That picture is creepy. Like Ally McBeal and Tiny Tim rolled into one. I, for one, find nothing realiztic about that picture, and in fact makes parent's point.
This is exactly not the way to help their cause. Selling a browser as "See fewer ads" sends a nasty message to content providers. They already aren't enthused enough about the ease of blocking ad content, but making this part of a default distro would put an even worse taste in their mouth.
Depends on the show. A show like Law and Order was natively shot in HD, and its shown in HD. For movies, again, it depends. When they showed the Matrix is was true HD, however there have been a few that were just upconverts. Saving Private Ryna was not an upconvert and looked amazing.
The quality of existing DVDs is quite amazing and I think most people will be happy with it for a while.
Watch a movie being shown on TNT-HD versus the DVD you own. Watch the HD broadcast of this years Rose bowl, and compare it to the DVD you can buy. Night and day. Watch an HD episode of CSI, and compare it to the DVD. There's a difference. You think DVD's are amazing because you're comparing it to VHS, when you can put side by side a 1080i video versus a 480p DVD, you'll see the hype.
This will probably get lost because it's so deep in the comments, but the reason isn't technical, it's personal.
Apple was unhappy about the direct attacks AMD was making against Apple on the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) front. Look at all the inroads AMD is making into the music and video business, and some of the negative comments that were made toward Apple. It's not hard to see why they wouldn't get in bed with AMD.
the gaming industry first. Microsoft hasn't being killing PC gaming, the industry has. Lack of innovation, a sequel based mentality of game development, and the cross-platform release requirement imposed on most titles has screwed the industry.
Remember when a group of ten guys could spend a year making a game that would keep you up for weeks, like X-Com? Or an independent developer could release a game like Intelligent Qube and still turn a profit?
Now you have 60-100 people trying to make a pretty game that just fun enough for the first three levels, because that's all most of the market will play.
If I have the time and bankroll, and enough people are interested, I may try to put together a weekly geek/blogger 20+2 tournament.
I heartily endorse this product and/or service!
unless (as is the case for many of us) Opera is off the table from the start because it's not open source
People who refuse to use a useful piece of software simply because it isn't open source make about as much sense as an Ethiopian refusing food because it isn't Kosher. It fits your needs, use it.
Rollins points out constantly the customers don't want AMD hardware. If there isn't demand for a high volume of chips, why would AMD not be able to keep up?
Widescreen support in Halo 2 doesn't even come CLOSE to fixing this. You actually lose screen real estate on widescreen. They cut off the top and bottom part of the screen and enlarge the remainder - you aren't getting a wider view.
I have yet to see a game which supports widescreen actually increase the viewable area.
Of course, it's the CableCard 1.0 spec, not 2.0 it will support. No PPV, or VOD, but it's a good step.

...and gun manufacturers should be responsible for murder.

How is parent flamebait? It's the persons opinion. Has slashdot become the republican party, where we must supress views we don't agree with?
Or maybe, if you guys read the website, it would tell you yes, there is a Halo character in DOA4, but that wasn't all.

I really don't agree with that point of view. I think it is way too restrictive.
He thinks the point of view that to be open source use must be released under GPL is way too restrictive, not the GPL itself.

Not only that, but have you tried to release a closed source app for all the linux distros lately? It's a nightmare.
Maybe someone should mod parent article -1 (Flamebait).

Full Throttle.
"He seems to be criticizing the RIAA's tactics of suing their customers, when they should be kissing their asses."
Sounds like he should take his own advice. Lord knows his shift to be a music company has disillusioned many of the mac faithful of old.
Fat Actress star Kirstie Alley. This is, of couse, assuming she actually loses some weight on that damn show of hers.
Good thing I never paid Macromedia for my copy of Dreamweaver
And people like you are why they need to get a bundle of cash from Yahoo to bundle their crappy toolbar.
We paid $5,000 for Authorware because it was worth it, what have you done to support software you use?
It's not just a mailstop. And it's not just iSearch either. http://www.inprointernational.com/contact.htm

Groundbreaking? You obviously haven't tried it yet; I would consider this a bigger blow to Mapquest than them hiring Carly Fiorina as CEO.
/. is yesterday's news today.
The reason you don't see it is because your LCD has a 16ms response time, giving you approx 60 frames a seconds refresh.
