.5 gallons of fuel. If on the way home I'm more frugal and drive at 55 mpg, I burn 0.455 gallons of fuel. A saving of 0.045 gallons over this morning's run.
Now let's say my neighbour's car's a bit more economical and he can drive to work at 70mpg, using 0.357 gallons on the way. If he follows my frugal lead and is careful on the way home he too saves 5 mpg and so at 75mpg only uses 0.333 gallons of fuel.
His "light foot" exercise nets him a saving of 0.024 gallons. From this we can see that an extra 5 mpg going from 50 - 55 mpg is more worthwhile than going from 70 - 75 mpg. Almost twice as effective.
That's why mpg is a silly value as every time someone posts a new "high score" they are actually posting less and less of an improvement.
l/100km give you an accurate, unbiased view of fuel consumption.
"A series of drawings is a series of graphic works, not a single graphic work in itself. No-one would say that the copyright in a single drawing of Felix the Cat is infringed by a drawing of Donald Duck. A series of cartoon frames showing Felix running over a cliff edge into space, looking down and only then falling would not be infringed by a similar set of frames depicting Donald doing the same thing. That is in effect what is alleged here."
This is similar to the Lexulous (formerly Scrabulous) case, where the games makers were forced to make minor changes, including a rename, as it was too close a copy of Scrabble.
That's not the first occurance of history repeating itself through telecomms. I rememeber when we had both K56flex and X2 competing for the 56kbps modem standard and ended up with V.90. My ISP had 2 different phone numbers to call depending on what modem you had.
Exactly the same thing happened then as did with the 11g and now 11n situations, one firmware update and suddenly everything plays well with each other.
Wow, touched a nerve there, good thing I had my flame suit on!
Sorry, I thought when you said "macs and os x for games" you meant Macs and OS X as two separate items, not as a single platform.
I'll agree wholeheartedly with the OS X is a shitty platform for games, and it hacks me off that the industry sees the Transgaming/Cedega/Cider thing as "supporting" mac as a platform, because it really, really isn't. There's no legitimate reason for it not to be, it's all the same hardware and there is OpenGL support, it's just a shame that the game developers like DirectX more.
The reason that I can probably ramp up the settings is because the 24" iMac comes with what is supposed to be an 8800 GS, but is really an 8800M GTS with 512MB VRAM and I spec'd the RAM up to 4GB. I've done the willy-waggling thing with custom PCs before and have had nothing but headaches throughout the process, so I can't be bothered any more. I have a life outside of computers, so the time I do spend with them I like them to be working, rather than be working on them.
When I buy from Apple they warranty the whole system rather than just the components so if something does go wrong I just package up the lot and ship it off, rather than tearing the rig down and eliminating the dodgy components myself. I used to be an IT guy, but I've moved to software development specifically to get away from that.
Guess I imagined playing Warhammer last night, on release day with my iMac straight from Apple, where I turned the resolution up to 1920x1200 and pushed every visual slider to max?
Simply wait at the red until the cyclist pulls level with the front of your car, then give 'em a blast of the ol' horn. It helps if you're at the head of the queue. There's nothing funnier than watching a cyclist try to catch his breath as he wobbles across an empty junction in full view of thirty other pissed off motorists.
In the UK at least half of all domestic construction uses timber frame for the load-bearing structure with simple block and render for the outer skin which provides none of the structural support. Come up to Scotland and practically every building less than 5 storeys high is made using a timber frame.
The trick in making a building fireproof isn't in making the structure fireproof, but in stopping the fire from getting to the structure in the first place. That's the why every wall and ceiling is made from plasterboard of some kind, because they provide the 30 and 60 mins of fire resistance, not the studs or the joists.
I'd provide figures to back my assertions, but my books and magazines are in another office.
Sorry, my point was more along the lines that if you are trying to be a smart-ass, try to be a correct smart-ass. Nothing hurts like the shame of having someone call you up on something when you were being a dick to them to begin with. Misquoting K&R to a C Programmer is like misquoting The Bible to a Priest.

They may be completely legible, however by using them you are obstructing the police's ability to do their job. That is a crime.
That or they'll just give you an asbo, the cure all for non-crimes that they want to do you for anyways.
It might not be fair, but you should never have to use a spray/plate anyway. If you honestly believe you have a valid reason for doing whatever speed you're doing then appeal against the fine.
That's the beauty of watching sports like rugby, played at home on the BBC's digital service.
Just hit that red button on the remote and you can change the sound source to ref's mic and pick up what he and all the players are saying. You can still hear the crowd in the backgound too. It is almost like being at the match.
This is the sports experience that any fan is after.
the real reason for the Winamp 2, 3, 5 version numbers is because 5 = 2 + 3.
Everybody loved v2 and when v3 came along, it hogged memory, crashed everywhere and generally ran like a dog. They then went out and built the capabilities of 3 into the code base of 2 hence the 2+3=5.
That said, it's still not a very good numbering system - but at least there is some logic to it.
It could use the option that Nokia went with for some of there phones that had FM Radio.
They actually included the antenna in the headphone cable and used a 5way jack rather than a 3way jack for connecting them up.
It worked pretty well for the FM Radio, however I'm not a radio tech, so I have no idea whether that would be a viable option for the satellites' frequencies.
Sorry, I never realised it would use both processors.
The only dev work I've done on the DS has been fairly small, my gba flasher is playing up so everything I've done, I've kept as compatable with the emus as possible.
Is there any particular reason it needs both processors, what functions is it providing at this stage that aren't available via emulation?
Now don't quote me on this but i'm pretty sure gnu octave uses gnuplot as its engine.
It's syntax is fairly similar to several large expensive math packages and it's fairly easy once you get the hang of it (just like everything in life).
Yeah, great. The PSP has a web browser. What's the next PSP hack that slashdot will report on? Google have hacked the PSP so you can check you mail on GMail?
Does this actually matter - it's main rival the DS can already have arbitrary code run on it and great leaps and bounds are being made into deciphering WiNi/NiFi every week. There is already a gcc and set of libraries for it and we can actually make games and have several active emulators.
And the PSP has a web browser? Great... my phone five years ago had one of those.
Perhaps they signed up using a redirecting email address and then pointed it to the target?
This could also explain why there was a user receiving mail when they weren't on the list.

That last one is a press release from June 2003 where they talk about Samba 3 in Mac OS X.
Plus you could always format the ext. drive with FAT32 and pretty much every modern OS could access it.
Hell, if you were that determined you could simply pipe dd through netcat and be done with it.
My immediate query is how well will this work with Apple's BootCamp? Could this cripple / force a re - install of OS X on a BootCamp machine?
Could this be some shot across the bows of Apple? Windows ain't done, 'til OS X won't run?
Maybe I've just been sipping too much conspiracy Kool-aid...
