I think you missed the point entirely. It's not that we whine about it being unfair exactly, it's that we like the game.
I also have a good job dickus. I also work 50, 60 hours a week, dickus. And I also can't play the game all the much. But guess what? I still work at getting items and improving my character with what ever time I can afford. If someone offered me an item for some real life cash I'd tell him to stick it, because -- oh oh here's a freaking reality dose for you buddy!! -- it's NOT ABOUT HAVING THE ITEMS, it's about GETTING THEM. It's about PLAYING the GAME, not WINNING it. Life's a JOURNEY, not a DESTINATION... to shamefully rip off a quote.
People like you take away a bit of the fun in the game, and THAT'S why we're pissed. Because cheaters suck. Period. And yes, I consider something that violates the tos cheating.
I don't even understand your mentality on this: Do you like weilding a big stick? Or you do you like getting the big stick and then weilding it? That sounds like a compensation issue to me bro.
Is it a big deal if you're only lvl 25 with crappy armor? Who cares! The point is whether or not you're having fun!
Hell, I roll new toons all the time because I have more fun at lower lvls, with no cash and crappy armor/weapons/spells.
The parent is correct, but I fear it might be an oversimplification.
People on./ are mostly techs, and it's difficult for a tech to think like a user. Here's the scoop people... most users DON'T KNOW there's a difference between an OS and hardware!!!11145
These are the people that call a computer a "cpu". They see the whole thing as a package. When they're shipped a computer already running Windows, they think of the whole thing as they see it, and don't understand that the same hardware could run something else.
It's also a simple matter of familiarity. Mac does an "ok" job of advertising, so some "users" are on macs, but everyone is familiar with windows, so all the users will use it. Simple as that.
Linux doesn't really have advertising at all. Hence it's still only known to us geeks.
And might I point out that if we could mod actual stories, this one should be -5 Troll??? If I posted that as a comment I'd be modded down so fast my email client wouldn't be able to filter out the slashdot emails.
I've never really understood the take these people have on things like this.
Columbine happened because of violent video games? What? Kids become disassociated from reality because they come to believe that video games represent reality? What? It's the government's job to control media? What?
Most of the kids I've had interaction with, or have been able to listen to comments from believe that video games represent things we can NOT do in life, and therefore make a great escape.
Why is there no outrage AGAINST the people who lobby against the freedoms we enjoy in our media?
"The sanctions compel the world's largest software maker to introduce a stripped-down version of its computer operating system without its Windows Media Player music and video software."
Right! Make them take out the music and video so people stuck at work can't enjoy themselves even a little teeny bit! That'll show Microsoft who's boss!
To Quote Artie from Howard Stern: WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA My WoW is DOWN! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
Grow up.
All major services that heavily dependant on technology go down, and YES IT IS TO BE EXPECTED.
*Internet Services like Cable and DSL
*TV Cable
*Online services like WoW, SWG, etc.
* The list goes ON and ON
All of these are difficult to implement and difficult to maintain. You pay for all of em in one way or another and if you really think just because you're paying for a service you are exempt from the trials and tribulations of the technologies the services depend on you are either really idealistic, really nieve, or really really stupid.
Get with reality, and deal with the fact that the internet and things that run on it are NOT perfect.
COH had nothing in the game! It was bare bones. Kill something.. wasn't that fun? Now go kill more. Quests? Content? Naw we don't need that!
If you take a simple web page that has very little dynamic content, and match the speed up against one that pulls tons of info from a DB, well DUH? Which one do you think will perform better?
WoW is FULL of content. There are so many easter eggs that I spend 1/2 the time playing it saying "Oh.. never noticed that before! That's cool!"
I work with someone that beta tested and we were talking about the lack of server to server transferability.
Apparently, there is no way, even behind the scenes at Blizzard, to transfer anything, meaing items, coin, characters, guilds.. etc, from one server to another.
My co-worker also said that they replied to his request to transfer his character by saying they are working on the functionality to be able to do this... so perhaps we will see this in the near future.../pray
Back then I thought in a similar fashion. Perrot would have done wonders for our country's financial situation..
but as I grew a little older I had a large realization: He would be HELL to live with. Think about the loss of personal freedoms you endure at a corporate job: Computer Lockdowns, no music, reserved personal expression, having your activity monitored..
Sure, he would have done wonders for our economy and national debt., etc... but I wonder how bad (and I believe it would be very bad) it would be to live under his thumb.

I completely disagree.
Although I see your point about being civilized and peaceful, and of course I sympathize with your work and living situation, I think we need more rage in this country.
To many complacent people sit at home and watch CNN thinking to themselves that it's all just a t.v. show.. Wake Up People! Get off your Soma pills and pay attention to what's going on!
The more people that are angry, the more I see that people are actually paying attention to the world.
The only way to change things is to do something. Of course protesting isn't exactly addressing congress, but in a way it is; by getting your views out into the public.
Besides, at least their displaying their anger is a somewhat productive mannor.. They aren't looting are they? Just an angy, yet peaceful protest?
Screaming at Bush's limo as it passes by is incredibly theraputic;)
I work for a company setting up a large voip network, and I must say the technology/software is really coming along.
Some of the features that asterisk can do is amazing.
And it's all open source to boot! All you need to do is pay for hardware (servers, and voip cards) and a good coffee machine to keep you awake during all the phone calls you eves drop on using ZapBarge;)
It's bad when you start putting up walls in a small square so the little theme park fans can't walk anywhere and stick one in.
Then you sit there with their profile up to watch them get more pissed off, and more pissed off
and imagine it's your boss...
Then you put in a taco stand and tell them to shut up.
No bathroom damn it! Only tacos! Be good or I'll drop you in the lake!
Well now that I've been fully flamed by all the "java lovers" and even modded down to troll for simply stating an opinion, I'll take a minute to bathe in the love of the slashdot community.
Take the troll and shove it up your ass modders. I don't see any reason to mod it such, and modding me down just becuase my opinion is different than yours and because I'm willing to get flamed to state an opinion that doesn't lift your beloved java on my shoulders shows a huge lack of maturity.
As for the other responses.. Hey.. thanks. I knew I was gonna get it, but at least it was well articulated and interesting to read.
Does anyone that knows more than just java as a programming language actually like it? I know a few lanauges, scripting and programming, and was introduced inevitably to java back in 2002 or so.
I hated it right from the get-go.
The total operating system independence is the only thing that's cool about this language in my opinion.
The language itself is clunky and overly complicated, not to mention annoying, and the vm is a total resource hog. Everything is slow, and well.. enough of that...
After reading this article, I think I actually loathe it now.
Now if you excuse me, I'm going to go clean out all the hate mail I'm getting from the "I've been eating, sleeping and happily married to java.. exuse me? C? C++? Perl? What the heck are those?" people...
From my certification days, I believe the following is true:

Let's re-route all of our chinese spam to those guys.
I switched from Helix & RH9 to FC2 and recently upgraded to FC3...
I've gotta say, I love FC3.
Sleek interfaces with a well refined system. It may have something to do with having a 2.8g processor and 512 ram, but my system is pretty damn fast.
The new kernel rocks, the whole system works well, and well, I like it!
We run slackware on my servers at work, and after dealing with the lack of tools and total lack of package management in slackware (pkgtool sucks & rpm on slackware coredumps every time) I'll take sorting through package dependencies (up2date baby! Does all the work for ya!) and having to many packges on my system over never being able to just install a quick package here and there and hunting down program dependencies, compiling and installing those libraries and THEN the software I need all the while hunting down the utils I need to install the software I need any day.
I may be biased, but I find it annoying to have a "stripped down" distro like slackware.
It's only good for the "old school" people who like to do every last thing on a command line by hand. It's time consuming and annoying IMO.
I also haven't noticed any performance enhancements from running a stripped down distro.
If you take the time to learn how RH and FC work, you can get them running just as good or better than slackware.
People like you should be shot.

"dozens of other infractions"
One man's infraction is another man's "artistic freedom".
If we are always forced to abide by strict rules in art, how would we progress?
I've never really understood the take these people have on things like this.

Lol.
Are you serious?
"Content" is "stuff" in the game, not just quest text.
The Action House is "content".
The cute little panda pets are "Content".
When a certain NPC does a unique action it's "content".
etc. etc.
Ok I don't get all this /crying!!

Uh oh!
You can't evil kill an Error Monster with a +6 sword! Run!
Ok dude.
That's simple ignorance.
It takes more than money and a wish to fix problems. It takes time and work, as it has been said in about 300 posts before mine.
Guess what guy? Development takes time! And guess what else? The more developers you have, the harder it is to work on one central project!
Stop crying and think before you bitch about something.
Hardly a good comparison...

It's actually because the FBI stole a bunch of copyright protected code from the CIA to build it and now the CIA is pissed.
I'll be front-seat for the law suit!
Next Case: CIA VS. FBI

Well it sucks this happened, but it was worse when G4 bought tech-tv in the first place. It's pretty much sucked since then.
X-Play is staying on the air though right?
Oh what a life without Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb's hilarious, yet brutal reviews.
Perhaps someone will start a new Tech-TV and us geeks will have a new home on TV.
