  1. Re:Tax increases on Japan Striving For Energy Efficiency · · Score: 1

Taxes are never the answer. Taxes would lead to more revenue for the government which would then take that money to create an energy bill(like the one here in the US) that basically gives the money back to the entrenched power companies so that they can find new ways to make oil cheaper. The answer is not tax increases but ceasing government intervention in business(subsidies). Especially when they clearly favor one business(oil) over others.

By the time you get the first two words out, you could have dialed the number and established a real time connection with someone. Factor in their response also through txt, and voice to voice is far superior. Txt msgs are good if your still in highschool and you want to "pass notes" to a friend.

Not sure if that company is around anymore, but their keyboard was perfect(right size, right springs, ressistant to all foods and drinks)and I used it for a good 8-9 years until it literally fell apart. But if you want to save $80, just use a kepyboard for that long and the letters will just wear right off. Granted another year of use will cause the keyboard to fall apart, but your saved $80 should buy you at least 10 keyboards.

Why not have everyone vote on every subject. And allow them to change that vote at any time. With the internet it would be very easy(assuming security/id theft ect. aren't a problem). There would still be a need for a president of sorts, and maybe a few other "true" public servants, but not the mess we have in DC right now. No need for senators to decide how people should live, people can decide how they should live.

  13. Re:Protect culture? on Canadian ISP to Name Music Swappers · · Score: 1

I completely agree with you on this. Good musicians can offer free music and expect to sell out their shows. A bad musician can't because they often suck playing live(and even if they're good playing live their music sucks). That and the bad ones, I'll use Spears as an example, have an audience that range in age from 8 to 13, and that age group isn't know for spending big bucks on concerts. The main fear of the music industry, however, is not that they own the rights to mostly bad bands, it's that the only reason a band signs a contract is for their superior distribution capabilities. Take that away by offering your music free online, and large music companies are pointless. I disagree with the music industry's fight, but I understand. They are fighting for their survival. That said, what's your band, I'll come out and support you. If your good.

I am in full agreement here. Our country has become a breeding ground for complainers, whiners, and people who are not responsible for anything. When a kid fails, it's the teachers fault, or the government isn't funding education enough, or, in this case, computers are to blame. I would have to say almost 95% of the time the parents and the student are the ones at fault, mostly the student. You don't want to learn, your not going to learn. Maybe we should rethink the idea of forcing kids to go to school. Perhaps the system should be set up so that children have to make the decision themselves if they want to learn and get educated.

I haven't once heard someone from NASA say somethng like, we would really like to build a telescope on the darkside of the moon(I heard once that is an ideal place), we have the funds to do it, but congress decided we need more safety research or whatever.

Don't take the word "matter" to mean it has to be something solid, something 3 dimensional. You can use the words "dark energy", "dark gravity", and "dark matter" to mean the same thing I believe. Dark matter can be another universe influencing our own somehow, or it could be another dimension that effects ours.

Besides the fact that eventually these "free" or "cheap" government broadband services will be subsidized if not completely paid for by our taxes, which means you will pay for it and end up paying a lot more then you normally would, the thought of the government running an information network is too scary to think of. Imagine the rules and regulations they would start to add on to their service(they are doing this already). Everything you type one day would have to be recorded, you would need to get permission to d/l something, the sytem would NEVER get upgraded, ect. Not to mention the laws they would pass to keep the govn't system up and running while making it extremly hard for companies to compete. Any government, whether large or small, is worse then any corporation no matter how big. Just think of this, any government can FORCE you to do or not do something, no corporation can do that. You have to buy a company's products or services, your forced to pay for government. And to this day, I still have not benefitted off of anything from the government and I doubt anyone else has off my taxes.

10 days to go around Australia? I think that can be done. I made it from Perth to Sydney in a little over 3 days. It would have been well under 3 if my car didn't break down 5 times and I didn't stop so many times for "entertainment expenses". Anyway, I don't think it would be all that expensive to install these lines on the Aussie continent because everyone lives in urban clusters. Companies would only have to install last mile wiring in a few places, and everywhere in between would be one fat bundle easily laid next to a railroad or something. Part of the problem is in the pricing system these companies have set up. If you live in the middle of nowhere, like many places here in the states, then you should have to pay a lot more for your connection, if not have to pay someone yourself to get the wires laid down. Although I would love to see everyone on a super fast broadband connection, I'm really upset at the attempts by governments and companies trying to make the internet equal for all. Instead of pouring more money into maintaining and upgrading the existing infrastructure in cities and their metro areas, they are spending it to lay a line through a desert so that Uncle Bob Redneck can have a fast connection at his slaughter cabin, um, hunting cabin.
