So only Google & Yahoo were "provided technology and information" - Microsoft must be feeling left out.. lucky for adobe they dont live in sweden I suppose.
I wonder why adobe didn't invite msft/live.com to the party? Sour grapes over silverlight perhaps?
It will show the down/slashdotted times (if any) straight away but we'll have to wait for the daily update to see the charts for response times, daily uptimes etc. Bet you all can't wait eh?;)
Seriously though.. seems like a bargain. Wonder how much it will cost us outside india when import duties are added and whaterver other charges the govt. piles on in various parts of the world.
We've been using it for a few months now and its great.
With a single command we can export computing tasks from our main system to a customized instance at amazon and when complete, import the resulting data. All powered by a few simple bash scripts. We can fire up any number of tasks like this and massively increase our overall processing capacity whenever needed and then shut it all down when not.
So far, after several months of running multiple instances we've not had a single failure or data loss although even if an instance had died it would make little difference since we can easily just export the tasks again at any time.
Once you get the hang of EC2 you will likely come up with all sorts of computing tasks you can 'out source' from your current systems. Overall I highly recommend it.
Amazon are not the only game in town (although a welcome addition).. personally I quite like emusic which provides plenty of drm free mp3's for a small subscription fee..
You can of course keep your downloaded mp3's after your subscription ends and while you remain a member you can re-download everything you previously downloaded as many times as you want.
You wont get the latest top of the tops crap but you will find lots of really great music in many genres such as jazz, reggae, folk, classical, rap, rock and much more.
Even better they provide a download manager for linux! From their FAQ.. Q. Does DLM 4.0 work with Vista, Linux? A. Yes, DLM 4.0 has been tested to work with Windows 98 SE, NT 4.0, 2000, XP and Vista. As well as Mac OS X (Intel & PPC), Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Fedora, Mandriva with KDE and Gnome interfaces.
Could this be just another failed launch such as the russian proton which failed about a week ago and was fueled with rather toxic hydrazine? Any satellites launched shortly before this peruvian incident?
Maybe this recoverable craft got recovered sooner than planned.
There is a couple currently on a somewhat related venture.. they plan to spend 1000 days at sea in a yacht, completely self sufficient and never touching dry land for the duration.
So far they are on day 121 and have had some 'fun' already - a collision with a freighter for example caused some significant damage which had to be repaired at sea.
The idea obviously is to (kind of) simulate a very long space journey where the crew have only themselves and what they can carry to depend on.
There are a few notable differences though such as the lack of fish to catch in space.;)
TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- After 7 long years of arduous work, Iranian scientists here on Saturday introduced a herbal medicine which cures Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
Many of those are NOT search engines at all (at most sites with a search feature) and many fairly well known, useful and actual search engines are ignored - where is technorati? where is boardtracker? blogpulse? sphere?
At least the 'author' could have done 5 mins research to find something actually relating to the title..
You've clearly never been to Asia. Rest assured you can see many examples of exactly this happening all over Asia
And so begins the great stampede of slashdot readers heading for asia.. ;)
Just enough time for a nice cup of tea.
But seriously, its cool to see progress from all these small/private space companies.. onward and upward!

what business-oriented arguments can I use to dissuade my boss from spamming?
;)
Spammers run the risk of being brutally murdered which I think is also somewhat bad for business..

Obviously this is the result of U2 manager Paul McGuinness calling on ISP's to disconnect the evil file sharers of the world..
;)
"To great applause from the audience of music managers, McGuinness insisted that disconnection enforcement would work."
How right he was!

which companies could look their communities in the eye after selling to Microsoft?
Methinks the founders will be too busy cruising around on their shiny new megayachts to worry about such things.. and why not?

British food is the blandist sh** you have ever tasted.
Clearly you have no clue.. traditional British food such as chicken tikka masala or a fine vindaloo is not bland in any way shape or form!

Which is not to say that investing $6.5M in a company run by a 12yo makes much sense but stranger things have happened at sea.. or so they say.

I doubt it could get much worse.
It's the middle east - it always gets worse.
