I bought a 24-pack box of Rothmans in a local store in Riyadh when age 9. I then smoked about half of the box with a friend over the next months. Like Clinton...we didn't inhale;)
Now only if we could sue the US Patent Office for damages due to erroneous acceptance/rejection of patents...
This would certainly slow down the patent decision process, but could result in restraining abusive patents such as patenting a stick
Any lawyer out there have an opinion on the chances of succeding?
Free publicity. How often do US senators give air time to a game?
How many kids are now asking their older siblings "please, can you get a copy for me?"
Great marketing move.
There are already so called "soundseeing" audio guide tours which can be downloaded to your favorite mp3 player. Museums, City tours.
The color screen iPod can now show album art from podcasts. So I could very well imagine an audio tour which at every site shows you a picture of what is being described and then showing you an arrow or mini map of which direction to take next.
I've tried to get Zurich tourism board interested in creating such free audio tours, but no response yet. Maybe all those tour guides do not want to lose their jobs?
I can imagine a service where the local tourist information center allows you to download (or rents) out an iPod with color screen to visitors complete with various audio-picture guides.
So why create another proprietary HW-SW package to do the same thing already available?

The article seems fundamentally flawed.
Extract 1: "If it bears out, it will challenge one of medicine's most fundamental beliefs: that people need to coat themselves with sunscreen whenever they're in the sun."
I seriously doubt that statement is widely substantiated by research. Any high school student should know that Vitamin D is good and is produced by your own body when exposed to sunlight. Suncream is used to protect the skin to exposure from too much of the "damaging" rays.
Extract 2:"
The vitamin is D(...).Sunscreen blocks its production..."
Total sunblock which filters out all rays, would block Vitamin D production. But you'd need to apply that thickly to all exposed skin; something that in practise is very rare. Most people apply a thin layer to the most exposed skin and don't do this regularly. So they have enough Vitamin D production. One only needs 10 minutes exposure to sunlight per day to ensure suffiicient vitamin D production.
So the whole article "boils" down to "hey, Vitamin D production through sunlight is necessary, unless you want to live on vitamin supplements". Big deal.
As iTunes 4.9 is already iPhone enabled, will the phone sync only over cable or also wireless? If BT, could this potentially allow tunes sharing with other phones or computers?
Clearly the networks would disallow any tunes sending. So do you think it will be drm'd somehow?
I agree with the lack of built-in support for turning MP3 to bookmarkable. I'll keep using iPodderx for the moment.
Regarding your remark "I don't see any kind of support for video podcasts ", macbidouille.com http://www.macbidouille.com/niouzcontenu.php?date= 2005-06-28#11209 mentions that iTunes 4.9 has a reference to "VideosParty". Maybe this will be in release 5.0?
Just a snippet which could help substantiate the rumours.
Adam Curry, who has launched podshow.com with a podcasting channel on Sirius, has been talking to Steve Jobs prior to the "All Things Digital conference". Steve wanted to ensure "Apple was doing the right thing".
Does Dell see bad-mouthing as good advertising?
Clearly you've never seen The Daily Prophet.

I agree. I always have to catch myself from thinking a computer is not more than just a tool. It's just so hard to do with Mac OS X.

If you want to see value, don't upgrade: switch ;)

I could envisage watching rocketboom or any other short newscast on a small screen. But that about sums it up.

In keeping with the spirit of this analogy, the RIIA would be the ones pressing to rein (in the) deer.

damn, the oblique sun keeps me from proofreading my posts correctly ;)

Many suncreams state that they should be applied 1 hour before going into the sun, in order to get maximum protection.

Looks as if we will continue to need to use 3G iPod-Linux for recording audio at anything higher than 8kHz
